Nassau, Bahamas — Bahamas Press tonight concedes defeat in the National Referendum held today.
We believe today the Bahamian people elected to not approve a National Lottery nor to regulate the “Numbers” operations in the Bahamas.
Today we believe it is a sad day. However, the voice of the people is indeed the voice of God.
We congratulate the Bahamian people for their participation in what was indeed a life changing democratic exercise powered by the people.
Today’s vote must mean that the influential Christian Council will now turn their guns on the operating casinos. Today’s decisions must leave casino operators troubled tonight; from Grand Bahama to Exuma.
We believe the time has come for those in power in the country to move quickly and take the necessary steps and commit to the will of the Bahamian people.
We congratulate Members of the Free National Movement, Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis, Rt. Hon. Hubert Alexander Ingraham, The Christian Council, Kevin Harris and the media on their victory tonight!
We congratulate most of all the Bahamian people for their decision.
