Nassau, Bahamas : Officers in the Ministry of Tourism are being asked to resign from the ministry, after active service in foreign offices. A ministry official noted that, ‘two of the individuals have already been advised by the office in Nassau that their contract will not be renewed.’ All of the individuals are said to to have given loyal long service to the ministry of tourism, however one said, “it is clear the ministry does not intend to renew our contract.”
The downsizing is a confirmation of the serious economic climate around the world where governments are seeing the need to discontinue labourers in the service due to declining revenue figures. The Ingraham government began the track of downsizing staffers in the government service just after taking office in May 2, 2007. Over 1,000 temporary workers contracts were not renewed by the returning Ingraham administration.
