Gunshots struck a bulletproof window at the Shell Oakes Field gas station in a recent attempted robbery.

Four bullets struck the bulletproof glass at the Shell Oakes Field gas station, as robbers attempted to take the life of a cashier at the 24 hour store. Robbers in their fail attempt to gain access into the cashier’s cage opened fired then fled the scene.

Police are said to be puzzled at the spike in the number of arm robberies that has occurred across the country particularly on New Providence. Police on yesterday sounded a warning to the general public to take note of their immediate surroundings.

Police are still questioning persons on the island of Eleuthera, where over the weekend, 65 year old Sylvia Cates was brutally murdered and found in the bedroom of her home in the Rock Sound settlement. Ms. Cates’ home was ransacked in what was a clear robbery.

Family members noted that Mrs. Cates was a pillar in the community and a faithful and committed member of the Methodist Church. Sadness and regret of her death have come for all quarters around the country as her death has pushed the homicide count in the Bahamas to 59.
