FNM: Opposition Cant Take the Heat in the House

With their usual sense of entitlement and unable to get their own way, the PLP continues to pull stunts rather than act like a responsible official Opposition.

Hot on the heels of their rowdy and unruly demonstration downtown to try and prevent the creation of a new partnership to transform BTC, the PLP last evening walked out of the House of Assembly and on their democratic responsibilities.

This is not the first and probably will not be the last time that the Opposition walks out on the people’s business. Their flagrant disregard for the institution and practices of the House was seen as they looked on as a mob threatened to overrun the House last week.

Last night, they yet again abandoned their posts during the important Midyear Budget Review designed to instil greater transparency and accountability of government finances.

Of course, the PLP likes to have it both ways. They want to act in a reckless manner, yet complain when they are criticized for their often undemocratic and irresponsible behaviour. They again criticized the midyear review of public finances as a waste of time then, as they did last year, used up plenty of time trying to defend their abysmal and miserable record in office from 2002 to 2007.

Stunned by their failure to convince Bahamians on the matter of BTC, and on the defence because of how much the FNM has achieved in four years, the Opposition is unable to take the heat in the House. So, instead of doing the people’s business, they have placed their own political needs above that of the nation.

Having abandoned most of their promises and responsibilities when last in office, the PLP, now in Opposition, continues to act in that same manner. Last night’s walk out from the House is only the last example of such sad behaviour by those who are unfit to govern and incapable of providing the country with decisive and steady leadership.

  • why someone don’t trow some doo doo in the house speaker face. he aint worth s..t!!

    • @Wizzard…… you are keeping too much company with Lady P. Your post says everything about you… and it is not a good commentary. Like I said to LADY P, ELEVATE THE DEBATE!

  • Way to go Lady Russell; shame the damn fool.

  • Those FNM bastards wouldn’t know how an official opposition should act if it is spelt out on a poster board 40 feet wide. Ingraham ended the debate without allowing the opposition leader and cat island to speak. Ingraham is the one who operates without decorum so why should the opposition subject themselves to his BULLSHIT? Let him continue to talk to the empty chairs.

  • What kind of lies are the FNM telling now? It was their leader who ended the debate, summarily, before several MPs could speak, including one of their frontbench ministers, Loretta Butler Turner. Less people forget she is the Minister for Social Welfare and if nothing else,it would have been good to hear how the government intends to deal with the ever growing poor and marinalised. The PLP was right to walk out because of the rude behaviour of the PM. The question is who could not stand the heat? It sounds as if Ingraham had heard enough. But in doing so he showed that he is a dictator because he prevented the Speaker for calling for a voice vote on ending the debate. GET IT RIGHT!AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE READING.

  • Great article, BP. Nice to see a balanced reporting process.

    • @ Grouper

You need to lay off the Donkey Soup lunch special! I am embarassed for you.

      • Why is it that this woman who calls herself a “Lady” resort to calling people names and making them out to be zombies or robots of Mr. Ingraham just because they have a different view from her? Why can’t she make intelligent responses on the issue and not attack the person?

        • @ bahamianrealist

Just found out that you had inserted this sneaky and very insulting post.

I would suggest that you humour me and refer to me as a Lady, as well, so that I would be compelled to respond to your polite utterences.

Otherwise, I’ll be forced to take off my lady-like, high-heeled shoes and beat your hatband in with my 26 soldiers of the alphabet!

          A word to the wise….

          • @ Phillippa….. You are not getting it! ELEVATE THE DEBATE and watch how others will follow your lead. Stop the name calling and the bashing…serves no purpose and actually calls your mental health into question. Speak like a lady O.K.

          • Phillippa, I takie it you are using metaphors but even those are of violence and hate. Why are you so bitter? I don’t comment on your posts to have you respond to me just for you to do some introspection and to input some balance, a characteristic which you seem to lack.

  • WOW!!! Has the “Evil Ingraham Government” hacked into the BP website a posted this story? LOL. This is definitely not the spin that BP has been putting on the so called “reporting the news”. And as with Pavlov’s dogs, this story already has triggered one person hurling acusations at BP of being under some hypnotic spell by Mr. Ingraham. 6 and 1/2 dozen of the other or however that saying goes.

  • Yes you’re correct if you’re looking at the proceedings of Parliament, and the FNM’S accomplishments through a PERISCOPE,WHICH would put you at a very bad VANTAGE POINT,and BENEATH the DEPTS of the OCEAN.QUIT TELLING LIES,YOU KNOW THE BTC DEMONSTRATION WAS NOT PLP PROPELLED,AND IT DID MAKE AN IMPACT.IN THE FUTURE FIND A MORE RELIABLE SOURCE,AND RESEARCH YOUR INFORMATION,BEFORE PUTTING IT OUT THERE IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN.FINALLY YOU’RE SPENDING TO MUCH TIME AT PHAROAH’S FEET.
