It is with great sadness and regret that we once again witness the iron hand of the Ingraham Government, with its callous disregard for Bahamians and dispassionate attitude toward the weak. Ingraham has decided to flatten ZNS by dismissing almost 100 Bahamians leaving them abandoned and on the growing unemployment lines all over in this country.

The employees at ZNS deserve every opportunity possible to be heard. Clearly no government should be letting go workers at this time, especially in these times of uncertainty. It is the duty of a government to be seen preserving and protecting jobs in our country.

After secretly planning the dismissal of scores of workers at the Corporation, the mean-spirited Government of Hubert Ingraham attempts to dismiss workers with a less attractive package than expected – suggesting there is no money.

The Ingraham government has refused to listen to the people in their distress and struggle to meet mortgages, utilities, school fees and everyday demands. Instead they are fast tracking their efforts to dismiss the staff in these tough economic times.

While this same government is set to dismiss Bahamians, they were quick to find more than $26 million of taxpayers’ money to construct a new port facility at Arawak Cay and fatten the coffers of 19 FNM benefactors to build this facility. Though it is said that the Bahamian people are partners in truth and fact it is a privately driven project and we the Bahamian people don’t know who are our partners as they hide behind corporate vehicles. We yet await the answer as to who those 19 benefactors are.

The Ingraham Government is quick to suggest it has no money as it presses forward to let workers go at ZNS, but they were quick to find $120 million to build roads and disrupt local businesses on Blue Hill Road.

They were swift to borrow almost $60 million to build the new road to ‘no where’ from the airport and at the same time secure 200 work permits to employ Chinese construction workers in that exercise.

It is shameful to note how for months this same stubborn FNM administration ignored nurses, retired police officers and canceled the Student Loan Programme, dashing the hopes of hundreds of young people the right to decent affordable education. They masqueraded across the country with a wicked policy of STOP, REVIEW AND CANCEL; hurting Bahamians in the process.

The Ingraham Government should exercise restraint in its decisions at ZNS. The workers at the Corporation deserve the chance to be heard. They deserve better. They are Bahamians.

  • Larry, You are a heartless SOB, you need to grow up. The Bahamian people are hurting and the only thing you are concern about is whether the PLP pay ZNS. that’s not the reason they are being laid off,(while i sympathize with them i don’t feel sorry) during the 2007 election campaign trail Mr. Hurbert Ingraham told the bahamian people that “WHEN I BECOME PRIME MINISTER I WILL DOWNSIZED THE CIVIL SERVANTS” they still support him all because of greed and self gratification.

  • LOL
    You people are pathetic!
    LOL
So am guessing the PLP hasn’t paid its bill to ZNS.
    LOL
And I owe nobody, to whomever that is. Not everybody is irresponsible like the PLP and don’t pay their bills. LOL

    • media

BRAVE IS SUPPORTING BAHAMIANS! Ingraham is supporting the Chinese.

      BP

    • media

Besides ZNS is closing down so that is not necessary. The BIG question is, when will Ingraham PAY THE WORKERS!

      bp

  • OK, then.
Hubert is All evil and loves the Chinese
And Phillip Davis is all good and fights for Bahamians.
    That Being Said.
Did the PLP pay its bill(s) to ZNS??
Its a simple yes or no question.
Why can’t I get an answer.
Just for the record I don’t necessarily believe that just because the PLP may have not settled their bill with ZNS, they can’t state their opinion on a matter.
But the fact that the PLP supporters, here refuse to answer my question strikes me that they think its a bit hypocritical.
    Just saying.

    • That’s a question you should ask the A/R department of ZNS. So tell me a bill(s) not being paid by the PLP (if this is the case) is the reason these people were laid off and according to them given unfair packages?

    • With all respect why are you all so concern if the PLP payed their debit to ZNS EVERY BODY AT THIS POINT OWE SOME ONE INCLUDING YOURSELF, SO BE QUIET CAUSE THE PLP IS COMING TO SAVE THE POOR AND DOWN CAST IN THIS SOCIETY.

      • media

What is interesting in all this is this. The FNM also has a DEBT with ZNS, but you hear not a DAMN WORD about it.

        INTERESTING…

        BP

  • with thee exception of one or two of them dey are all jokers…….selfish money gubblers.

  • GIVE THOSE PEOPLE THE SAME PKG THAT WAS GIVEN TO THE BTC FOLKS. AFTERALL THEY NEED A RELIEF FROM ALL THE POLITICAL STRANGLES AND ABUSE FROM SPITEFUL PLP & FNM POLITICIANS…….NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH PARTY…….

  • Today, while the governnment and people of Chile are lifting their citizens from a 2,300 pit.
The government of The Bahamas, led by Hubert Ingraham is making plans t throw it’s citizens in a pit of despair and uncertainty.

Today, while the government of The Bahamas is carefully considering the engagement of a big nummber of Chinese foreign workers, they the government, is carelessy pursuing to FIRE almost one hundred (100) of it’s own citizens.

thats one hundred homes with an average household of about four or five.

there is no question about the far reaching consequences of such a move at this time.

  • I don’t understand what else needs to be said. My understanding is that the Government has decided to separate 100 persons, because the positions haven’t been needed for some time. So, to go above and beyond, they offered additional “sweeteners” to the existing labour law validated packages. My heart goes out to everyone who is without work or hurting, due to this global economic disaster, but these people are clearly not being victimized. What am I missing?

  • Larry,

Your question is valid. Also, has the various government departments paid their many, huge outstanding bills – utilities come to mind, which the we are covering.

  • THE PM AND TOMMY DONT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO THEY LETTIN GO PAY WHAT BILL AND ALL THESE PEOPLE HURTIN 2012 GET READY

  • LARRY & CHARLES, ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS? WHERE DO YOU GUYS LIVE? DO YOU NOT SEE THE SAD PREDICAMENT SO MANY OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTER ARE IN. MANY WITHOUT THE BASIC NECESSITIES OF LIFE. NO FOOD, NO LIGHT, NO HOPE, AND NOW NO JOBS. SUICIDE RATE UP, HOMICIDE RATE UP, ROBBERY AND RAPE RATE UP. THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO BRING UP OLD INSIGNIFICANT STORIES. MA BRUDDERS, PLEASE DON’T BE SO SHALLOW. INSTEAD LOOK AT THE HUMANITARIAN SIDE OF THE ISSUES. I AM SURE SOMEONE SOMEWHERE IN YOUR FAMILY ARE AFFECTED BY THE STATE OF OUR ECONOMY, EVEN IF YOU GUYS AREN’T.
THE FNMS OBVIOUSLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE BAHAMIAN POPULACE. CHINESE MAYBE, BUT CERTAINLY NOT BAHAMIANS.
“A MATTER OF TRUST” DON’T MAKE ME CUSS, THE FNMS DON’T CARE ABOUT US
“BE BRAVE”, BE PLP, AND SAVED OUR COUNTRY.

    • Yes I am serious.
I just want an answer to my question. Yes or No.
You can assume whatever you want from the answer,
And to media, the truth, can never be a distraction!

      • media

Brave is fighting for Bahamians, Hubert is fighting for CHINESE…GO FIGURE!
