The Department of the Environment Should Ride Kemp Road

The Department for the Environment should do what we at BP did on Saturday morning and view for themselves the concerns by residents of the Kemp Road Community.

All along that road there are a string of black flags hanging all along the street. But what makes this scene more disgusting is this; the Bahamian Flag is torn all along the lamp poles on that street. We find this display disturbing to say the least. DISGUSTING! Absolutely SHAMEFUL!

We call on all in the ministry for the environment to get the hell off their duffs and restore that community back to its natural state.

I have seen your posts on other issues and before reading this one I accurately predicted the remarks you would make and the “side” that you would support. That makes your position (on every matter when the FNM government is criticized todate) PREDICTABLE.

Who gave permission for those flags to be placed there (i.e. which government agency). Surely, climbing a street lamp pole and removing flags near to electrical wires cannot be compared with the simpler task of picking up litter off the ground. So efforts at reducing this matter to an anti-littering scoulding of Kemp Road residents doesn’t sell. Come on! The residents of Kemp Road can be no more responsible for removal of these flags than the store owners on Bay Street would be for cleaning up after Junkanoo, or for removal of the christmas decorations placed on the street lamp poles by BEC. Which government agency permitted this to be done (and obviously has no effective compliance plans in place to ensure that the items are always removed)?

Some of the criticism leveled at the FNM government is well-deserved.

  2. I fully agree with IKB and Shari. Why is it that we as Bahamians don’t just get up off our backsides and take on the responsibility of keeping our surroundings clean??? What about the Member of Parliament for the Kemp Road area?? I believe it’s Frank Smith! Why aren’t the residents of that constituency working with their MP to clean it up??? We have been so accustomed to the government, government, government doing everything for us. There is nothing wrong with doing it for yourself! Self pride man!!!

  3. Just a reminder to those who are not aware but the FNM as a party opposed INDEPENDENCE in 1973 therefore it is not surprising that this Govt is showing callous disregard for the Bahamian flag. The 1972 General Elections were fought on the question of Independence and mutiny actually erupted in Abaco. So now all can see the FNM Govt for all it is worth ,anti Bahamian and anti symbols of Bahamianization

  4. BEC ain’t remove them destroyed flags yet with the cherry picker, they should have been removed when they removed the 40+ year old chrystmas junk lighting!!! WHAT A NATIONAL DISGRACE FROM A FOREIGN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT, THAT OCCUPY THE HALLS OF THE BAHAMIAN PARLIAMENT, WITH ALIEN DOCTRINE THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE BAHAMIANS NOR CARE ABOUT THE BAHAMAS FLAG, OR NATIONAL ANTHEM, THE BAHAMAS CONSTITUTION, AND THE BAHAMIAN PEOPLE… BP KEEP UP THE VIGILANCE, SHOW HOW NON-NATIONALISTIC A FOREIGN/FREE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT IS. WHEN WORMS ARE MANIFESTING FROM THE ROTTED CORE, OF A ONCE PRISTINE SUPER SWEET DILLY CALLED THE BAHAMAS.

You hit the nail on the head, we must see these political pay backs for what they really are. The person in charge of Urban Renewal under the FNM is a failed candidate from the last election. She ran against Perry Christie in the Farm Road Constituency for the FNM. The name Ella Lewis comes to mind. I think she is a trained educator, so yes she is out her league by her placement in urban renewal, but who cares. Its’ politics as usual.

Keep posting your objective and accurate assessments. The one-sided crazies are out in large numbers (from both sides) and the way that they push these two failed political leaders you would think that they are talking about the Master, Jesus Christ.

  6. I know much is expected from the government ministries – but is there anything we can do for ourselves as citizens? Is it possible for us to clean up after ourselves – to not throw garbage out of our car windows – to not dump our garbage through a track road rather that taking it to the dump?

  7. WHAT I DO NOT GET IS THE REASON FOR ALL THESE URBAN RENEWAL WALK ABOUT IN KEMP ROAD,AND NOTHING IS DONE TO SOME IMPROVE THE CONDITION OF THE RESIDENTS, YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL OF PERSON WHO ORGANIZE THESE WALK ABOUTS IN AND EFFORT TO PROMOTE THEIR POLICTICAL ASPIRATIONS ON THE PLIGHT OF THE POOR PEOPLE IN THE URBAN AREAS.

  8. SO what about the responsibility of the “PROUD” residents of the Kemp Road community?!!!! Where are they?!! What does it take? When are we going to stop complaining and starting doing our part as citizens in this Country, start being a part of the solutions? We work in the ministries, we live in the communities!! I live out west where the garbage is collected twice weekly;I do business in the inner city and I sometimes notice that the garbage on the inner streets are not collected for up to 2 to 3 weeks!!!I called the ministry everyday until the garbage is collected! How do we live with ourselves while working in these ministries and see our less fortunate brothers and sisters being treated like second class citizens in our own country?HOW DO WE SLEEP AT NIGHT? How do one privilege brother/sister gets his garbage collected timely and my under privilege brother/sister is told their garbage can’t be collected because there’s is problems with the trucks?NONESENSE, FOOLISHNESS, SHAMELESS, INHUMANE CRAP!!!!!It’s an indictment on all of us because we are the citizens and the government!!!

  9. Where is the Minister of Youth Sports and culture?Helicopter Earl would never even drive on Kemp Rd so he is to be excused for his insensitivity and ignorance. It is an offence to fly a tattered Bahamian flag so the Govt is guilty and must be condemned severely.I hope this unfortunate dilemma can be addressed expeditiously.

  10. Are we referring to the same Ministry that can’t now collect the garbage while the helicopter man flying about the place?
This Govt just don’t care, remember it was them that passed the turtle law in record time and just lately you have Brent talking about sharks yet crime, unemployment etc are all at an all time high have you seen him on TV speaking about soultions to these pressing issues? No but a bunch of non true true Bahamians think we should now save the sharks so he shows up!
    Lord help us!

  11. Media, I agree. The Bahamian Flag is treated like a rag by many in this Country of ours. We complain that certain groups (mainly white people)do not participate in National Celebrations, which is true in some cases, but how can one be expected to honor our Country and our Flag, when we see that our National Symbol is held is such low esteem by so many.
I hoist our Bahamian Flag proudly on a daily basis, and lower it just before sundown, as one is supposed to do, that is MY Flag, which represents My Country of which I am proud. I wish all those who are in the employ of our Government demonstrated their love and respect for our National Banner and Symbol.
If we do not respect it and treat it properly, what does that say about us?
