Nassau, The Bahamas – U.S. Ambassador Ned L. Siegel and his wife Stephanie recently met with executives at the Bahamas National Trust (BNT) to discuss the Trust’s current activities and explore new ways the U.S. Embassy can assist the BNT with its mandate of National Park Management.

During the visit, Eric Carey, Executive Director, and Pericles Maillis led the Siegels on a brief tour of the grounds and pointed out to them some of the indigenous trees and fauna of The Bahamas.  Following the tour, BNT executives and Ambassador Siegel discussed the work done by BNT and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Trust and the U.S. Parks Service.

Ambassador Siegel indicated that he will work towards ensuring that the BNT and the Bahamas National Park system receive all possible benefits available under the MOU.  The MOU provides opportunities for training, for Trust staff to visit National parks in the United States, and for alliances that can assist the organization in preserving protected sites in The Bahamas.

Next year, the Bahamas National Trust will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.  Ambassador Siegel said he looked forward to the Embassy participating in the anniversary celebrations.
