WHO WILL BECOME THE NEXT MISS BAHAMAS —

Nassau, Bahamas – The year was 1963 when the government of the Bahamas officially established a ministry to market the country to the world in response to a rapidly growing tourism industry. At that same time, the nation’s foremost beauty ambassadors began taking the message of The Bahamas to the world’s leading international beauty pageants. Now, 50 years later, a number of festivities are being planned to commemorate what is being termed “The Golden Era”.

The Bahamas is once again positioning itself to be a favorite at the Miss Universe pageant – to be held in Moscow, Russia on November 9th– with the staging of this year’s Miss Universe Bahamas Pageant featuring eight of the country’s most beautiful women. However, this time around, pageant watchers are confident that the results will be different. The Exquisite Eight delegates were presented to the public during a launch party on Wednesday, August 21 at The Nassau Florist and JW Events (formerly Gaylord’s) on Dowdeswell Street. The gala reception kicked off a number of national events to celebrate five decades of pageantry and tourism in The Bahamas.

On Saturday August 24th, the traditional float parade will take place, however this year will see a return of the once popular National Costume competition. Delegates will wear their costumes on the parade which will culminate at Pompey Square on Bay Street with the judging of the national costume show. A special award will be presented to the delegate with the best costume and most beautiful float. Sunday August 31st, will be the first round of judging for the delegates with the Swimsuit and Evening Gown Competitions to be held at The Official Home of the Miss Universe Bahamas Beauty Pageant – The Balmoral Club on Sandford Drive. The pageant finale is set for one week later – September 8th, at the Atlantis Resort’s Grand Ballroom on Paradise Island.

The Exquisite Eight delegates have just completed weeks of grooming and coaching as participants of the Miss Bahamas Enrichment Program. The ladies were taught everything from the pursuit of purpose to etiquette and social graces by several leading Bahamians during the intensive program. This group of young ladies, although comparatively small in number, is being described as the most competitive ever, promising pageant goers a unforgettable pageant season and an incredible finale showdown.
