Angry young fathers fired along with 50 other young workers sent home today from Pioneer Shipping with nothing to take home.

Nassau, Bahamas – Workers from Pioneer Shipping were made redundant today following the closure of the company. Irate workers argued how can they go home without a dollar from the company? One workers came to tears after contacting Bahamas Press saying she has four children to feed, rent to pay and grocery. “I don’t know why the government does allow these companies to operate, who fail to pay National Insurance. Every week they took it out of our pay but now we have nothing to take home? If they don’t pay national insurance, how in the world they would pay us,” the irate mother said.

News of Pioneer Shipping closure came last week, however today, Tropical Shipping in Exuma also announced their closure on that island. Raising costs and a slowing economy is said to be the reason for that shipping company closure.

  1. This isn’t the first time that a company has been alleged to not have paid National Insurance benifits. The Governments of both parties has filed to make large companies be accountable for not paying employees National Insurance. So now when it leaks out that the company never paid this mandatory government “tax” nothing happens. If this allegation is proven true, I hope to hear in the news in a few weeks that this company be taken to court and made to say why they haven’t paid these employees National Insurance that is needed now for them to claim off of.But like many other things in this country no action would be done and noone would be made accountable for this travesty. If this was the United States and it had been found that a company wellfully not paid Government taxes they would be sent to Federal Court and have to pay harse penalties. But because some companies in this country are “hat in hand” with the government the poor working coller Bahamian is the one that loses. Our country better wake up
