<<< Bradley Roberts blasts Tommy Turnquest off a school repair site.
Bahamas Press has learned former Minister of Works, Bradley Roberts, will once again run for Chairman of the Progressive Liberal Party.
Sources deep in the PLP tell us, “Roberts is the man, and like Hubert, he’s back! We’ve been working on his’ return from May 2, 2007 and finally, he has decided to give us front line artillery support.”
It is believed with Roberts’ return, a sweeping political machine with grab hold of the party, including a host of political writers and foot soldiers, who will move into the engine of the PLP and awake the sleeping political giant.
Roberts team landed him the name ‘BIG BAD BRAD’ in Bahamian politics, as he lead the PLP into victory as Chairman in 2002. Prior the PLP’s win, Robert unveiled a series of documents in the Parliament on LONG ISLAND. Things were quite calm in the House until back then, he charged that the Cabinet of Prime Minister Ingraham knew about drug activity in Long Island in 1997 and its connection to the construction and licensing of a hotel project in Morrisville. He charged that the FNM approved the project knowing its drug connection.
Those were fighting words for an FNM Government, which back then managed to portray itself as squeaky clean political organization. Roberts proved opposite when Ingraham challenged him to produce the evidence. In response, Roberts laid on the table of the House a heap of documents that had been circulated around The Bahamas.
‘BIG BAD BRAD‘ Roberts, then turned his CANNON GUN on FNM front line politicians and began to bury them one by one. From Tommy and Dion with the school contract scandals, to Brent Symonette and the airport contract sandal, Roberts buried them all, but did not seal their political coffins.
Another source in the belly of the party says, “We had Roberts in our Parliamentary meeting on Sunday, and boy all we saw was blood in his eyes. This time Roberts says he’s coming back to seal their political coffins for good.”
Big Bad Brad is on Gems Fm right now carrying on bad, lol.
Hmmppph i always thought that it was 1-1 and the decider to be determined next Gen Elections.I recall that HAI was the co-featured speaker at all the FNM rallys in 2002 and whenever Tommy the tapper came onto speak the majority of the crowd left so he spoke to a sparse crowd.HAI is still the big dog in the FNM and no johhny come lately can outshine him in that party.Its HAI and Christie next Gen Elects ,anyone who dares to openly challenge Chtistie is finished.I listened to PC on tell it like it is and he seems to have developed fire in his belly.Boy BP look at what you have created,that man is smarting which aint good.
Perry beat Hubert in 2002….
David, The prime minister just barely scrapped the last win. The way saunders beach will morph into this unsightly, grotesque, island of containers after that 72 acres extension. And after those poor residents in marina vista, would have endured the heavy trucks, racing up and down their once quiet neighbour hood.
After the thousands of bahamians have lost one of the last remaining public beach, and after all those numbered casuarina trees would have been cut, reminiscent of orange hill, with no shade. That alone will be a guaranteed cut hip for the fnm!
After we have seen what has transpired in the last 2yrs, i shuuder to think of what the fnm is going to do to us in the ensuing 3yrs.
@Altec
But Altec, I thought Tommy did run but he just got his socks beat off!!
Remember though, HI had told him that as long as he is the leader, he will NOT run against him.. HI did not even give Tommy a fighting chance because he told him just a day before he was nominated that he (HI) will NOT run for the leadership roll of the party… That was simply just a NASTY thing to do to Tommy and a big LIE on HI’s behalf but we are all used to that…
But the even NASTIER thing was that Tommy let HI pull the rug out from underneath him and when he fell he started kissing HI from his feet straight up to his cheeks!! Then to make matters worse, he allowed HI to call he and Dion up on the stage during his victory speech and made a mockery of them… I agree with you that Tommy is finished as a leader unless it is handed to him after someone else wins the election!! Tommy can still sneak in through the backdoor!!
I still think that HI promised Tommy the deputy position in the party this term so I suspect either at this convention or the next, Tommy will get the chance to be second in command!! And I do believe that that’s the reason why Tommy accepted what was done to him.. Tommy sold out his soul to the DEVIL!!!
@Objective thought
OT, the chairman/woman should not be a sitting member of parliament. That person should only be focused on the party’s internal matters, developing the branches, developing the youth arm, pushing and defending the party’s agenda.
The PM cant be involved in the bulk of those matters becuse he has a legisltive agenda he is trying to push and dealing with the country’s problems. Thats why a competent Chairman/woman is the most important person to any PM politically.
Rigby was a failure! Bradly Roberts turn over to him a finely tuned car and he failed to maintain it. Like i said earlier about Glennis, she simply has too much on her plate.
Regarding HAI comeback: i lost all respect for Tommy after HAI came back. Remember how Tommy was all over the radio telling people its his time. A soon as HAI show up the man didnt even fight for his leadership position he just turned it over.
Now if he truly believed that it was his time, at the least he should have at made HAI run agianst him for leader and let the chips fall where they may, but the man folded his tent without a peep. Sometimes you have too defend whats yours, Tommy never did that. Rather than fight, he surrendered. If Tommy cant fight for himself, then he cant be my PM.
Tommy is done! he, like his father, will never be PM.
BOY OBJECTIVE THOUGHT YOU REALLY HITTING IT HARD ……U COMIN ON STRONG,STRONG…BUT…I KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE A CHANGE IN SHORT ORDER,AND IT IS GOING TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY RISE TO ANOTHER LEVEL.
SO GET READY FOR THE CHANGE!!!!!!
Amen Trinity… And I just had a conversation with a strong FNM today who feels like the PLP can win the next election… That’s only because he does not feel like HI is doing a good job… To think just 2 short years ago, he thought that HI was the best thing since slice bread!!
He is still an FNM though but who knows what the next 3 years will bring…
Well, I don’t care if LOP comes back to be chairman, once our LOUSY chairlady is removed!!!
You asked who is behind Brad’s return??? I’ll tell you.. Mrs. Martin’s LOUSY leadership!!!! If she was doing a good job, there would be no need for Brad’s return!! Kinda like the same reason HI returned!!!
And just for the record, I will say this again.. I did not have a problem with HI coming back.. What I had a problem with is the way he deceived Tommy T and Dion and then laughed in their faces!!!
I can’t see how anyone can support HI!!! The man thinks he is untouchable!!
@canesfins
But that was when HI had more respect for what he had done!!! This term is completely different and HI is more on the level of PC now!! HI aint up on that plateau anymore!! He has come down to earth and is just a regular man again…

The bloggers on this site may be outnumbered by the general population, but who are the general population? They are the people losing their jobs everyday because of ineffective governance and even worse economic policy. They are the people who were forced into early retirement. They are the people who were victimized because of party affiliation. They are the people losing their jobs and contracts to foreigners. They are the people that can no longer afford to keep their children in private schools and universities. They are the people losing their cars and their homes. They are the countless affected small business owners. They are the people affected by the poor performance of a politically divided RBDF. They are the people seeing their neighborhoods torn and ravaged by crime. They are the people who have seen the rapid deterioration of every facet of our society. The makers and breakers of the ‘trust agenda’ and Mr Proven Leadership are failures…..FAILURES. To think of even suggest that the next election will be an easy win is nothing less than idiotic. You people need to understand that BP is a voice, but it is not the voice of the Bahamian people. So you who say that you know the feeling of the general population, find yourself amongst a significant amount of people and test the waters…..
Boy this is good reading,so I must add my five cent. I Like Brad alot and as a young voter enjoyed Brads controbutions for years, However I believe that the PLP has many up and comming Leaders who can hold the forth as Chairman. J.F Ken Dorsett,Ryan Pinder even Alfred Gray or Frank Smith but for God sake Brad should just enjoy retirment.
I wounder who is behind bringing Brad back anyway??????
I agree that there is a swing in the country,but people must have somewhere to swing. In Politics we must all admitt HAI is a master and will not be beaten easy.
HAI is rapidly getting back to his status in 2002 as the most hated man in the Bahamas.
pc will not beat hai. he is not wanted by the voting people. the bloggers here are outnumbered by the general population
How many times has PC and HAI went head to head in a general election?
ONCE.
So because HAI beat PC that one time in 2007 its suddenly set in stone that PC can never ever beat HAI? Sorry media, we can not “agree Christie cannot beat Hubert”
I vividly remember no one saying PC cant be HAI in 2007. No one was saying it. As a matter of fact the opposite was said, it was PC saying he never lost an election. Now since May 2nd, folks like yourself and others have latched on to this untruth that HAI is unbeatable. Total hogwash.
Media your comparison of Cecil vs Pindling to PC v HAI is a bad comparison because Cecil got beat more than once by Pindling and beaten pretty bad. How many times has HAI beaten PC? ONCE. Last time i checked, one occurrence is hardly a trend.
HAI victory wasnt decisive as you might want people to believe. He didnt even get 50% of the total vote and its not as if his holding on to power is guaranteed. If Pindling could get beat, so can HAI. Like i told you in a previous post (https://www.bahamaspress.com/?p=5594), the PLP will in all likelihood hold on to their seats in the house; but many of the FNM first time MP’s are vulnerable.
Media you trying to make it sound like HAI has a track record of beating PC. Maybe i was taken up by a spaceship when the 2 and 3 time PC and HAI went head to head and HAI won. To say PC cant beat HAI based on one head to head match up is pure nonsense!
Keep hating Media… You will soon find out that you are NOT GOD!!!!
You will soon learn that there is a first time for EVERYTHING!!!
It seems as though you and some others think that it does not matter what HI does or doesn’t do the FNM still will beat PLP??? Yall must think that BAHAMIANS are really STUPID!!!
On this site I have heard you write more good things about PC than about HI but yet you say that PC cannot beat HI… I tell you, I am once again totally confused!! PC must have really hurt you in the past because your stories just don’t add up!!
JR – one thing you are not understanding – the PLP lost in 2007 and PC didnt beat HI.
BP i agree with you. Christie could never beat HAI. i am serious. see in 1997 pindling was still the most popular plp in the plp. not on the outside. he run and lost big. the same will happen if christie runs again. the people are saying it is time to go. just go man, and take bj, big bad brad, mother and oswlad with you
@JR
Well think about it JR Perry is still popular and Pindling is even more popular. So what’s the difference? But you all will learn and learn the hard way, just how Cecil could never beat Pindling, we must agree, Christie cannot beat Hubert!
Bahamas Press/Editor
Altec, don’t you know its just like BP to find a way to wiggle a Perry diss into any story? One thing that I think BP keeps overlooking is the fact that as leader, Christie is still popular with the people. Nobody else in the PLP has that kind of appeal, whether you think he’s weak or not. That is a reality that cannot be denied no matter how chummy he is with Hubert or how late or how slow or whatever he is. Even if there was a challenge to him in October, do you really think the PLP will have the same chance of winning without him at the head? Especially if Hubert runs again? You don’t have to be a fan of Perry to understand that reality but some people carry different agendas whenever they talk about the PLP. Brad would be perfect for the PLP at this time but overall, the PLP will be in serious jeopardy of losing younger people if you end up with a scenario of Perry, BJ and Brad as the top three. Three 60+ with almost 100 years in Parliament does not sound like change.
Maybe BP can discuss that point. How is it good for change to have Perry gone but yet, you endorse having Bradley back? Are you in favor of Brad in, Perry out? Explain.
And according to another web site, the PLP has appointed a candidates committee. Will be interesting times as the party approached convention.
David this is a national thing. I guess you did not read the Tribune where Mr. Frank Watson said that none of the young MPs in the FNM were ready, not even Tommy Turnquest and that they are praying that Mr. Ingraham returns. You may as well come with an objective thought because it is the same in both parties. If Mr. Roberts still thinks that he has a contribution to make to his party that so be it. Mr. Frank Watson came out of retirement and is now the Chairman at the Airport.
I am an avid fan of Glennys Hanna Martin so if she agrees to step down and let Roberts take charge then I have no difficulty with that happening.For the charge to be made that she has caused chaos in the PLP branches is ludricous.From my observation she is bringing things in order and many who want their own way are having great difficulty adjusting.HAI is a street politician and thats why I love challengintg him so he should have no lost of sleep when the Roberts machine tackles the dog kennel.It was a mistake when Roberts retired but he is needed now to go against the Chairman of the FNM who is mortally wounded after failing to secure the continuance of his brother as COP.Sir Lynden had AD Hanna and milo butler and Chairman Maynard so its only fair that Christie get Roberts.
@objective thought
how in the hell if you acknowledge that perry christie is weak leader, can you talk about him needing a strong deputy.
if he is weak, he needs to go. please remove your head from the sand.
people like you are why the PLP will be on the outside looking in for a long time. big bad brad or not.
HUH? DID I MIS READ THIS STORY?
THIS STORY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERRY CHRISTIE!!!
Your own post doesnt even mention PC. The subject of this post is about the OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN in the PLP and in order to discuss it objectively one has to mention the former and current chairs and assess their performance as well.
Now if you want to call it “attacking” when accessing the current and former chairmans performance then thats your right, but its a total mis-characterization. If you think PC bears all the blame for the loss in 2007 then i have to question your own COCKEYEDNESS.
I compared Mr Roberts and his previous stint as chairman leading up to May 2002, to that of Raynard Rigby (his successor) and Glenis (the current chairwoman) and its no secret that Raynard was in over his head and Glennis just has too much on her plate.
Tell me Media, did Rigby do a great job as chairman? Does he bear any blame for the party’s lack luster operation in the run up to the 2007 general election? Do you think Glennis can give 100% of her time and energy to chairman’s functions? Come one man!
Now i didnt know that when you posted about the office of chairman that it was a signal to take shots at PC. I also didnt know that when discussing the office of party chair that i wasnt suppose to mention the previous and current office holders or make a judgment about their performance.
I and some of the other commentators on this blog have told you before that your hatred towards PC is obvious and dilutes the integrity of this blog. Whatever gone down between you and PC needs to stay between you and PC.
To say “BUT NOT A DAMN WORD about Christie!” when Christie isnt even the subject of the post is baffling to me and says something about your undying hatred towards PC. Its your objectivity that will come into question when you keeping mentioning PC on posts where he isnt even the subject!
You are wrong!
Media, Glennys became chairlady almost a year and a half ago and all she had done by the time convention was due last october was cause trouble in the party but she wisely used the recession to postpone the convention to this year.. Now all of a sudden she is running to and fro to get our constituiencies in order when she promised from last year February that that would be first on her agenda!! I just want Mrs. Martin GONE, GONE, GONE!!!
I keep telling you that PC needs a stronger deputy which is why Mother Pratt has to go!!! PC is weak when it comes to punishing people so he needs someone who has NO problem dealing with issues.. I don’t trust anyone else in parliament right now accept BJ to become the deputy leader of the PLP!!
@David
Neither will they in the FNM!!! Why is HI back??? Because it’s about WINNING and NOT about any particular individual!!!
Brad is a walking data base whose experience is invaluable. He needed the break and I’m glad to hear he’s coming back frontline; however David has a legitamite concern too, I do not believe the continual recycling of leaders is the way forward for the Bahamas but who is to say once they reach 60 or 65 yrs of age they should retire from frontline politics. If we observe United States senatorial tenures, some of them run until they are immobile or sick with diseases, Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd and prime examples. The notion that when you reach 60 or 65 signals retirement is flawd.
On the interrum I believe both political parties are not making enough room for future growth. With Ingraham still the captian of the FNM and Christie the captain of the PLP we can only go the heights we have already soared. People like Bran Mcartney and Jerome Fritzgerald should be in successorship positions to signal continuity. It may be but I don’t see it!
We need an infusion of life in Bahamian politics…
@Altec
Now Altec it is indeed INCREDIBLE to see how some of you all praise the notion that Roberts will return. And it is equally incredible to see how attacks comes with mentioning the names of the former and current chairs. BUT NOT A DAMN WORD about Christie! NOT a pimpslap! Nothing! Nothing about his weakness, but plenty about the others? YALL COCKEYED BAD!
YINNA can’t be serious! I could see yinner totting Christie to the podium right now come this OCTOBER, whilst at the same time yall cuss him under ya breathe. One thing is sure, BP ain’t ga purge!
BP/Editor
Bradly Roberts has much more weight in the party than Glennis and without a doubt Rigby. I think the chairman/woman should be someone who has gravitas, strong reputation and not afraid to put people in their place.
It makes his/her job easier because he/she commands and has earned that respect.
Rigby never had that respect and Glenis simply cant be dealing with HOA matters and matters that pertain to the party as chairwoman. Media, i hope this is true.
@BP
thank you God. finally someone who can go toe to toe with Ingraham. I thought I would die of boredom before the next election. now Bradley Roberts can show these soft boys in the PLP how it is done!
@tristan
stop showing off, bout your multi million dollar company.
@media
As a young PLP, I have no problem with this if it is true.
The Young can survive. They must first learn from good leaders. Young people may have the knowledge and good ideas but Im sure if they walk along with the experienced leaders, they will be even more powerful when their time come to shine. It is foolish for my son who is 21 years old who just return from college to take over my multi million dollar company. He has to work with me to gain the experience and the wealth of knowledge to add to what he has already obtained. He will be even more efficient when he is fit to lead.
Media, if this is true, i think this is a good move. it looks like the party is going back to what worked in 2002.
Media, in my estimation, Raynard Rigby is getting of scott free! The fact is, he did a crappy job when he took over the reigns as chairman of the party. The decline of the branches, the disorganization and lethargic attitude of the party machinery came under Rigby’s watch. I dont understand why those in the know wont call him out for what he was. He was a novice, and like Tommy T, wasnt ready for prime time. He too has to carry some blame for the party’s loss in 2007.
I was very upset t the way he was all over tv and radio pointing fingers at the PC leadership as the reason for its defeat, when HE WAS APART OF THE LEADERSHIP TEAM!
Media, sometimes things happen to reveal the real character in others. I believe Roberts will straighten out the kinks at the ground and constituency level.
@David
And David that was the same thing they said when the FNM leader Hubert returned, “the young will not survive,” they say.
Bahamas Press/Editor
here goes the plp…same old party. the young will not survive in the plp
“BIG BAD BRAD” is back?
Boy, I think many in the FNM are shaking in their boots. I thought it was because of Mr. Robert’s tenacity in 2002 that the PLP won that election. He also seems to be the only man in the Bahamas the Rt. Hon Hubert Ingraham fears.
