LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Urgent safety issue- PLEASE READ
To all my friends
I need to tell you about an incident that happened to a friend and I
this past Tuesday.
We were running at Ft. Charlotte together, in broad daylight (5pm).
There were two cross country teams training, many people
out walking and running, children practicing cricket etc…. We had just
run up the hill to the fort, passing two fellow runners
going in the opposite direction. Five seconds later, two clean cut,
neatly dressed men in white T-shirts and jeans approached
us, one brandishing a handgun. They demanded I give them the keys to my
car, which I immediately did (I only had the clicker
on me). The one with the gun told me to get on the ground, which I did.
He told my friend to run in the opposite direction, up
the verge toward the actual fort. As she begged for our lives, I
realized that I was totally defenseless lying on the ground. I
remembered an e-mail someone had forwarded to me about self defense; I
think it was from my friend Shelley. Shelley, or if it
was not you, whoever sent it, thank you for saving my life. The e-mail
said if you are confronted by someone with a gun, you
have to run. Run zig zag, as a moving target is harder to hit. The
gunman was still standing, so I sent my friend a mental
message to follow me, and then I got up and ran down the rocky, dirt
hill. I did not have any choice but to zigzag as the
dirt was unstable and I needed to avoid tripping over rocks. At the
bottom of the hill was a 6 ft wall down to the cricket pitch.
I heard footsteps behind me and I was relieved to see my friend.
Somehow, we jumped down the wall and ran to the cricket club
for help. As we were running to the cricket club, I saw the two men get
into my car and drive away. We gave a report to the
police. Interestingly, I have yet to see this incident reported on in
any of the newspapers.
For those of you who know my 2002 red explorer with the family stick
figures, 26.2 sticker, soccer mom ribbon, and Nicole’s
Butterfly kisses ribbon and Mickey mouse head on the antena (hard to
miss!!!), please keep a look out for the vehicle and
call the police (Nassau Street station is handling the matter) if you
see it.
Please stay safe. Just remember, we were in broad daylight, in a
populated area, running together, and this still happened to us.

And we know for a fact that is the case. Oh by the way, did Carl Bethel paid that dead woman’s national insurance bill yet NOW YOU ASKED?
I was not robbed by gun but I am disappointed in Bahamas Press for not revealing any information on how a MP robbed the Bahamian people. Who is it? And why are you suspiciously silent.
Give God all the glory for allowing you to get away safe and sound to be able to tell your story. Thanks for sharing and I hope that you would always be safe and free from all harm and danger.
Just an observation and a question.
I’ve noticed over the past week aired commercial on BahaMar… To be bring millions of dollars of revenue for the Bahamas and to cause thousands of jobs in the Bahamas. BahaMar good for the Bahamas. My question is,Is BahaMar returning to the Bahamas, will they continue in their effort to develop the multi billion dollar project,and if yes when?
Thank you for sharing this, that place always strikes me as a perfect place for a thief or rapist to hang out.
Hmm… why didn’t you brandish your concealed handgun and dispatch these hoodlums to the lower regions of hell?
Ah yes, because the Bahamian government requires you to be disarmed and defenseless.
Not only did these men get away this time, it is a virtual guarantee that they will victimize again.
This is sad and unfortunate and VERY scary. No one is immune to the violence and crime in this country.
