Paradise Island, Bahamas — Residents and tourist on Paradise Island were moved in horror on Halloween night as gunshots were fired at the Marina Village centre around 10pm Saturday. At the end of the gun battle bullets left a police officer and a security guard wounded at the crime scene. The incident is believed the result of a failed robbery. The suspect is believed to have fled the scene on foot.
The shooting incident took place directly in front of the marina docking office which is adjacent to the popular burger restaurant Johnny Rockets.
The ordeal produced chaos at the busy tourist hot spot, which is usually frequented by guest vacationing on the island. Cars were line along the Paradise Island bridge as teams police officers descended into the area, with watercraft vessels combing the habour and patrol vehicles searching for the gunman.
Bahamas Press now confirms no tourists were harmed following the shooting. However, eyewitnesses told Bahamas Press as the shots were fired guests and locals, some dressed in Halloween costumes, fled into restaurants at the marina visibly shaken and some emotionally move to tears only seconds after the incident.
“Police told us to stay inside the restaurant. I know all in and out of the island were blocked and they [police] stopped allowing people access on the island up until 11pm. I saw and heard an ambulance with sirens coming into the area. And following that tape stretched from Carmines to Johnny Rockets to the Marina office,” an eyewitness told BP.
Bahamas Press Facebook friend Gail Bethel said, “ I hope both persons are alive. This is ridiculous, and [is] not good for our country. These goons need to stay home if they can’t learn how to behave in public. All this will do is make it bad for us sensible Bahamians who occasionally visit Marina Village and enjoy the various entertainment that the tourist enjoy.”
Former MP Sidney Stubbs, a resident of Paradise Island, added, “I think it is a sad day for all of us when horrible things like this happen. We have to ensure that we continue to support the Police and our Paradise Island Security personnel.”
Up to press time BP could not confirm the condition of any of the victims, however, police could be seen taking photos of a bloody t-shirt left at the crime scene as they began their investigations.

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT !! People would think twice before they go and murder others. How is it that the christian council has so much power to stop murderers from being executed. The victims of murder did not have anyone protecting them. I’m pretty sure that their opinions would be different if they were burying their loved ones who were victims of a senseless murder. Why the lovefest for a murderer?

the comment from stubbs sounds so typical of a person in governement; generic, uncaring, boring, and short. he’s prbbly only scared for himself and family bcz he never thought it would come up to his posh residence. like any of them really care. but now they see the violence is moving up to a more sophistcated area, than just a regular store or in the ghetto.
i know the tourists and everyone there was so frightened. i know i would be. you just dont expect that to happen there. and on haloween with kids out and about!

TO see people defend Sidney Stubbs and the embrassment that he brought to the country for 5 years sickens me.. but I am sure that they are only status quo PLPs who would do such a thing… listen, ya’ll talk about crime, it was the likes of Sidney and his gang who robbed the public treatury of the Bahamas for the few years that he was ex chair at baic… Sidney Stubss should be in jail and by extention so should parry christie and the PLP government for allowing him to sever after he caused the public purse so much money with his lustful curruption of this country.

Stop the panic this problem has be growing for some 40yrs. Where in equality is the order of the day… this is one of many examples what could and is happening in our Bahamaland. Its the small minds that bring politics into the frey. Both parties promise this and that but a society peoblem is bigger than any one man or political organization. I am appalled by some of the comments I see on this site. A Govt duty is first and foremost to its citizens. That is why we pay taxes. They cannot protect us. PI Has its own security force made up of some of the Bahamas’ former Officers. We The People need protection, we need Change Bahamas.

I am so upset because minutes before this incident took place I was trying to find a parking spot so that i could visit the marina figuring that it would be a safe place.i was unable to find a spot that I considered comfortable so I left and cautiously proceeded home.The streets were filled with young persons who had eggs and rocks in their hands.Of course I contacted the Police,went home clicked on this site and got the horrible news.I am still quite shaken as the marina is one of my favorite spots because of its security.I now demand that the Minister of National Security give we the mob someone for the gallows he said he had five so one right now is needed to quiet the Bahamian people.And Rev Hulan Hanna stop lying to Bahamians by telling them that khaki would have been on the streets in all areas,I saw none.
Only the Grace of God can save this Country now. The repercussions of this are likely to be far reaching, and will not bode well for our people.

Bahamians reviled and teased mr.FORBES about his statements at the PLP convention about ms.BRIDGEWATER being found not guilty,however i still believe that prime minister INGRAHAM made the MOST STUPID,UNINTELLIGENT AND NON SENSICAL DECLARATION EVER IN BAHAMIAN POLITICAL HISTORY.The statement was,”THE CRIMINALS ARE TARGETING AND KILLING EACH OTHER,LAW ABIDING CITIZENS HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR.”The sad thing was ONLY BAHAMAS PRESS CONDEMNED THE PRIME MINISTER ABOUT THIS UNFORTUNATE STATEMENT,NO OTHER SECTOR OF THE MEDIA OR RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY HAD THE COURAGE TO CONFRONT THE PRIME MINISTER ABOUT HIS LOOSE LIPS RUNNING OFF WITHOUT RECEIVING ANY THOUGHTS FROM HIS BRAIN.
