THE RT. HON. PERRY G. CHRISTIE

AT OPENING OF

YAMACRAW CONSTITUENCY HEADQUARTERS
FEBRUARY 13th, 2012

I’m so happy to be here in the East with you tonight!

Hello, Yamacraw!

Are you ready for a new day?

Are you ready for a government that will believe in you?

Are you ready for a government that will put Bahamians first?

It’s so wonderful to see you out in such great numbers in support of your Member of Parliament for Yamacraw, the one and only Melanie Griffin!

Melanie is a fighter. She’s been fighting for you, the people of Yamacraw, for a long time now. She’s been on your side, through thick and thin. She’s been there for you each step of the way. She’s been your good and faithful servant in good times and in bad.

Many of you joined us last Friday night, when we launched our candidates. With thousands cheering us on in the hall and with bumper-to-bumper traffic stretching all the way from the Hilton on Bay Street to the Crystal Palace, we introduced a new generation of leaders to the Bahamian people.

This new generation is bringing their energy and new ideas, joining with seasoned veterans like Melanie Griffin. Together it’s a great combination to help bring about a brighter future for The Bahamas.

Together, were going to bring about less crime and more jobs.

The FNM has it backwards: they gave you more crime, and fewer jobs!

They got it all wrong!

Brave Davis told Yamacraw the FNM is on the run.

They haven’t been listening.

The Prime Minister has ears on the side of his head like everyone else but his ears don’t seem to be working at all! The man has become stone-deaf

If he would just listen, maybe – just maybe – he would know that Bahamians want a government that believes in them – a government that will listen to you, invest in you, and put you first.

That’s the message our people want their leaders to hear, and that’s what they want their government to do.

But look what our people are getting instead : dirty politics….vendettas…..throwing lowness…..that’s the Prime Minister’s specialty. He spends such an incredible amount of time travelling down the low road of Bahamian politics. In fact, he doesn’t even seem to know that there is a high road!

But you know as well as I do that the low road is no place to be. It’s no place to be because it won’t take us where we need to be as a nation.

Being nasty and being arrogant isn’t the same thing as being right.

And in all the big ways that matter most to Bahamians, Hubert Ingraham is dead wrong!

He’s wrong not to invest in people; wrong to tell Bahamians they need not apply; wrong to stop, review and cancel all the great projects the PLP left in place.

"WIn Lose or Draw I staying with Yamacraw" Griffin tells constituency.

He was wrong was wrong on BTC. He was wrong on the Arawak Cay Port. He was wrong to end Witness Protection and he was wrong to hire foreign contractors to build Bahamian roads.

We need to take a different path. We need to work together for safer streets, more secure homes, and greater prosperity for all.

So, let’s leave Hubert Ingraham behind on the low road as we go about the urgent task of rebuilding our country. We need to rebuild it so that it can become a safer and more prosperous place for ourselves and for our children.

Melanie Griffin can be counted upon to be in the forefront of that struggle for a better Bahamas. When Melanie was in my Cabinet, she worked hard for Bahamians every day. All that training in the straw market with her mother, Telator Strachan, made her understand the value of hard and honest labour. That’s why she works so hard for you – day in and day out.

As Minister for Social Services, Melanie fought for all Bahamians, but she worked particularly hard for our most vulnerable citizens, for children and senior citizens and the disabled and troubled young people.

PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts

She focused on protecting children, reducing domestic violence, and helping at-risk youth get the support they need.

Under her leadership as Minister of Social Services, the PLP had one of the most socially active legislative agendas in the modern history of our country.

Yes, Melanie works hard for you. And with your continued support, she’ll be back to continue working hard for you over the next five years.

Bahamians everywhere are tired of Hubert Ingraham and his FNM Government. Tired of a government that doesn’t believe in Bahamians anymore; tired of a government that doesn’t listen to them; tired of a government that ignores them; tired of a government that has no faith in its own people. That’s why it’s time for them to go!

And in place of the FNM, Bahamians are ready for a government that will put put Bahamians first! Only the PLP can make that a reality. And with your help we will!

YAMACRAW, DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES?

YAMACRAW, DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE BAHAMAS?

YAMACRAW, ARE YOU READY FOR A NEW DAY?

THEN JOIN WITH ME, JOIN WITH MELANIE GRIFFIN, JOIN WITH THE PLP AS WE MOVE FORWARD IN UNITY TO A GREATER DAY, A BETTER DAY, A SAFER DAY, A MORE PROSPEROUS DAY FOR ALL BAHAMIANS!

PLP! PLP! PLP……..ALL THE WAY

Hundreds of PLPs parked blocks away in Yamacraw last night to back PLP candidate Melanie Griffin. A Tsunami of supporters braced the bitter cold to hear the CDR. Fred Mitchell, Hope Strachan, Ryan Pinder and Gregory Burrows all addressed the gathering.

  1. BP you mean to tell me after 5 years the member for Yamacraw is now opening “CONSTITUENCY HEADQUARTERS.” The people of Yamacraw deserve better if this is in fact the case.
