Look what Politics is about to do to the University of the Bahamas!

UB Charter Day, November 10, 2016 – From left: UB Board of Trustees Secretary Michael Stevenson, UB Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Earl Cash, UB President Dr. Rodney D. Smith, Minister of Education Science & Technology the Hon. Jerome Fitzgerald, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Urban Development the Hon. Philip Davis, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie, and Leader of the Official Opposition Free National Movement the Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis. (BIS Photo/Derek Smith)

Nassau – So University of The Bahamas President Dr. Rodney Smith said that the Grade Point Average was lowered in order to be granted a Government Scholarship in 2019.

Students will now only have to maintain a 2.0 GPA to get a paid scholarship. This means that the standards at UB are being sacrificed on the altar of political expediency!

Previously students had to maintain a 3.0 GPA to keep a Government Scholarship.

That’s a ridiculous statement!! I thought they wanted to have THE University of the Bahamas, not THE Kinder of the Bahamas!!! I thought they were trying to improve the study conditions of the Bahamas. They are only teaching these kids that mediocrity is the order of the day. HOW ARE THESE BAHAMIAN KIDS WILL BE EVER ABLE TO COMPETE WITH STUDENTS ABROAD?? Did you know the passing grade in that so called “University” is a 55 D-, meanwhile anywhere in the world universities have a 70 D- MINIMUM passing grade for Bachelors and 80 for Master and Doctorate? What do you want to have Full-time PH.D teaching these kids for? For a lousy 55? This is SO disappointing!!!!
