WHO ARE THE Bahamian Lawyers for Sandals?

Bahamas Press is deeply concerned with the workings down at Sandals. We have been following some things lately and what we cannot take here is the fact that Sandals have ‘foreignized’ its workforce and have fired [TERMINATED] SCORES OF BAHAMIANS!

The intent we believe was an exercise its UNION BUSTING TACTICS, and we got not a damn word from the WUTLESS Minister for Labour or the FNM. Bahamians FIRED FOREIGNERS HIRED! We believe it was all done with the assistance of a LAW OFFICE, which is headed by a Member of Parliament! Now, we ain’t going there today, by that lawyer and that LAWFIRM SHOULD HANG THEY DAMN HEAD DOWN IN SHAME!!!

BahamasUncensored.Com wrote this weekend: The Sandals Hotel in Exuma continues to have problems with its employee relations.  The hotel is reportedly paying under market wages and is bringing in Jamaicans for jobs that Bahamians can do.  Further, it appears that there is a cultural clash with the Bahamians on the job site being abused verbally by the Jamaicans.  Look for problems on that site in Exuma during the week.

We at BP have arrested this unfolding crisis before and what we got was a lackluster response, and so now we will go for the jugular. We ask:

  • • Who are the Lawyers/Lawfirm is/are the local representatives for the company Sandals Royal Bahamian?
  • • Is it true Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham has breakfast at Sandals EVERY SUNDAY MORNING, while all this AXING OF BAHAMIANS CONTINUES DAILY?
  • • Why has the union representing Sandals workers allowed this action to continue?
Bahamas Press warns that POLITICIAN representing Sandals to speak up for Bahamians now and stop THE BLOODBATH AT THE HOTEL! How could you seek to represent Bahamians and at the same time let the DAMN FOREIGNERS TAKE DEY JOB? YOU CRAZY EH?
Bahamas Press is set to EXPOSE A BIGTIME MP! Let this serve as your first warning from BP!

  • As an employee at SEB I can tell you now, these are the things that you can do (and are being done)to get yourself fired:
    1. Drink the people’s rum on the job.
    2. Leave work early without telling anybody when its busy, and then still expect to get paid
    3. Hide food/eat it in the middle of your shift from the restaurants
    4. Mash up the golfcarts when you not supposed to be driving one to begin with
    5. Tell people “That drinks not available at this bar. Walk down there” or “I have to work early tomorrow so I’m closing the bar now”
    6. Stand in the corner of a restaurant talking to the other waitresses while people haven’t got their drink orders yet and are hungry
    7. Steal Ipads/Phones/money out the rooms
    8. Argue with your manager when they write you up for NOT DOING YOUR JOB
    9. Constantly show up late for work, call in sick or don’t come at all!

There’s so many more I don’t need to go on! Sandals isn’t fireing Bahamians and replacing them with nobody Jamaicans. They’re firing useless staff who would get fired from ANYWHERE and replacing them with proven excellent employees from other resorts.

  • that’s a tru say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. yall turn back in 2007 and let that pit bull f*** this country right up crime , unemployment, haitians and jamaician taking over. if yall love it let it kill ya.

    • In yesterday’s Nassau Guardian’s lead story didn’t Ingraham tell Babak that one of the conditions to him getting his work permit was to treat Bahamians fairly? Why doesn’t this same condition apply to Sandals and the more than 100 work permits it gets in this country?

They treat Bahamians poorly but can get all the work permit they want.

      only in The Bahamas.

Why does the Bahamian government discourage Bahamian ownership? Anyone can come here and just take over, these people don’t have our best interest in mind. So now China & Jamaica feeding off of us and the Bahamian people starving.

    • Come on man _ If Bahamians got the money to buy, build or own major resorts they have had ample time to do it. Maybe the Government just trying to support the economy and allowing legitimate business to come to the Bahamas so we Bahamians can have jobs. Bahamians hiring Bahamians, Government hiring Bahamians have shown that they can’t hire us all – so ease up on the foreigners coming here to invest in this country. Until I see some more Bahamians investing serious dollars into this economy – mumms is the word. We talk a good talk but I can’t bank my future on that.

  • youll talking bout that place whos real name is SLAVE ALL NIGGAS DAILY AT LOW SALARY }THEY SHOULDA NEVER BIN GIVEN THE OPERTUNITY TO PURCHASE SOMETHING AS GRAND AS THAT PROPERTY IN EXUMA DEY DON,T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT , COME IN HERE TALKING BOUT ALL BUTLER RESORT NOW HALF OF THE JAMAICANS BUTLERS DOING CONCEIGE SERVICES AND DEY DONT KNOW A GOD DAM TING BOUT EXUMA SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON ! • yes all in exuma better vote themo.o.u.t

  • Michael J.Brown

It should be remembered that the FNM set the standards for giving away Bahamian hotel assets and endangering Bahamian jobs way back in their first term. It started with the Balmoral Beach hotel and other assets owned by the Bahamian people through the Hotel Corporation. In this case and that of the other Bahamian owned cable beach property, these were sold for an average of $17,000. per room far below their values.

    • Mr. Brown do you really know the half of it when it comes to the Bahamas Hotel Corp? Why does it have to be a problem of the FNM Government? Do your homework and see what Government really dogs the BHC. Too often we say the Government is “selling” off the Bahamas when the reality is that history shows us that it is we Bahamians who have dug ourselves into a hole and need to reach out for foreign intervention to get out. WHY is that you say?

Well, first of all we don’t trust one another and my belief is that the “political engine” has created such a big divide amongst us Bahamians. I could get deep here but I won’t cause I don’t preach. But you only scratch the surface with all the political gibberish. We need change – hell we need to forget politics and think morality. Is that too much to ask?

If this Government spend $100 today and the next Government spend $200 tomorrow – guess what we ga talk about it. We ain’t talking about nothing now but we ga find something to complain about. How many times you hear us brag about how the Government didn’t fire half the payroll so they could really balance the budget? Which one you want – a fully balanced budget or a highly unemployed group of citizens? You see the dilemma? That dilemma is nothing new either cause every Government try their plan and all fall short. No plan is picture perfect cause the populace is not perfect!

      GET REAL BAHAMAS
      That’s all I saying – get real…

  • Open you own dyam hotels! Then you will understand what the industry is up against.

The lawyer for 4 seasons was a Mrs. Bowe-McKay, I am told. I do not know if she represents Sandals, but I would not be surprised. In any event, she represents the interests of her Client, not you wutlesss Bahamians who hand light, refuse to work 8 hrs, and lack skills, aptitude, and have bad attitudes…

    • media

Now Now Tribune spokesperson Thomas Finley, we are not interested in the foreign Lawyer at Sandals, WE ASKED who is the Bahamian lawfirm or lawyers representing them. THAT’s the question.

Ya think you could answer that?
      BP

  • This is and continues to happen not just there but at every development – Nassau, Exuma, Abaco….

Until we stop selling ourselves short, selling ourselves out because we think we’re getting in good with the foreigner, and until we change policies that make no sense then nothing will ever change. Which expat will train and replace himself with a Bahamian when we treat them like kings and queens? Bahamians will always be unqualified and incompetent in their eyes. We need to wake up and unify.

  • I’m not knocking my people, but if these same issues continue to come up year after year, then perhaps we should examine ourselves. I agree we need to enforce our labour laws, which still need to be reviewed and new legislation formed. I would encourage all Bahamians to get yourselves qualified, if not college or university or some skill you might be good at. Bahamians have become very lazy and yet we complain about the foreigners. When I look around, the only people I see sweating out there doing well paying jobs are the foreigners. Notice how they work as a team, Jamaicans, Hatiens and now the Asians, pooling all of their resources together. The Government cannot defend you if you have nothing to offer. I don’t see any Jamaicans, Hatiens, or Asians hanging under the tree drinking beer at 12 noon just because you cannot find a job. Sorry I know this sounds harsh, and the property in Exuma has obviously taken advantage of us, but seriously what have you to offer in terms of skills and abilities?
If the PLP want to win this next election they will win it on job creation and if they should succeed in creating those much needed jobs, are you ready and are you willing?

    • SIMONE YOU ARE A SELL OUT BAHAMIANS ARE THE HARDEST AND SMARTEST WORKERS OF THE CARIBBEAN CHECK AGAIN IT IS ALL ABOUT CHEEP LABOUR I WORK IN THE HOTEL ONCE I SAW AN EXPAT WHO CAN DO THE JOB PEOPLE COME SAYING THEY ARE EVERYTHING THEY AINT

  • I know it’s a stupid question but why are work permits being issued to these foreigners….

    • You know BP I am glad you brought this up – because as SICK OF FOREIGNERS said this is not new news. From the outside looking in I have questions of my own…

Could it be that Sandals is replacing Bahamians with Jamaicans because they represent the brand in the way that Sandals wants to attract more “tourist” ? Stay with me now – before you all get all fired up.

I remember when several of my family members worked on PI and earned really good money back in the day. Just the tips alone paid for some of my cousins private school education and middle-class life style. My family members did very well because they had guest that would look forward to seeing them everytime they came to the Bahamas…. You know why? First of all they took pride in how the represented the BAHAMAS – a premiere vacation destination. Now-a-days big money travelers are opting for other islands in the region. They can’t put up with the brazen attitudes you get from our “hospitality” sectors. This is the reality folks – you can argue with it but fact of the matter is we will run them out of here or we will take them down with us if we don’t change our ways…..

Today people don’t take pride that they can “host” vacationers – they seem them as a bother, and really they only want to see how they can pump money out of them and send them on their way. That is not the way to do business. To keep our economy budding we want great referals and repeat customers.

      • THEY ARE NOT BAHAMIANS FUNKY NASSAU TALKING BOUT

  • Yo yo yo what crackin’ up in here!

  • This is not NEW NEWS! This has been going on for years. I worked for Sandals for 13years since its inception and the sole reason behind my resignation was due to the obvious and steady foreign takeover of the hotel and the condescending and bullying treatment that was dished out by these Jamaicans!!! I couldn’t take it any more…so I left!! I could right a book about my experiences and its about time THEY’RE EXPOSED during their 15 year ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION!! 15 YEARS OF HOSTILE TAKEOVER!! They need to rename the Hotel Sandals Royal Jamaican, because before you know it, there wont be any Bahamians left!!! Now That’s my money in the PIGGY BANK!!!

WE ask SICK one pointed question; WHO ARE THE BAHAMIANS LAWYERS representing Sandals? WHO IS THAT MP with that FAT FAT HOTEL ACCOUNT PROCESSING THESE PAPERS?

      YOU WHISTLE WE GA POINT!

      STANDBY!

      BP

    • Sick of foreigners, I know just what you are talking about. Why is it that other nationalities could come here and speak to Bahamians in a civilized manner and work together. But the Jamaicans at Sandals, and I have many Jamaican friends, but these ones at Sandals treat the Bahamian workers like dogs.

When Sandals Royal Bahamian brought in its new Jamaican GM a few months ago, the Jamaicans threw a party and was telling the Bahamians – it aint long now! While let me tell you all something. This country is called THE BAHAMAS. Many of us are educated, smart, skilled and trained and it is uncalled for to be rude to Bahamians in our face.

My daughter works at Sandals and she said Sandals treats all Bahamians like slaves.I listened to the Minister of Tourism praising Sandals and I laughed like crazy because obviously he and the FNM are out of touch. Sandals is the worst hotel in The Bahamas when it comes to treat staff. To hear the minister with that rubbish made me weak in my stomach.

My son works at Atlantis and he raves about how good Atlantis treats its employees and provide a variety of training for employees. My daughter has worked at Sandals for 5 years and had never attended ONE TRAINING MINISTER VANDERPOOL_WALLACE. So in future ask Sandals to write you an accurate account of what it does.

Sandals track record is poor compared to other hotels. Atlantis donated millions of dollars to charitable causes, what amount has Sandals donated in its 15 years of being in The Bahamas?

From what my daughter said Sandals begs it guests for money while at the resort promoting the Bahamas as poor and needy and this money is then used to to fund charitable causes in Jamaica and St. Lucia.

Sandals builds schools, hospitals and large projects in Jamaica, but here they pollute our waters and mistreat our citizens. What a price to pay for investment!

      SHAME ON YOU SANDALS.

  • Bahamians have no say they have taken over from the Four Seasons who left this country and did not pay Bahamians upon termination and no use going to the Labour Board in Exuma because that ugly big eye Labour employee who had all his apartments rented to the hotel is in bed with them for rent for his units. Sandals is no different from Four Seasons and the government did nothing then and will do nothing now. Only Almighty God could help the Bahamians now.

    • For God sake Bahamians wake up. This situation will only change if our thought process changes. We keep bringing back the same persons who are responsible for making sure that the countries citizens are placed ahead of any other foreign entity when it comes to jobs or other areas, yet we keep bringing them back. It’s time for the Castro type of government to change. It has never been a fair ground in this country with the PLP or FNM as government, starts off great on both sides and ends in despire. It’s now time to try something different.
