Retired public servant dies following serious heart condition while in hospital

Nassau, Bahamas — Bahamas Press is reporting the passing of the country’s former Financial Secretary in the office of the Prime Minister, Ehurd Cunningham.

Cunningham suffered from a heart condition and underwent a double bypass surgery this past Tuesday. He died late yesterday evening.

The best man and longtime friend of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Hubert Ingraham, Cunningham in January 2009 was appointed to the post of Acting Financial Secretary.

He was a member of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, as he held a Diploma in Financial Analysis and Policy from the International Monetary Fund Institute.

He was also a former Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Finance, Vice President: British American Insurance Company Limited, President: Britam Insurance Brokers and Agents, Director and CEO: Security and General Insurance Company, Secretary for Revenue: Ministry of Finance and served on numerous Boards in both the Private and Public Sectors.

He retired from the Public Service in December 2012.
