Another federal criminal captured for high-level crimes in the Bahamas was given a slap on the wrist. After possessing an illegal weapon, breaking into homes, stealing boats and aircrafts and illegally entering into the Bahamas the Barefoot Bandit will not spend a day in jail.
A Bahamian judge today slapped Colton Harris-Moore with a $300 fine.
BOY WE WUTLESS! JUSTICE IS TRUELY AN INVENTION OF THE DEVIL!
Ok Truth, you need to calm down. I agree this was a political decision – I said this in my first post. I happen to believe that it was the right decision. We could ill-afford another high-profile criminal case in a system that is, quite frankly, lousy. A good local attorney vs those inept lawyers in the AG’s office could turn out to be quite a specticle. I sat on a jury and have seen this up close. Let America deal with this kid. He is their problem.
EAGLE, WHY ARE YOU SUCH AN ASS? THE BANDIT COMMITTED CRIMES IN THE BAHAMAS, FOR WHICH HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED, TRIED IN OUR COURT OF LAW AND LEVIED WHATEVER PENALTIES THE LAW CALLS FOR. I AM SURE MOST OF THE CRIMES THE BOY BANDIT COMMITTED CARRIED FINES OR JAIL SENTENCES IF THE FINES WERE NOT PAID AND BELIEVE ME THE US GOVERNMENT OR CANADA WOULD HAVE PAID THE FINES JUST TO GET THEIR HAND ON HIM. INGRAHAM NEEDS MONEY AND WE COULDN’T HAVE GOTTEN A GOOD BUNDLE OUT OF THAT CRIMINAL. BUT JUST LIKE THIS FNM ADMINISTRATION, TRUE TO FORM WHEN DEALING WITH WHITE FOREIGN PEOPLE THEY GIVE AWAY THE BABY WITH THE BATH. THIS IS UNCLE TOM, INGRAHAM, AT HIS BEST AND DON’T TELL ME THAT THE COURTS ARE TO BE BLAMED. DON’T FORGET THAT IT WAS THE ATTORNEY GENERAL WHO CONTROLLED THIS MATTER AND ORDERED WHAT CHARGES WERE TO BE BROUGHT AGAINST THE BOY BANDIT.
@ Tones & WOW. I understand your sentiment. I think back, for instance, of the thug who beat up the policemen by Senor Frogs a few months back. But in this case, the bulk of his crimes were comitted in the US, I think it is reasonable for the US to get a shot at him first. Again, unlike the Senor Frogs case, this guy will be brought to justice. All things considered, this appears to be an executive decision to save the Bahamas from unwanted media attention and I think it was the right decision.
@Tones
You hit the nail on the head.
@Eagle
What about those persons in Abaco and Eleuthera whose homes, businesses, and boat boats were vandalized by this culprit? This is part of the reason we all pay taxes, for protection and justice from criminal elements. This is the reason why we are having an increase in vigilante justice, people don’t feel they can count on the system to prevail.
Eagle it’s amazing to see how intelligent Bahamians justify the most assinine actions because of politics. Every Bahamian knows that this was the wrong decision. If the government can pay for Charles Maynard to go to South Africa then the government can pay for this thief to be fully prosecuted in Bahamian courts. When a young black male is caught with a gun they get the mandatory time…how come this white American male is given a free pass…and next y’all will turn around and wonder why crime is so prevalent in the Bahamas…well its prevalent because people in the lower socioeconomic groups in society see the double standard perpetrated against them every day.
If a black Bahamian male did the same thing in the U.S. he would spend quite a significant amount of time in a U.S. jail.
The real problem here is the evolution of the plantation system on display in the Bahamas. Black leaders fear to apply the full law to American criminals in this country. Our spineless black leaders have all the hard mouth in the world when it comes to dealing with black criminals and citizens. Case in point the recent threatening comments made by PM Ingraham to the voters whose ballot was a part of the Elizabeth by-election court case.
A number of years ago a white German fired a handgun at a Paradise Island airplane, he was never adequately punished. Just recently an American sociopath assaulted Bahamian policemen, he wasn’t seriously punished either. No matter what Americans do in this country they never face the same dispensing of justice that a Bahamian faces for committing the same crime.
Our police did a fine job in catching this fugitive when even the U.S. FBI couldn’t capture him. The fault for this travesty of justice lies at the feet of the Attorney General John Delaney. Mr.Delaney should resign in shame. The only he is good for is to speak proper English while making improper decisions.
Oh and while I’m at it, can the U.S. Ambassador take a break from her India Arie, pseudo-black conscious concert tour and make a comment repectfully telling the Bahamian people how come she didn’t complain about this fugitive American thief getting a slap on the wrist while black people, especially black Americans suffer dispropotionately in U.S. jails.
Or does the U.S. Ambassador need to resign to?
I love our fine neighbor to the north. America has millions of compassionate, loving, conscious citizens…it’s America’s dregs and unfair and double standard policies that are a pain…
I suspect that this decision came from the AG. And I can’t say that I disagree. Charge him with the most minor expense and deport him to the US. Justice will be served there. This way, you avoid the long extradition process, the criminal trials, the media circus around our courts and not to mention the cost to Bahamian taxpayer of all of this. The man is not getting off scot-free. The question is, who will pay for bringing him to justice – Bahamas or United States? When you think about it, it’s a no-brainer.
OMG… I am Bahamian and American and a New Yorker from the boogie down Bronx hard core. and I am ashamed … $300.. Really? thats it…. Thats not even enough to cover the officers hard work and travels to get him.. $300 is like $10. easy to get and not much from it. This man has no remorse for his doings. He will just keep on keeping on.
Bio BP, if that was me or you ours you know what would have been in Fox Hell Prison for aleast 3-5 years.
THe police let off the hook with a light charge.
The young men in Fox Hill prison is watching!
Y’all realize how much the Government spent on this one week manhunt?
Well muddos!
I hope this will not set another presedent, a few years ago one was set with murder accused being given bail,that was a can of worms we still trying to contain, now i hope the next person who gets caught with with an illigal gun don’t use this as a case reference ppl.vs.moore….did we open pandora’s box……
