A BP NEWS ALERT: Turks and Caicos political party official arrested on suspicion of bribery

By Global News Correspondent

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands — Jan Messam, who served as the chief protocol officer for the Progressive National Party (PNP) in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), was arrested in Providenciales (Provo) on Tuesday on suspicion of bribery.

Messam is married to Rex Messam, who is a senior salesman at Prestigious Properties, a real estate firm owned by the Misick family. Washington Misick is reported to head the firm

The couple built a large upscale home in the Chalk Sound area of Provo, which they sold for a considerable sum to Jamaican national David Smith, who headed an investment firm known as Olint. Smith was tried and convicted of investor related fraud in the TCI and sentenced to 6-1/2 years in prison.

He has since been extradited to the US, where he is being held for trial on similar charges.

Those who know the couple say they and Smith were close associates and friends. All three worshipped together as strong contributing members of the Community Fellowship Ministry, which is located on Leeward Highway on Provo. The church has experienced considerable growth in the size of their facilities in recent years.

Meanwhile, sources have indicated that three other females are being sought by authorities. One is possibly linked to a former high ranking official of the PNP.

In other crime news, Bahamian drug enforcement police have reported they impounded 16 packages of cocaine from two Bahamian males early Sunday morning, January 16.

The drug bust occurred at the Lynden Pindling International Airport when the two men arrived with the drugs from the Turks and Caicos Islands, reportedly on a private jet.

The 16 packages of the drug are reported to have a value of over $250,000 and were found in a suitcase. The men are listed as 38 and 45 years of age.

Only six days prior, another drug bust occurred in Grand Turk, when police impounded cocaine worth $100,000. Two males were arrested in connection with this incident.

TCI police seem unable to comment on how the two men were able to clear TCI security when boarding the plane.

  1. Good to know that all three ( David Smith, Jan and Rex Messam) were strong contributors at their ministry. Typical Caribbean hypocrites, steal all week and go to church on sunday. David Smith put dozens of decent families in the poor house. Scumbag!!

    • @ Peter, a rather ignorant statement to (publicly) make as I am sure you know none of the three. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but since you arent the one doing the investigating and have no information but what you hear and read and deem as true I would I would keep my facetious, and imbecilic comments to myself!
….barking up the wrong tree pal!

  2. All ‘commonwealth’ nations are under attack by the great white shark called C-O-R-R-U-P-T-I-O-N !

Every where you turn, these miscreants are turning up the plantation-machinery. Every thing they touch turns to ashes. Every they say is borne of deceit. Their modus operendi is to STEAL-DECEIVE-KILL-DESTROY!

People, stop drinking their kool-aid and send their backsides back to the caves their ancestors came from – THE DEEP DARK PITS OF HELL!

    • And the biggest corrupt sharks ARE THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT. They are the great white shark and the pirates of the Caribbean. What are they after? I guess we will find out after they swallow everything whole and rape our islands.
