Nassau, Bahamas: It has come to the attention of Bahamas Press that some 20 workers of Domino’s Pizza eatery have lost their jobs at the company on Friday past. Domino’s closed its store at the foot of the Paradise Island bridge and will soon close a second store in an over-the-hill community.
Here is a clear sign that things are getting worse under the FNM and greater hardship is now being felt across this country. But what amazes us at Bahamas Press is the shared silence of the terminations by the WUTLESS MEDIA, the PLP. NOT A SINGLE WORD OF THE TERMINATIONS HAS COME FROM THEM BOTH!
Once again we ask the question, WHO IS SPEAKING UP FOR HARDWORKING YOUNG BAHAMIANS IN THIS COUNTRY? Who in this Bahamas has found the VOICE for the weak, and the frail? Where are the unions who once championed the cause of workers in this country? Or are we simply looking in all the wrong direction for the voice of HOPE in this town.
Bahamas Press is appalled and disgusted at the rash actions of companies that seem to box around young workers around in this country, kicking them to the curb as if they have NO STAKE IN THIS COUNTRY! Firing workers without any care for years of service and some have failed to pay a single dime to those terminated. How are they to buy food for their young babies in this hard overpriced Bahamas, come on man!
It is indeed WRONG and TERRIBLY painful to see how so many young Bahamians are trashed in the heap of the unemployed whilst leaders, particularly ‘that one’ at the helm of the PLP, say nothing! Who is standing up and being a voice of the WEAK? Who is marching for the cause of the underprivileged in this country? Who is speaking against the WICKEDNESS plotted against young hardworking Bahamians who have been tossed into the bin of despair and hopelessness? WHERE IS THE PARTY OF THE PEOPLE? WHERE IS THE PARTY THAT ONCE CHAMPIONED FOR THE CAUSES OF THE PEOPLE? WHERE ARE THE MORDERN DAY MILO, PINDLING AND HANNA?
And how did has all these ‘PUSSY CATS’ invade our political system, with them having NO GUTS TO FIGHT FOR THE WEAK IN THIS COUNTRY?
Whilst Ingraham is fighting for Kerzner, Bay Street and everything foreign, and Christie for Baha Mar and Ginn, Who is fighting for us, the ordinary hardworking young Bahamian in this town?

Future PM don’t get me wrong I agree with the last part of your comment, but I have a serious problem with your introduction.
Jr., Joe Blow and Connie is right. Future PM if you are serious about running for politics in the future, I think you need to change your approach. You are a new comer to this site and you are not starting out on a good foot. You just reach up in here and the first thing you seek to do is criticize the regular participants. We can not accept such behavior from you, if we allow you to start off like this; you just would not have any respect for any of us. I am glad Jr. saw the need to put you in your place. Even though I don’t always agree with the other’s contributions, I have the most respect for them. Like Connie said we all love our country and want the best for it, so if you want to be future PM you better learn how to listen and respect people for their views and stop the criticizing them. Even Media has allowed us to come here and express our feeling freely without criticizing anyone for what they believe is reality. Coming here and reading other people point of view has even helped me to change my conviction on some things. Joe Blow has helped me to see things more clearly many times and he whenever he disagrees with my comments he would let me know, but he never criticize me. You can learn so much from the other bloggers.
I’m sure Media would be the first to say the system of government isn’t failing, its the people we have running that are.
I have to say that I agree with Joe Blow and JR on this one because I had a great conversation with Joe Blow and RB75 last week and I do not think that our political persuasion swayed that convo. You have to understand a thing before you jump to criticize correctly. I think that it is great to make contributions on sites such as this one but you have to make sense and really it did not. You have to understand that we can;t sing KUMBAYA on every issue but there are some things that I think all of us on this site who contribute regularly agree on. We love our country and we need to change some things. We only disagree most times on the details.
Future PM? My brother, you really need to get a quick baptism in how things work in real societies. Unless we talk about things in their unvarnished, natural state, pimples and all, we can’t even begin to think about fixing anything. I don’t think Bahamas Press exists to fix anything, no matter how much Media says they do. They can’t fix anything, they can only expose and give us a platform to address things. We the people can fix things and BP is a part of that but I think they serve an important purpose. Someone has to put the topics on the table and start with a position. Sometimes they are right, sometimes not, but you have to give it to them for doing what many of us have only thought about doing.
So if you want to be the future PM, you need to start by being a lot more openminded, tolerant and willing to hear the whole story and not just the pretty parts. Joe is also right. We may argue, call each other names and sometimes end up with hard feelings but in the end, we are a part of a process. I’ve learnt things from him and More hands and who fights more than we do? Same thing with OT and Connie and even Media. The point is we have to start the conversations and keep them going and only by doing this can we even begin to think about “solutions.”
Any attempt at a solution without discourse pro and con is a delusion and we’re done with deluded leaders and wannabe leaders.
This is a good oportunity to look at the Unemployment Insurance Scheme and get your thoughts on it out in the open. Will it help in cases such as this? Future P.M.: Get your feet wet and contribute your thoughts about it. Personally, I believe this is something that should have been studied and implemented years ago, especially when employment times were good. We, in this country, continue to be re-active, rather than pro-active; and that is very detrimental to our progress.
I am sorry if I am the only non party politics believer. I am new to this site so forgive my bluntness but, reading you comments I have seen not one single way to remedy the situation only numerous attempts to point fingers at one party or the other. If you all on here believe that change is necessary let it start here and by your words and actions change will come. Complaining alone remodels nothing in our failing system of government.
Well said CapnGordo. When will Bahamians realize that “the powers that be” are not “out to get them”. As you say “business is business” and its the “bottom line” that dictates the path.
I find it ironic that at the bottom of the diatribe there is an advertising link to Dominoes Pizza.
Businesses expand and contract. Workers are hired and let go. It’s a natural phenomenom. To expect anything else is ludicious. Business is not in business to provide jobs – jobs are part of the equation, only part. Business is in business to make money for the owners. If they’re losing money then the business is not viable and will cease to exist – which is what happened.
Well the fnm brought Mr. Ingraham back. And look where that got us,

This is gone way beyond Dominoes this is a true sign that the country need change that we can beleive in and that the nation is in dire need of vision….there is not a single way forward coming from any leader in this country instead we have a Prime Minister who has become like stalin of the USSR when he dosent like you you are shipped of to Siberia in this case it is Canada or retirement …There was not one single piece of legislation that came to the HOA that has anything of substance to help out the Bahamian people and yet we still sit down and nothing is said.
It was very said this week when the Prime Minister had to call a person out of retirement to take up a position in cabinet this is very sad and a slap to all the youth in our nation …..no wonder why the way things are done in this nation will not change beacause we keep recycling the same people over and over again …what will it take for the eyes of our people to be open up.

I just knew Dominoes had fallen on some hard times, when they came out with that cornbeef pizza. Cornbeef was much cheaper than the pepperoni and you could of spread one can over several pizzas. That right there should have sent the workers and the general public a red flag.
Well maybe Morehands you should share that thought with Hubert Ingraham (DA LACKEY) wasn’t it he who appointed the largest Cabinet this country has ever seen?
When you come on here, you better know how you are coming. Domino’s was the one DUMB enough to open the second branch in the first place and hire more staff, when they should have opened at Habour Bay and move the staff from the bridge id sluggish sales was the issue.
But many of you Morehands and THE WUTLESS MEDIA try your best to suggest the reasons for the terminations.
Well let us go futher to the information from our source. Domino’s did not fire workers from that Paradise Island Branch alone, and I’ll bet you when the President spoke to the ‘TOILET PAPER’ to create their spin, he did not mention that. They fired workers for all across the Domino’s chain of stores and asked those workers to collect their letters from their head office at the Town Centre Mall.
So to you Morehands don’t be lost in the story, the workers fired were not just from the Paradise Island branch.

Wouldn’t you say that this is the same parable (reality) for Bahamasair, BEC, Batelco, Water & Sewerage, ZNS, Ministry of Education, Ministry of National Security, Registrars Office, Attorney Generals Office, Department of Lands & Survey, Department of Local Government….the whole &%$% PUBLIC SERVICE SYSTEM – Too many bosses and too few people actually on the ground willing to get the job done and out of touch with the reality of what it will take to fix the problem??

BP where is the media to let the public aware of these lay offs. And why haven’t the company itself, made it known to the public about the cancallation of one of their branches. HMMMMM I guess the public would find out from the notice on the board. When driving to the location to order a pizzza, or calling another location to ponder why the phone is ringing and no one seems to pick up on the other end. Ohhhh I know WHY! They where waiting on you BP, to inform the public on which you do so well. Thanks BP for always informing us.

A Modern Parable, very sad.
A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (Ford Motors) decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak per formance before the race.
On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.
The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A management team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action.
Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, while the American team had 7 people steering and 2 people rowing.
Feeling a deeper study was in order; American management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion.
They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.
Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team’s management structure was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 2 area steering superintendents and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.
They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 2 people rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the ‘Rowing Team Quality First Program,’ with meetings, dinners and free pens for the rowers. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses. The pension program was trimmed to “equal the competition” and some of the resultant savings were channeled into morale boosting programs and teamwork posters.
The next year the Japanese won by two miles.
Humiliated, the American management laid-off one rower, halted development of a new canoe, sold all the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses.
The next year, try as he might, the lone designated rower was unable to even finish the race (having no paddles,) so he was laid off for unacceptable performance, all canoe equipment was sold and the next year’s racing team was out-sourced to India .

Here’s something else to think about: Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US , claiming they can’t make money paying American wages.
TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US . The last quarter’s results:
TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.
Ford folks are still scratching their heads, and collecting bonuses…
