In the House of Assembly last week, Hubert Ingraham stated that the truckers doing work for Bahamar would be paid $75.00 per load, and we heard it with my own two ears.

Week before last, the truckers were paid $70.00 per load, but went to the office on Friday past only to be told that they would be paid $40.00 per load for trucking from Cable Beach to the dump and back.

The company that has this particular contract is Mosko (of course). This means they are being paid $75.00 per load and paying the truckers $40.00 per load thereby making a profit of $35.00 per load while paying zero expenses.

The person in charge at the office was told what was tabled in the House of Assembly, but responded “Hubert Ingraham has no jurisdiction there”.

The truckers are meeting in the morning (Monday the 14th) at the vacant lot east of the Cable Beach Police station in protest of this robbery committed against them.

  1. THE TRUCKERS AREA ABSOLUTELY RIGHT IF THEY DONT PROTEST NOW THEN YOU CAN EXPECT EVERONE TO GET SHAFT AS THE WORK PROGRESS. ITS NOT THEIR FAULT IF THE GENERAL CONTRACTORS UNDER BID TO GET THE JOB THEY NEED TO PAY THE TRUCKING CONTRACTORS A FARE RATE. IF $75 IS THE STANDARD TO MOVE ONE LOAD THEN TO MOVE A LARGE VOLUME THE RATE CAN BE REDUCE POSSIBLE TO $60-$65 PER LOAD BUT NOT $45 THATS TO BIG A LOST WHEN U LOOK AT FUEL, MAN HOURS AND WEAR AND TEAR ON THOSE TRUCKS THATS CRAZY. AND THE RIGHT PLACE TO PROTEST IS WHERE U CAN GATHER ATTENTION TO YOUR CAUSE. THE HELL WITH THOSE PEOPLE WHO WANNA FEEL SHAME EVERYTIME U HAVE TO FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS. THEIR BREAD IS ALREADY BUTTERED OR THEY ARE JUST SHEEPS. LET THEM GO AND EAT THE SCRAPS FRO THE TABLE THE CHICKEN FOOT AND PIG GUTS. DEMAND WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY YOURS, A PROPER PAY.

  2. It sound like Deesha is getting a cut under da table to. Wake up people BLACK or CONCHYJOE, da prime minister was, have and will never have the best interest of US at heart. You have to be a big money giver either to him or to his party in order for him to take notice of you. I am sure we remember Burma Road and trust me that is exactly what we have to resort to again in order for da PM, bahamar, careless & worthless(LIME), anyone or any investor to see we as BAHAMIANS are serious. We are the work force that can either make money or loose money for them. Until we decide to come together and UNITE as ONE then we will be SLAVES.

    • Well, you should probably take some English classes then, because until you can spell and actually speak correctly, nobody will take you seriously. “Da” is not a substitution for “the” at anytime. You sound like an idiot.

  3. To begin with, Deesha is correct. This a contractor issue, and has nothing to do with Baha Mar or the management within. Also, the Prime Minister has no jurisdiction over the amount the truckers are paid. That being said, between ISD and Hot Mix, there are more than enough private trucks to complete the work, however the other truckers (i.e. The ones protesting today) have been hired solely to stimulate the Bahamian economy. Both ISD and Hot Mix are Bahamian companies, and are handling a job on a scale that no other Bahamian company has. They employee almost exclusively Bahamians, and are working to improve both the economy and New Providence as a whole. Maybe the other commenters should conduct a little more research before casting a judgement that seems skewed and ignorant.

  4. why are people suprise about working conditions for the majority of people in this counrtry ie black majority .we always get the sub-contract work whiles our white bahamian brothers get the full contract and give us the scrapts.and we wonder why crime among other things are out of control in this country.we who believe we are more educated or middle income watch as we get puch into the poor class and take it standing up as our forefathers in the middle passage took to the slave trade.truly is the justice or help for generations of bahamians to come.

  5. ISD is the contractor in conjunction with Hot Mix. Baha Mar carves up pieces of their master project and issues them out to companies like these. Any issues should be taken with the contractors who bid and agree to do project work for a specific price. Making a scene in front of Baha Mar won’t make a difference and is really unprofessional

  6. i know it was going to happen lord have mercy on our people stand tall Bahamian dont allow these people to take bread out your mouth

  7. See what is already happening. If the Chinese project will tell the Prime Minister that he has no jurisdiction at Bahmar, then imagine what they will tell our Bahamian laborers? I hear the Chinese government is going to construct a village for all the Chinese to live, including feeding them all their meals and then deducting the meals, and lodging, from their paychegues. Any truth to permits being issued to Chinese doctors? Seems like the UBP might already be getting their cut, before any Bahamian will be paid?

  8. we better watch JP moncur…he wants to be the FIDEL of the Bahamas. he is always opposing everything, good and bad. really mixed up.
im wonderin if the Bay street Valentine Day Fire is a start of anything sinister? I hope not, or we in deep trouble. Hubert better call out all hands on deck and throw bernard in jail rite now
