NASSAU, Bahamas – The Port Department in focusing on health and safety in its exhibition at the entrance to Prince George Wharf.

Doctors Hospital, the Princess Margaret Hospital and the Public Health Authority have been providing free health tests for persons in the Port area.

Capt Anthony Allens, Port Controller said, “The port facilities play a very important role in the economic life of the Bahamas. More than 90 per cent of world trade is done through shipping.

“Prince George Wharf, through which nearly 3 million tourists pass each year, brings a significant amount of economic benefit to the people of The Bahamas.

“We place a lot of emphasis on how we treat our visitors when they get here because first impressions are lasting ones,” Capt. Allens noted.

A significant feature of Port Week is recognition of the “excellent work” of Port employees, Capt Allens added.

“The response from port users has been tremendous and we are grateful for that,” he said.
