Police makes 70 arrests overnight in a takedown on crime

POLICE CONDUCTS MAJOR OPERATION THAT LEADS TO 71 ARRESTS

Super COP of Police, Ellison Greenslade bring peace back to the streets but must now enlist the entire country to get involve and be on the lookout for criminals - POLICE MUST INTRODUCE 24-HOUR TEXT and BLOG LINES to MONITOR CRIME SITUATION 24 X 7.

In keeping with the Commissioner’s policing plan, which speaks to Tackling Crime and Allaying the fear of Crime, a large team of officers led by Assistant Commissioner Leon Bethel overnight successfully conducted an island-wide Operation code named ‘Operation South Heat’ with a number of arrests being made.

The operation that targeted problem locations and persons engaged in criminal activity such as, armed robberies, rape, shootings, stolen vehicle, and drugs, began enforcement efforts on the evening Thursday Wednesday 9th January 2013 and concluded on the morning of Thursday 10th January 2013 with several notable successes.

The operation produced the following statistics:

40 – Arrests for questioning reference to Dangerous Drugs and Firearms

20 – Arrests for Stolen Vehicle

8 – Arrests for Outstanding Criminal Warrants

1 – Arrest for Unlawfully Carrying Arms

1 – Arrest for House Breaking

1 – Arrest for Assault
52 – Drivers were cited for various traffic violations

Police credits the success of this operation to excellent teamwork, intelligence led policing, good execution of a policing plans and support from members of the public

NORTHEASTERN DIVISION OFFICERS MAKE DRUG ARREST

A 23-year old man is in custody after police arrested him for Possession of Dangerous

Drugs on Wednesday 9th January 2013.

According to police reports, around 9:00pm officers from the Northeastern Division were on patrol on Blue Sky Lane off Abraham Street when they observed the suspect acting suspiciously. The officers conducted a search of the suspect and found a quantity of suspected marijuana in his possession. The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

Investigations are ongoing.

MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS MAKE FIREARMS ARREST

A 47-year old man of Mackey Street is in custody after police arrested him for possession of an unlicensed firearm on Wednesday 9th January 2013.

According to police reports, around 10:50pm officers from the Mobile Division were on patrol on Palm Beach Street when they observed the suspect acting suspiciously. The officers conducted a search of the suspect and found an unlicensed shotgun in his possession. The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

Investigations are ongoing.

R. B. DEFENSE FORCE OFFICERS ARRESTS US CITIZEN FOR FAILING TO DECLARE FIREARMS

A 60-year old man from the United States is in custody after officers from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force arrested him at Nassau Harbour for Failing to Declare on Wednesday 9th January 2013.

According to Police reports, around 11:30pm a team of Officers from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force Harbour Patrol Unit acting on information conducted a search of a 45 foot vessel moored at Nassau Harbour and found two (2) handguns, two (2) shotguns, one (1) rifle and a large quantity of ammunition. The 60-year old male owner of the vessel was taken into custody for failing to declare the firearms and handed over to the Police.

Police investigations are ongoing.
