John Pinder

Nassau, Bahamas — The count went late into the night, but as the ballots were counted, John Pinder, was returned to the presidency of the Bahamas Public Service Union.

Just after Pinder’s last election BPSU has lost more then 1,000 members, and prior to this election the organization lost branches of union members in both Customs and Immigration. The weaker financial position of the Union under Pinder’s watch was a recipe for a vote out of office. It didn’t happen.

So what caused the return of Pinder? Well the fact is his strongest opponent was a hard-line FNM, who we know to be a close friend of the PM. What was even more interesting is this, that team seeking the control of the Union, was being bankrolled by the political directors of the FNM Government; rolling out sleek campaign ads on TV, radio and in print. Their cool new look however was not enough to deliver a victory last night.

With no other strong contender in the race we at Bahamas Press quickly settled for the lesser of two evils and watch the battle from the sidelines.

John Pinder is back in the chair, and so be it!

  • WOW!
I can’t believe that Pinder is getting help by both parties to run a dirty smear campaign to win this election.
Obviously both parties feel comfortable working with a puppet like the one that appears to have emerged victorious in this election.
The truth is the members came out in droves wearing thier purple in support of UTT.
Not everyone is prepared to believe a lie no matter which media house is prepared to be irresponsible in thier reporting of untruths.
The truth will emerge and the voters true wishes will emerge. The BPSU will once again become a stong force and any Govt. serving our people will know that they must answer to our members.

  • Now Mr.Pinder you can look into the corruption in the Court Reporters Unit of the judiciary department. Retiree given extension to hire reporters as contract workers, why was she given this contract. Who actually is getting the money, why didnt the judiciary just hire these reporters as contract workers. Please Mr. Pinder, help us at CRU.

  • GET IT RIGHT NOW MR.PINDER, U WON THE BATTLE AGAIN NOW TRY TO WIN THIS WAR..1ST MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR THE CIVIL SERVANTS WITH A REASONABLE PRICE BECAUSE THE UNION INSURANCE IS SO EXPENSIVE, WE NEED A GROUP RATE. 2ND, PROMOTIONS/INCREASE, 3RD, WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WORK IN PROPER OFFICE WITH AIR CONDITIONS THAT ACTUALLY WORK.

  • I read so much abuse of the FNM and Mr. John Pinder from BP I could not believe it.

BP will continue to make the PLP look like they are winning the upcoming elections, but we Bahamians in general will not be fool. John Pinder’s return now seeks to tell the PLP, Bahamians have it bad but we do not want it worst. Not under a party that will be led by Perry Christie and his PLP.

  • Congrats to Mr. Pinder…clearly that ULTT team or whoever they were was FNM motivated. As soon as I saw old boy, I KNEW it would’ve been rigged. Mr. Pinder…keep fighting for the little man! You the best

  • IWW

BP yall jokey now. LOL. It’s just a sign of things to come. This is the same way the FNM will be returned o power in 2012. Wonder what excuse you will come up with then? I shall wait and see.

  • BP, as you stated, 2 branches of this union has already defected so a precedent has been set which is, if the union and its leader wont look out for us, we will leave.

What the Customs officers proved was that they dont need BPSU. You know other branches under the BPSU has taken note and will thus demand more in terms of service and representation from the BPSU leadership.

I believe that we are witnessing the slow disintegration of the BPSU. The ball has already started rolling.
