A Photographer, 20-year old Sharvado Simmons, is the country's latest murdered victim.

Nassau, Bahamas — Friends of slain 20-year old, Sharvado Simmons, better known as Elmo tell BP, they are still in shock following his untimely demise.

One of his friends wrote BP a telling story, which we are told, rips to the heart of the young man’s mother, who we understand is distraught after hearing of her son’s killing.

According to a close friend, “Sharvado loved his family. He lived with his mother and siblings at the family homestead in Lizzy, and as I know both he and his mother had an inseparable relationship, the times ahead for her will be tough.

“When his father left the home at a young age, Elmo stepped up and literally had to fight to keep the family together. He worked overtime in his photography business to keep food on the table.

“However, somewhere along the way it started to take a toll on him. And he succumbed to a few frownable habits, but his home relationship remained excellent.”

The death of Sharvado has left police scratching their heads and has also raised concerns to friends. For one, the said ‘Fashionista’ and carefree socialite was at a friend’s home at the time of the shooting.

Police say two men were in a home just off the Charles Saunders Highway when one man robbed the pair and fatally shooting Sharvado in the upper body. The shooter is said to have fled into the direction of Nassau Village with the weapon in hand and disappeared into the maze of homes in the area.

Sharvado and a close friend.

Crime we believe has reached a boiling point and from what we know, no one is still in custody for this latest homicide.

“Sharvado wasn’t necessarily of the crème of intellectual crop, but had street smarts and was just a carefree socialite. This codswallop on crime must stop. There are far too many murders talking place in the Bahamas and there appears to be no solution to the bedlam in sight.” a friend said.

Twenty-year-old, Sharvado Simmons, murdered victim#260 since 2009, gunned down by a lone shooter.

WE NEED CHANGE!

  2. Just finished reading a popular editorial in regards to this case. I hope the contents aren’t true, because it would seem very reckless for a young man in drag to masquerage as a female, tricking unsuspecting fellas, thugs at that, into sexual favors.

Commonsense would suggest that this form of subterfuge is not only dangerous but suicidal.

We already know that Bahamian fellas dont have much brain cells, and are easily influenced by their peers. So if this ‘trick’ was played on one of these thug-type fellas, with his friends or peer group privy to it, then the consequences are clear and obvious.

Commonsense should not be a luxury for the few.

  3. it’s very sad i’ve known shavado for couple off years to me he was sweet, kind an loving guy i dnt care what a person wants to be in life everyone has to make their own choices, it dnt give that stinkin dog to kill, but guess what you bitch that take my hard workin friend life, you will pay, man might dnt bring you to justice but you cant escape god remember that you will get yours you might think you free but think twice god knows an you will pay, SHAVADO YOU WILL BE MISS REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER

  4. @ shaheeme bahamas press prefer to publish garbage when u give them truth they edit it or refuse to publish it.

  5. Based on the newspaper account, this was a hate crime which was disguised as a robbery. Bahamians need to stop being so hypocritical and hateful and realize that all life, regardless of a person’s color, ethnic background, or alleged lifestyle preference is sacred.

I think as a society we have adopted the mentality that all life is sacred WITH THE EXCEPTION OF certain groups. Unfortunately, injustice for one is injustice for all.

The beast who took this young man’s life obviously felt empowered to do so, whether by public sentiments or brainwashing. I wonder how he would feel if a white fella thought he had equal rights to take one of his family member’s life.

My condolenses goes out to the young man’s family. Obviously he wasn’t a thug, or a blight on society but an aspiring professional whose dreams were cut short by some beast.

Trust me if that beast doesnt get his just reward in this life he will get it in the next, because he has innocent blood on his hands. May he be cursed in life and in death.

  6. this government knows crime is out of control and they have no solution but yet they want to run this country for the next five years. the FNM knows the bahamians will reject them at the polls so what they do the unthinkable they given the haitians papers to vote them back in you may say it cant happen well there is about 60-80 thousand haitians here and about 70 -90 thousand people ready to vote if ing-rum can get most of them haitians to vote for him he could return sound sick aye? but it can happen that’s his plan talk about dictator this man is a stumbling block in the bahamian way just leave him to god.

    • Really WIZARD?
Please understand that what is killing the Bahamas is the irresponsible, petty, and selfish attitudes of Bahamians. Why AGAIN is a finger being pointed at the Government for this murder? Where in this is the Government at fault? I am sure you will find a justified answer. But remember we ALL have opinions and that does not make us right; just because we can have an opinion.

In order for things to change in the Bahamas all the negative programming of teasing, name calling, disrespect for authority, negative reinforcement and most importantly irresponsibility needs to be addressed head on and some real measures to correct those destructive behaviors need to be put in place. Until then we will continue down this dark spiral of helplessness and lawlessness.

Each one teach one – the right things – and then we can see progression.

GET REAL BAHAMAS – THE PARTY IS OVER!

    • My condolences to the family and friends of this young man whose life was taken at such a young age. It is only fair that his family and friends be upset because of his death, but crime is a social ill not a political ill. The government alone can’t curb the crime rate and lessen the amount of murders taking place. It has to start within the home, churches, schools and communities. Stop blaming the government, it doesnt matter who’s in power the government alone cant solve the crime problem..there is no magic wand solution to it. GET IT TOGETHER!

  7. I am definitely sorry to hear about the murder of Sharvado Simmons.

But more importantly I am disappointed in BP/media. BP/media you and your cohorts probably just heard the word “codswallop” via the Britishpress (with the Murdoch scandal).

In order to sound intelligent, you decided to edit the words of “Sharvado’s friend.” You have stooped to a new low.

Bahamians we need to stand up for something and stop copying all manners and behaviours from folks in the UK and US.

    • Perhaps it is the victim’s friend who decided to use the new word and thus we decided to use it from him. Whatever the case the fact remains that this nonsense on crime appears to be endless.

      BP

    • @bahamaslost

We have been that “follow fashion”, “monkey see – money do” society from since I can remember. Too many followers and not enough honorable leaders.

It is so easy to follow but what does that make us as a Country? A people?

WAKE UP BAHAMAS – WAKE THE HELL UP
