The gates at the Big Game Club on Bimini.

Alice Town, Bimini – With the Labor Day Weekend on hand, the historic Big Game Club is attracting customers by air, by sea and with a unique tasty menu featuring a Caribbean specialty— Lionfish Nuggets.

General Manager Mike Weber said the 51-room Big Game Club is completely sold out for the end of summer Labor Day weekend, a good sign for the iconic resort and marina, which returned as a Guy Harvey Outpost last year.

“We are looking good with several bookings for 2012 all ready in place,” said Weber. “The property is really spectacular and we currently rated very high with customer reviews on the TripAdvisor service.”

Closed for two years, the Big Game Club re-opened last year following a multi-million-dollar renovation that included all guest rooms, the new Bimini Big Game Bar & Grill, the Outfitter Shop and the Gulfstream Conference Center and adjoining Hemingway’s Rum Bar and Social Lounge. Located on the main navigation channel in Bimini, The Big Game Club has again become the epicenter of water-oriented pursuits, including offshore game fishing, backcountry fishing and diving. The resort features a 75-slip marina capable of accommodating boats up to 145 feet in length.

Host to numerous major sportfishing tournaments for more than half a century, The Big Game Club in May returned to its roots as host of the Billfish Invitational, and is scheduled to become a yearly event along with other tournaments and family fun-fishing outings.

Bimini’s location along the legendary Gulfstream (a “river” of warm water) location is at the apex of a superhighway for migrating fish and acts as a kind of sushi conveyor belt carrying abundant food to the local fish. Deepwater game fish include marlin, tuna, sailfish, wahoo and swordfish, while big grouper, barracuda and schools of snapper can be found on the reefs. Bimini’s flats are home the fishermen’s favorite prey, bonefish and permit. With more than 50-record-setting catches in the waters around the island, Bimini has earned its title of Sport Fishing Capital of the World.

  1. dear fed up in response to your comment on out of town workers in bimini the last time i checked we has bahamians are free to work anywhere in the bahamas. There were only seven workers out of freeport whom wwere put in place to work along with the staff that were already there to work in unity to bring big game at the level of standard management had propose for it to be, and the proof is in the pudding because yes with the help of the bimini workers and (none bimini workers) the resort has climaxed. HAs for Mr. Webber and his co pilot Mrs.Webber whom to this day as yet to be addressed by staff her position at the resort needs to publicly apologize for the comments made about natives or his favorite words (black people) on the resort. You have come into this resort and abstract a natural resource from its root, uttered racial slurs and brought the game down. When you were introduced to the resort it was Mr. Webber as the new general manager and not Mr. and Mrs. Webber. Please lets get it right before another resort gets run down under your watch.

  2. Hi Jason, Sunshine is absolutely right with what he/she is saying there seems to be a problem Mr. Weber is having with blk ppl and yes the parents did rent the room and while the children were playing in the pool he (Mr, Weber) did inform the security that blk children were in the pool and go and take the pool toys out so that the kids can no longer play with them. It seems as if the hotel got a two for one deal with him and his wife she does not sleep and if a blk person comes on property she calls the security and lets them know that blk people are there you see Jason they have the camera monitors in there room so she has become head security. She hen pecks him and does not understand that that he is suppose to be in charge and not her. Lets not even start with the F&B manager who is a compulsive liar and has a personal agenda to fire ppl who does not agree with him. Stories being told is he fired a very good bartender for accepting drinks from a guest that had bought it for him and another one for something that happened over two months ago and told the lady at the labor board that he layed him off . You have to be here to understand the amount of atrocities this threesome (Mr. weber, his wife and Mr. Tyrone Duncombe) are committing against the workers there at the big game, it seems to really be a game. The ppl that owe the workers still owns the place and should pay them what is owed to them the only thing that changed was the property manager from Hank to Micheal. Last point here we have already figured out that they don’t want us on property we are not allowed to fish in the designated area that Hank had allocated for the natives, although a conchie joe Biminite was throwing there rod out last week and nothing was said but if they were blk it would have been another story. Now that you have started your Bahamian night lets see how that is going to go if you don’t want us on property you definitely don’t want our money there. Thank you,

  3. Jason, i regret to inform you that you have been sadly misinformed. A few questions to ask you. How much time have you spent at the big game club? Are you black or white? You seen to be so informative of whats going on at the big game club but let me clue you in on a few things you don’t know. There is definetly a problem with black ppl being on property especially the biminites, if there was no problem why would they cut the sea grape tree down? Answer, so the natives wouldn’t come on property to pick them. And by the way the natives are BLACK ppl. Or why would the security guard be instructed to take away the pool toys from a group of black children (whose parents had rented rooms there) be taken away? or why would a 7 and 8 year old boy be ran down by security because they were seen leaving with a bag of food? Or why would the staff (also BLACK) be advised that if on property when not working that they could face immidiate termination? I’m sure you have seen black ppl at big game, they were probably the workers. when you are on the outside looking in its best to find out exactly whats going on before making an assumption. There are serious Prejudice issues that needs to be addressed, cause from what i know slavery was over a long time ago!

  4. I AGREE WHEN THE HELL IS THEY GOING TO PAY THE PEOPLE. I AM ONE OF THOSE THATWORKED MY BUTT OF DAILY TO HELP WITH THE BIG GAME CLUB ALONG WITH MY DAUGHTER AND WE HAVENT HEARD NOTHING FROM THE LABOR BOARD SINCE. ITS RIDUCLOUS MAN CAUSING SOME OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE DONT WANT TO WORK BECAUSE THEY SCARED THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN.

  5. The hotel/resort has bounced back and there are lots of Bimini people working there in fact almost 90% of the staff are from Bimini. the front desk and the restaurant and housekeeping and maintenance and the dock staff are from bimini by far. the non biminites are very few. also there is no truth that black people cant b on the property. really how stupid a remark that is. but if you go on the property and gat no reason to be there why you there then? if u gat no reason to be there u could get asked to leave no matter what colour u be. but thats not anti-black thats security. bimini blacks are there every day in the restaurant eating and some go to buy bait in the shop there and there are some bimini fishing guides who are black who are there occasionally to go fishing with guests.
as for paying the people who used to work there that is an issue not for the current management as they were not round then. thats a matter beyond these people. i do not work at the property but its Bimini’s anchor property and we’re all glad its back and strong. its giving plenty BIMINI people jobs and bringing boaters BACK to Bimini.

  6. I SO HAPPY THAT THEY ADVERTISING HOW SUCCESSFUL THEY ARE. SO WHEN THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO PAY ALL THOSE WORKERS, THEIR BACK PAY? HOW COME YET AGAIN THEY HAVE MORE OUT OF TOWN WORKERS? AND DON’T SAY THAT BIMINI PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO WORK.BS.
HOW COME THIS NEW MANAGER DON’T WANT BLACK PEOPLE ON THE PROPERTY, UNLESS THEY WORK THERE? EVERYONE WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPEN TO THEM OLD CROOKS AND WHERE IS THE JUSTICE FOR THE CRAP WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING???? CAN SOMEONE SAY HANK AND SANDRA? FIND OUT SOME FACTS…. BAHAMAS. BIG GAME IS HIDING A MULTITUDE OF SINS. YES THE HOTEL IS NICE, BUT YOU NEED TO PAY THOSE PEOPLE THAT MADE IT WHAT IT IS….JUST A REMINDER
