Acting Commissioner of Police, Elliston Greenslade and Superintendent Elbert Moss talk to the press during a press conference held at the Central Detective Unit on Thompson Blvd, Monday, December 21.

Nassau, Bahamas — The Royal Bahamas Police Force is taking a ‘zero tolerance’ stance against crime during the holiday season.

As a result, a new ‘enforcement’ team has been created with the intention of ‘implementing a sustained, vigorous, multipronged assault on all serious crimes.’

The team will be lead by Detective Leon Bethel, a ‘seasoned’ senior officer and he will be assisted by a group of highly trained officers of various ranks.

The announcement was made on Monday, December 21 during a press conference held at the Central Detective Unit on Thompson Boulevard.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Elliston Greenslade said the decision was made as a result of the crime challenges seen in New Providence, particularly during the past few weeks.

“I was able to meet this morning with the Officer in Charge of the CDU, the Officer in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), our Strike Force, Our Special Branch, our Criminal Intelligence Bureau and all of the specialist areas that have a distinct role to play in this crime fight.” He added that Chief Superintendent John Ferguson represented the ‘uniform’ branches.

“Having formed an appreciation of the issues that confront at this very moment, I have committed to giving all of the resources – both human and capital to the officers here so that they might execute their duties in a more efficient fashion beginning immediately,” said Greenslade.

Superintendent Elbert Moss said that the public is advised that ‘credible’ intelligence has been gathered that will drive the initiative.

“We wish to send the strongest possible message to the criminal underclass, that effective immediately, you will hear from and feel the full brunt of the assets of the Royal Bahamas Police Force as we move resolutely to reduce the amount of crimes involving guns, violence, loss of life and property and illegal drug activities.”
Supt Moss advised the public not to offer refuge to persons who may be breaking the law.

“As a warning, we wish to discourage those members of the public, including families and friends, who are likely to disrupt the course of justice, not to give safe haven or passage to persons that are involved in criminal activity or those that the Police may have interest in.”

The Police said included in the initiative will be more police presence and new vehicles on the streets.

  1. how can they close them when ingraham, aka frog face, is friends with flowers and has him over to dinner??

  2. While the press effort is good what is need more in the urban areas are policemen waliking the beat and interacting with the people they will get the intelligence from.Note book inspections the little things make a big difference.Interesting point Numbers is the biggest game in town and if the Commissioner with all of his computer skills can’t bust the houses because his political bosses are collecting there enevelops then what are you saying to the Bahamian people is nonsensical there must be know double standards.

    • My friend this is what Urban Renewal was created to address.I laughed the otrher day when Ella lewis and her cohrts in the various programs sought to give their version of how the program was operating without Police presence 24/7.The streets are getting bloody and no solution appears imminent to address thge problem. As far as the number houses are concerned we must thank God for them as they are keeping mamny employed and actually feeding desperate families. The Govt needs to bite the bullet and just legalise numbers officially. After all,all of the numbers premises have licences to operate web cafes and this is a loophole that exists to substantiate their existence.

Does this apply to the illegal migrant and co-horts?
They did not mention illegal migration as a crime, and the weeding out  all illegal migrants. To clear the land of the biggest segment of criminals, would be key to reducing crime… We in the Bahamas need to understand what is happening to us as a people is Ethnic Cleansing; from  invasive migrants, who flock our shores at will for years. Unchecked and supported by criminally minded Bahamians who for the love of money, sex, or any form of short term, short lived (vain gain) give away this Bahamas to criminals from overseas.  For today what we see is the manifestation of a breed of people non-understandable by the keenest of us  in any form of reason are allowed to dictate their rights to citizenship or else (there would be no peace) due to the two to one ratio, the illegals have over the Bahamian population.     (GET RID OF ALL THE ILLEGAL MIGRANTS #1 CRIME PROBLEM IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS)  then watch how we would be virtually crime free.  “IF WE CONTINUE ON THIS PATH WE WILL BECOME A FAILED STATE WITHIN TWO YEARS, IT IS SAD BUT IT IS TRUE…”
