Nassau, The Bahamas – A Selma Alabama native will answer to serious charges in a Bahamian Magistrate courtroom, as he was arrested on October 4th and formally charged with Causing Damage, Trespassing, Attempted Robbery and Causing Harm to his Bahamian employer.
It is alleged that Kenneth Talmadge Ross a 45 year old owner of R&R Erecting Company out of Selma, Alabama, being dismissed from a condominium development project, for physically-abusive actions towards workers on the job site and subsequently, he was charged with physically confronting the owner of the development project. Ross, whose company erects cranes to do work on high-rise buildings, is out of jail and on bail in The Bahamas.
Ross whose last address was on Paradise Island at the time of the incident had no valid work permit from the immigration department and was said to be by workers from his former employ ‘a dangerous man.’
This latest incident raises serious concerns of the safety of scores of visitors other residents living on Paradise Island. “To have around us a violent man committing alleged crimes in the country without any status is a serious problem. I am afraid for my safety now hearing how this man could still be among us.” One resident on the island told our reporter
“What is more serious here in the fact that department of immigration appears to not have the means to track undocumented workers in the country, some of which can be traced to crimes committed in the Bahamas.” The resident continued.
The Bahamas faces raising figures of violent crime associated with burglary in 2007 far beyond 2006 figures. During debate on the Juries Bill in Parliament, Minister of National Security Hon. Tommy Turnquest stressed that there is an ‘urgent need’ to bring the criminal justice system up to date.
“The Bahamas has a serious crime problem. Murder, rape, assault, armed robbery, robbery, burglary, shop breaking, theft, stolen vehicles, fraud and corruption, all feature prominently in disturbing crime trends in the country,” Minister Turnquest added.
Ross was granted bail and was ordered to return to court on November 14th to answer to the charges.
