Nassau, Bahamas — Breaking news coming out of the Biminis at this hour confirms a senior police officer has been arrested on that island. Bahamas Press on Bimini confirms officers of the DEU in Nassau flew to Bimini on yesterday and made the arrest of Inspector Kevin Mortimer. He has been flown to the capital around 6pm on Friday.

Sources in the DEU tell BP Mortimer was under investigation from Freeport and Cat Island and was sent to Bimini. We are told DEU officers landed on the island on Friday and escorted Mortimer back to Nassau under heavy Guard.

Inspector Mortimer is the Officer-in-Charge of the Bimini District, which includes Cat Cay and Ocean Cay.  Mortimer brought a quarter-century of policing skills and experience, which has included service on several Family Islands namely, Andros District, Eleuthera District, and Cat Island District as officer-in-charge and also served in Grand Bahama.

The chief inspector was transferred to Grand Bahama in December 2000 and worked as second in command at Mobile Division and officer-in-charge of the Traffic Division. He was later appointed Officer-in-Charge and Training Manager for the Police Training College in Grand Bahama (first recruits trained outside New Providence). This post was held from the establishment of the satellite college in 2003 until his transfer to Bimini Division.

Mortimer is a certified Disaster Management Instructor. He was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 1999 and to Chief Inspector in 2007. He is the holder of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and the Police Meritorious Service Medal.

  1. For months I been telling ‘yinner’ when you see we write something Russell Johnson this is no story. We don’t have time to be writing LUCY GOOSEY and FOXY LOCKSY stories. Bahamas Press stories is so real we get it from the HORSE HIMSELF!

    REAL NEWS… More to come.

We have a report coming out on Christmas Day you will not believe. We had this one steeping for weeks, waiting to see if any in the WUTLESS MEDIA had it. Our guesses were right. They don’t.

  2. I read in one of the dailies that the Police were not prepared to address this matter and that disturbed me because I now realise that something happened and charges might be brouight against the accused Officer.Stupid is all I say as its now 2009 and the days of the 70s and 80s are over.

  3. ( currently sucking teeth ) Bui … why Bahamians so simple…. Yall dnt think that if he was doin ” business ”  in Bimini he would have been caught long time and he would have started from he join the force?  Come on man lets be reasonable. Da damn man innocent. Dey wudda catch homeboy long time man. See thats jus the typical and and average Bahamian mind set. See we is get jealous of people when dey prosper and try everyting in our power to bring dem down. das jus a way of life dat every Bahamian learns and lives by. What i really dont understand right? Is how in the H E L L yall cud say he is deal wit ” business ” just because he and his family wear nice clothing and have several cars? How long this man been on da force? think about his pay check? so his wife dnt work too den? ( sucks teeth again ) Come on bahamians lets use some logic here and no be STUPID!!!

  4. WOW ITS GOOD TO SEE THAT NOT EVERY ONE IS AGAINST THE POLICE AND THAT SUM PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT NOT ALL ALLEGATIONS ARE REAL SOME ARE FALSE . I THINK WHEN EVER SOME MAKES A COMPLAINT AGAINST ANY ONE AND IS FOUND TO BE FALSE THE SHOULD PUT THEM ON T V TO LIKE THEY PUT INNOCENT PEOPLE . WHAT DO YOU THINK?

  5. I think it is unfair to prejudge this officer in the public like this.  Dont you think that possibily someone may have something against the officer.  I truly feel sorry for him and his family if this alligation is unture.

  6. @ J Rigby so you sayin a jeep is conclusive evidence of a drug affiliation nah can be simple as dat and who determines an individuals means and what is above or below .sound like black crab gripe and sour grapes if he guilty brink proper evidence for which he can be prosecuted and there is the proceeds of crime act which could recover ill gotten gains..so if you have evidence of the kind dat can be put to proof thats one ting but to convict a man based on jeeps and nice clothes come on man haha why are people watching this mans possessions anyway this is only an allegation and based on our track record may be false like the story of the 5 month year old dat was raped….so dont grudge the man fah he tings and whish him a speedy fall

  7. Its about time the police clean up officers who clearly lives above their means of income by becoming involved in illegal activities.  His home and jeeps were searched in Freeport. Some people never satisfied and know when to quit and live the true public  image  they display.

  8. Heard that their is no truth to this story… but if there is we ned all crooked croops out of the force and I understand that 70% of the force falls into that area… Poor Hurbert, what tough decision he has to make.. but I know that Hubert is able…

  9. I am curious as to whether or not they will Charge this Officer before the Courts and for what? The probelm I may have with this is while  DEU may have its tips and suspicion, if they cannot stick anything on him to Charge him, then BP you could have ruin this Officers Career by posting his Picture and placing him in the JAIL OF PUBLIC OPINION. No matter how innocent he may be or not, damage is done and a possibly Good Officer with an impeccable Record will have his stellar career damaged by (i think) a premature report and prosecution.

    • I think that it is unfortunate that this officer whom I found to be a officer and a Gentleman has gotten involved in this controversy, however we must consider him innocent until Proven  guilty.

  10. Dutty Gal we know many Bahamians are not use to the detail level of reporting we present.

They could not imagine an online newspaper could discovering the hiding place of a murderer on the run in the US. BP tracked that person down right to her doorsteps.

They are not use to an online paper tracking down a pedophile by his every move and be equally bold enough to report the government’s slow pace to capture and return him here.

They never dream a newspaper could tell you what is happening inside NIB. ALL THE Hemorrhage OF PUBLIC MONEY!

All we can tell you Dutty Gal is this, get use to it. The Bahamian AP is here, BP.

  11. Really sad to see so many years invested, potentially go to waste.  But we must clean up corruption in high places if we are to rescue this country from moral disintegration.  We must do what we have to do and let the chips fall where they may.

    • ………..“Let the chips fall where they may.” But for what motive and at what cost.  It is my solemn entreaty that you  endure the chips as they plummet, should you one day find yourself wrongfully indicted.

  12. I find this extremely difficult to believe. This is clearly a sinister attempt to malign and tarnish this officer’s reputation. Fancy the informant to Bahamas Press is so well conversant to this officer’s entire tenure since his conscription to the RBPF.
