Bahamian D. J Fines Repeats His Amazing Feat in Jamaica

Nassau, Bahamas – Carvin Dorsett better known as D. J Fines is again The Heineken Green Synergy Disc. Jockey Champion. The competition held recently at The Chinese Benevolent Association Centre in Jamaica brought together The Caribbeans top D.J’s, who had battled for several weeks leading up to the Regional Finals.

Carvin, who happens to be one of the youngest d.j’s to enter the competition, began competing professionally in 2005. It is difficult to win or even place in a competition, if you have never competed professionally before. That is exactly what he did in 2005, when he travelled to St. Lucia and placed 10th in the now popular competition that many Bahamians had never even heard about. The Heineken Green Synergy Competition is now a household phrase in The Caribbean and so is the name of our champ Fines.

This bright young man took the title in a history making feat becoming the first d.j to win in front of his home crowd in 2006. He has now repeated his line of first by becoming the first D. J in the history of the competition to successfully defend the title.

Fans and family alike waited with bated breath as Air Jamaica landed recently at Lynden Pindling National Airport bringing home our champion. Carvin, came out of the gate dressed in traditional Jamaican colours of red, gold and green, clutching a huge cheque in his bosom.

In an interview shortly after returning home from Jamaica, he spoke about his big win, prizes awarded to him and how the competition has affected his life.

“Of course I am elated to have won the competition for the second time in a row, especially after all my technical problems. I have had to improvise because, none of my tricks was on that plane that took me to Jamaica and it never came afterwards. Kudos to Heineken for organizing the competition and for the cheque of Ten Thousand Dollars. Prizes received were a trophy, cell phone and a some other gifts.” I have also gotten a few bookings immediately in Jamaica and a few in other islands. Tempo, in particular Jabba host of Cross Caribbean Countdown has reached out to me, and we have forged some ties. I thank them for their coverage which reaches many islands and keeps Caribbean persons abreast of what is going on. Only some of the plans for the immediate future have been solidified, so the ones that I am speaking to you about are definite. I would really like the public to know that I would do this for free, even if there was not a monetary prize. I just love performing. The Jamaican audience was not biased and their hospitality was great. I look forward to again representing The Bahamas throughout the coming year, and would also look to acknowledge my employers Tribune Media\One Hundred Jamz.”

Gee Money, one of the host of the show said, “Dj Fines did his thing again this year even though he made some mistakes and his cd players were messing up a bit. What won it for him was his crowd responds and the use of the microphone. He himself looked surprised when I called his name as the winner, I believe he thought his little mistakes did him in but it didn’t and he won by 10 points.”
