If you walked along the waterfront this morning this was the condition it was in. NASTY, DIRTY and GARBAGE LEFT EVERYWHERE by the vendors who occupied the area!

Look at the CITY OF NASSAU left behind by the vendors!

Nassau, Bahamas –– CITY DUMP = It is in the city [Nassau] and the vendors left the wharf like a dump!Who in the hell is managing this city?

This was the condition of the wharf just behind Bay Street in the City of Nassau this morning as six cruise ships were docked in the harbour, with thousands of tourist talking pictures.

The DAMN NASTY VENDORS in the city left the city like a DUMP SITE!

One man cleaning the garbage found a bucket filled with feces in it. SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO DAMN SHAME! EVERY ONE Of DEM VENDORS SHOULD BE KICKED OUT OF THAT NEW STRAW MARKET and be forced to clean up the garbage left behind! Better yet, every vendor on the wharf should be fined by an environmental court!

DINGY DUTTY AND DOWNRIGHT NASTY!!!!

Garbaged down town left all along the waterfront.
Boy BP is HOT! Every Straw Vendor should be thrown out of the new Straw Market.

  1. It’s not the responsibility of MOE to clean up the straw vendors’ mess. They knew what to expect, and manage to “organize” when they’re whining to government about something. They should have hired Bahamas Waste Management in advance. If MOE deal with it, the taxpayer is footing the bill. We should still be upset over the cost of keeping the “law breakers” out of prison in the US. Also, I was a tourist decades ago and the strawmarket in the seventies was very nice, even though it was outside and fairly primitive. (Progress doesn’t mean something gets “better” if the people given the opportunity don’t care to live up to expectation.) Nearly everything was handmade on site, and the vendor even sewed names on straw dolls and a clutch purse (lined) for me, at no extra charge. These ladies were friendly ambassadors of the Bahamas, and proud of their handcrafted merchandise. Please lets keep it CLEAN and AUTHENTIC.

  5. I disagree with garbageman’s criticism. MOE could n’t have anticipated this, and have had enough stress dealing with the effects of Hurricane Irene for months. The straw vendors own their businesses and it’s THEIR duty to ensure the move went smoothly. They manage to “organize” when they are whining about something to our government, so why couldn’t they get together and pay for Bahamas Waste to remove their trash? If MOE pay for it then it’s Bahamian taxpayer money, and we should already be upset over what was spent getting the vendors who broke the law back home from the US. I was a tourist here decades ago and the original strawmarket was wonderful. It was full of friendly ladies actively making and offering authentic merchandise. I purchased a straw clutch purse (fully lined) and some straw dolls for my neices. The vendor was even happy to sew names on to each doll. We need to go back to the same thing. Shame on any ladies selling fakes and imports. PLEASE KEEP IT AUTHENTIC and CLEAN.

  6. They are just horrible. I give that new straw market a year. By April 2012 there will be more rats that vendors. They are just so shameful. There is nothing decent about them and they are the first to cry out for help. When you go in the market if you don’t buy something they will give you the worst attitude you can’t imagine. They have filthy mouths, they are ghetto and illiterate and because there life styles are deplorable they keep their environment the same way. Must the government tell a grown adult not to sh*t in a bucket and leave it Down Town? They are some untrained animals. Must the government tell an adult to throw away the soda can after they have finished drinking? These things are common sense. These females are not lady like one bit and they aren’t trying to hide that.I took some of my visiting friends to the straw market a few months ago when it was under the tent and they basically ran out from under there. First off those “gals” don’t speak English: Gimmi 5 dollars man thine nutthing…. what???? Atleast speak some basic english. I am not surprised at all at what they left behind. That’s their way of saying what they will do with the new start market. Like I said before I give it a year.

  7. WHY DO I HAVE A FEELING THAT MOST OF THIS FILTH WAS LEFT BY THOSE NASTY ASS HAITIANS WHO ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

  8. I live in a real world and fully understand that these vendors expects the government to fully cater to their childish actions…….

go away, involve yourself in illegal activities and get the country to bail you out ‘free of charge’

make a big profit; don’t pay national insurance, rent or put anything aside for emergencies yet you expect the government to bail you out everytime….and for everything.

Please remove the political handouts and allow these people to operate as normal humans,,, on their own. those who can’t let them sink!!!!! simple!!!!!

this social net must be removed if this nation is to move ahead… let us rid the nation of all nasty, lazy, giveme this and giveme that idiots and any political orginization that encourages such slackness.

  9. When I return to Nassau in April, I won’t be shopping at the New Straw Market – if they can’t have any more respect for the City of Nassau than to leave a mess like that, they don’t deserve business from tourists.

  10. Wow! what a bunch of nasties. Yet they want to go in clean marketplace and filthy as can be. Ladies you are Ladies and should be the epitome of fresh and clean as a DAISY. The Government and you a your leader should have organized a pick up time before the c/ships came in. You in your new marketplace and you’ll stil complaining but spot. Bahamians humble yourself Grand Bahama vendors don’t even see A cruise ship at all. You’ll probably need to taste and feel what these poor Mamas go through in Freeport without a sale a day. Be Clean and Grateful Mamas !

  11. THOSE NASTY BITCHES…COULD YOU IMAGINE WHAT THEIR HOMES LOOK LIKE…..THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT USE TO ANYTHING….GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE DONE A SELECTION AND SCREENING PROCESS..COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW FILTHY THEIR HOMES ARE! NASTY!NASTY!NASTY!

  12. Goverment should make it mandatory that only native straw is to be sold in the straw market.I’m a producer of straw hats here in Grand Bahama.I haven’t sold one hat for the opening of the straw market and I don’t see a native hat on a stall. Is it a Bahamian Straw Market or Haiten and Phillipino? I admonish the vendors to treat the strawmarket as your home.Dont allow an MP to have to come and clean your dirt.Remember cleanliness is next to Godliness.

  13. Can’t we leave politics out of this? The thing is it needs to be cleaned up it doesn’t matter by whom. Like my late grandmother used to say we too like to count work. This is exactly the need for there to be a city of Nassau with a proper council and mayor. I agree that it should not have been left like this but its spilled milk. Lets get it cleaned up and stop continuously degrading our own people. You ever been to the markets in Greece or China? They are true markets and talk about mess. But there are means to deal with via city management. Honestly we behave like we are so elite in this country and some of us don’t have a sh%&t. Many good Bahamian families come right out of the Straw Market. I mean honest, hardworking people. People who’s children and grandchildren turn out to be in very high places in this country I might add. But they forget. They forget the struggle their grandmothers in particular went through to get them where they are. Years of insults and condescending higher ups. To be honest the whites in this country treated vendors better. At least Sir Roland and the white knights saw the economic possibilities of the market. Its only the black fools who scorn where they come from. Leave the politics out of it please. Lets work together instead of the constant insults.

    • talk about degrading our own people, who you callin black “FOOLS”? Catch yourself. Try expressing your thoughts another way. As my grandmother used to say, There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

  14. We (Yes, I said it – WE) Bahamians MUST do better than this. I fear that the same mindset that allowed this deplorable condition to exist will be taken into the new facility. Surely everybody concerned knew that there would be a mess that would need cleaning up immediately. In some other places there would have been a crew working overnight, and in the morning you would not have a clue what had transpired. They will need serious monitoring and enforcement of standards – not only now when the market is new, but continuously, until there is a culture of cleanliness among the vendors and those charged with maintenance of the market.

  15. Get them a garbage bin? What a bunch of crap!! How in the world is the government responsible for that? When I moved I had to figure it out. They are not special!!! What they are is nasty! They should all be fined. This is what our tourist saw. The same tourist that they want to buy their goods. Stop making excuses for these nasty people.

  16. What is in store is the same crap that was in the old market Despite the building looking great and a lot of stalls not being taken there is the usual not made in the Bahamas articles masquerading a authentic No knock off designer bags but plenty Fillipino and Haitian straw

  17. this is how they are going to treat their island and they will make the tourist think different hope they keep the new one differently

  18. And they were “offended” by the cleanliness clauses in the Staw Market Act. Chippie will need to run that market tight.

    • Don’t blame them. If U moving or reparing what do you do? Das right, GET A BIN. where is the MOVABLE GARBAGE BIN to accomodate these people. Another gov’t oversight. No accountant knows about opening and processing 650 vendors into a new location.. This is over their F&M head(s).

      • I LAY THE BLAME TOTALLY ON MELONY MCKENZIE, DIRECTOR OF ENVIROMENTAL HEALTH.
THIS TRANSITION WAS ANNOUNCIATED BY THE MINISTER AND SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE HER DUE DILIGENCE IN ANTICIPATION OF THIS MATTER., I HOPE SHE DONT SLEEP AT THE WHEEL WITH THE UPCOMMING JUNKANOO!!!!!!!
