U.S. Ambassador to The Bahamas, Nicole A. Avant Announces the Conclusion of Her Tenure

Ambassador Nicole Avant

Nassau, Bahamas — On October 27, 2011, Her Excellency Nicole A. Avant announced her upcoming departure from The Bahamas, which will end her tenure as the thirteenth United States Ambassador to The Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Ambassador Avant will depart The Bahamas by the end of the year to return to private life and devote more time to her family.

On October 22, 2009 Ambassador Avant presented her credentials to Governor General His Excellency Arthur D. Hanna. Over the last two years, Ambassador Avant has worked closely with the Government of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance five initiatives; Education, alternative energy, economic and small business development, women’s empowerment, and raising awareness about the challenges facing people with disabilities.

Ambassador Avant described her tenure in The Bahamas as a rewarding experience. “For the last two years I have had the privilege of representing my country and President Barack Obama as the Ambassador of the United States of America to The Bahamas. It has truly been an honor to serve in this beautiful country and advance our mutually beneficial partnership, which is based on a shared commitment to regional security, democratic ideals, economic and social progress, energy security and stewardship of the environment.

I am tremendously proud of what the U.S. Mission has accomplished during my tenure, particularly in assisting local communities on New Providence, Grand Bahama and in the Family Islands. Throughout my travels I have had the opportunity to meet so many Bahamians who are making a difference in society at all levels. I applaud you for your leadership and your investment in the future of The Bahamas. You are true Ambassadors.

On behalf of my husband Ted Sarandos and our children Sarah and Tony, I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to the Governor General, Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, the government and the people of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas for your warmth, hospitality and friendship over the last two years. We will always have a great affection for The Bahamas and will consider it our second home.”

Editor’s NOTE: Ambassador please send us those two BLACKHAWK Helicopters to help combat CRIME in the Bahamas! 1. The time went by too quickly, really wish it was much longer in this intance. We have had our share of US Ambassadors and Lord knows some of them didn’t leave much to be desired, I feel as though Her Excellency Nicole A. Avant was the best US Ambassador this country have seen to date. I wonder who are they going to send now, I hope the person be just as sweet as her and down to earth. It sure is a big shoes to fill. She was a very pleasant lady and not hard to get along with and she represented the Obama’s Administration very well. I don’t know where Bush find those other Ambassadors he sent here.

    • Hmmmm did you just awake for a deep sleep ? best US Ambassador this country have seen to date ? Are you sure you are from the Bahamas ? if so think back to the 50’s 60’s and 70’s

      • I am not able to give account for that time frame you mentioned, because I was not in existence until the late 70s. This is just my personal opinion from what I am familiar with. Well, if we had other great ones, big up to them too!

        • Well Kim, when someone make a comment, they should KNOW a little about history, Bahamians have enjoyed the pleasure of many great US Ambassadors, I’m to old to recall the names of them, and again kim options sometimes need research, Oh I’m a senior.

          • If you had read my comment in it’s entirety you would have noticed that I did not state that as a fact. I said that was the way I felt and even if I were to research past US Ambassadors that were here before that still would not change the way I feel, because I was not around to witness them in action and anybody could write anything down in history. I am only giving my opinion pertaining to the ones I know about. Anyway, you sound like you looking for talks. That’s no problem, everybody enjoys talking to me. That’s just the effect I have on most people you know. Trust me, I understand.
