EIGHT MILE ROCK, Grand Bahama – For the first time in almost two and a half years, the Eight Mile Rock East Local Government Township has its full complement of members.

Minister for Lands and Local Government, the Honourable Sidney Collie has appointed Mr. Vandyke Hepburn, Mr. Darron Grant and Mr. Roscoe Saunders to fill the vacant spots on that nine-member Town Committee.

The posts were left vacant last year, requiring the Minister responsible to appoint persons to fill these posts.

The three men reside in the Eight Mile Rock East area and were sworn into office by the Administrator for West Grand Bahama, Rufus Johnson during a brief ceremony at the Administrator’s Office in Eight Mile Rock on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Hepburn is a veteran photographer attached to Bahamas Information Services in Freeport. Mr. Grant currently serves as the Project Manager for the Ginn Group and is a Civil Engineer.  Mr. Saunders is also well known in the West Grand Bahama District.  He is a Construction Engineer, having worked at the Ministry of Works for several years.

Eight Mile Rock East Town Committee members are: Chairman Percy Charlton, Rosney Cooper, Deputy Chairman; Mr. Calvis Bartlett, Councillor; Mr. Harold Curry, Councillor; and Mr. James Vega and Mr. Joylean Rolle. Mr. Hepburn, Grant, and Saunders.

In swearing in the three new Town Committee members, Administrator Johnson asked that they be honest, fair and sincere in carrying out their duties and to use their term in office to help in building their Township.

Local Government elections throughout the country are expected before July 1st 2008.  Members are elected for a three year term.
