Some 18 tourists were held up at gunpoint and robbed at the BASH nature trails site in Chippingham today, according to property manager Terry Miller. The group robbery against the guests is the second daylight heist of its kind now taking place in The Bahamas. Last month a group of tourists were robbed at the Queen’s Staircase. Miller said the victims were robbed of their personal items including money, jewelery and personal documents. Police are investigating the matter.

  1. well i knew the accused man inthis case in all the years i knew him he is a hard worker that provides for his kids and i blame the public also for what has happened but as we sholud realize god does things in his reasoning maybe it was a life changing experience for him

  2. The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is situated in the Atlantic very close to the Florida coast so you’ll probably depart from ports like Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Because the islands are so close you’ll probably make your first port within a matter of hours. With over 700 islands the Bahamas is situated between Florida and Cuba. With so many to choose from even a quick cruise will bring you to at least one of the Bahamas islands.

  3. As one of the 18 robbed at gunpoint a few days ago, I can definitely attest to the point that police presence should be stepped up in many areas.

I had no clue that a ship sanctioned excursion could possibly be dangerous. Neither did the other 17 people with me.

    • Oh wow Stacy I’m so sorry that happened to u and the others. I’m in Chgo and I had visited a friend who lives on Nassau 2 times this yr. He lives where we would call the suburbs   but still even around there there is violence. I wanted to go to the beach right across the street and he was worried something would happen to me so he wouldnt let me go unless he was with me. I love the people there—-Ive been in the actual towns/ neighborhoods  of Nassau where u get the flavor of how it is to live there and the people are generally nice and friendly….it can be  a nice experience but yes things do happen no matter where u live. Tourism is  their bread and butter and the criminals should wake up and realize they r ruining it for their fellow Bahamian neighbors  by the crimes they commit.

  4. A few years ago my girlfriend and her daughter were visiting the Ardastra Gardens and they were held up by an armed bandit. Nothing ever came out of it. There is a dark cloud hanging over the Bahamas. We have to get back to basis or our tourism product will go the way of what Jamaica used to be. The cruise lines will be sued and also the Bahamian Government might be sued also, they were sent into harmsway, and the country is not safe. Wake up Bahamaland! take action, the land is lawless, the criminals have taken over and are in charge. They can Kill, Rob and appear in court and given bail. Wake up Bahamas, can’t you see the soilder who killed the soilders in Ft. Hood, well he is being tried from his hospital bed. Bahamas need to take action, the judicial system is corrupt and must be cleaned up the police is doing absolutely nothing, so we will face the consequences. I am afraid to tell people about the Bahamas that how fearful I am. The people MUST take to the streets and let their voices be heard.

  5. Wow as an American who loves the Bahamas its very sad to read what goes on. I’m in Chgo and yes we have our share of violence. I guess I dont think I should read things like this happening on the island.

    • Lets not be ridculous! crime is everywhere. You can’t hide, or make a wish for it to go. The Bahamas is an island, and just how other countries have crime, we do too. I’ve traveled to the US and have experience being robbed a few times, and i would be a first class fool to think that i should not have been robbed. Crime is everywhere like i said.  So my advice to u is this, the same precaution that u’d take in your country or you do the same here.

      • Ok I know crime is everywhere. Thats right the Bahamas ( and refering just to Nassau) not nearly as big as Chgo and an armed robbery of 18 people??? OMG!!!! Im in the heart of Chgo where I have the ghetto on one side and the ok area on the other—I dont live in the quiet suburbs where crime isnt as prevelent as in the inner city. I hope your police punish them harshly when caught and not just a slap on the hand. What I think they should do is if they wanna use a gun—-cut off that hand. Maybe harsher consequences for crimes will make them think twice.

  6. I am only a lay person and I realize this country is in trouble someone please tell me if our leaders are busy thinking proactively or are they just profiling.

In this day and age every area that is visited by tourist should have at least 2-3 police officers present at all times. Some heads must roll from Tourism and National Security.

    This is disgraceful and sad.

  7. Well Kim and Media, Winchesters don’t frighten these people who have smaller, faster weapons. If they are robbing in groups, they will be expecting someone to have a shotgun which could only shoot one round at a time by which time they could load a whole clip into someone. Business people applying for firearms are being denied while the illegal guns are sucking the very lifeblood out of our country. While my husband too has a winchester, I stay locked inside my house afraid to go to church at nights afraid because one of the nightly gunfirings in my area might stray my way. All I say is this, being a woman, a large gun is a bit awkward but a razor in the hands of a blackbelt could be very effective. To all women out there, take self defence lessons. It could come in handy more sooner than later. Desperate times call for desperate measures and my fellow bloggers, when tourists are robbed in groups in broad daylight, you may consider that these are drastic times.

  8. media :@Kim SandsWell Kim why you think I still up WIDE-A-WAKE? I here sitting with WINCHESTER LOADED waiting for the first cat to jump my gate. The gun already loaded, I aiming and the first Jackrabbit think a breaching my compound will be fired upon.
I ain’t playing with these suckers! They taking crime to another level and so will I take my protection to another level.
Don’t be aware of the dog, be aware of the owner, DAS ALL I SAYING!
If it is one thing I got from the FNM Convention it was this, “BAM BAM BAM!” I think they was telling us buy our gun and get them loaded..BAM BAM BAM! I READY!

And I don’t blame you. I remember when I used to have a problem with people toting around weapons on them and bringing them into their home, but I am here thinking I need to see if I could get my hands on one myself. Around here is quickly developing into a war zone and these suckers serious, you have to be prepared for them, if you come playing they taking you out quickly. Now that I think about it too Media, I believe the FNM were indirectly encouraging us buy our guns for our own protection, because it is obvious they don’t have any clue on how to deal with this crime situation.

  9. All this talk bout Tommy Turnquest; you must all be kidding to think he cares at all. Tommy been helping his freinds out of jail all along,
One freind shoot someone. couple dollars later and all charges disapear
Nother friend : take someone out complete, no charges yet, heard that one cost 100 grand,
Time to check the rapid wealth accumulation of these politcal pigs

BP you strap and loaded? LOL, I thought i was the only one.

  11. Can someone please tell me why is it that these areas where tourist frequent dont have more police presence? HAI and Tommy moved the 70 plus police officers out of Urban Renewal. Where they send them? They couldnt send a couple of them to cover these areas where they know tourist does go? Sometimes i does wonder what is it exactly that HAI and Tommy Turnquest does when they go to work in the morning.

Tommy Turnquest is clueless. HAI would love nothing more than to fire Tommy because he knows that Tommy isnt doing a good job and more importantly, HAI knows the public will applaude that move. But he cant fire Tommy like he did Carl Bethel.

Think about this, Neko Grant, Ken Russel and Carl Bethel. What do they all have in common? Ineffective ministers removed by HAI. So the question is why hasnt he moved Tommy? I done tell yall deals were made between Tommy’s camp and HAI in 2006 when Tommy T “stepped aside” so HAI could come back as leader unopposed.
That deal is what has HAI hands tied.

You all want to see the FNM implode, let HAI fire Tommy and watch the knives come out.

  12. From Rodney Moncur facebook website: The family food store of the first Bahamian Governor General in an independent Bahamas, the late Freedom Fighter and National Hero His Excellency Sir. Milo B. Butler was robbed last night Saturday the 14th November 2009 and a member of the staff was shot in his stomach. The staff is presently in hospital fighting for his life! This is the second robbery and shooting at this store which is located on Blue Hill Road and Chapel Street in the City of Nassau….

  13. Rodney Moncur:

MURDER COUNT IN THE BAHAMAS IS NOW 77. GOSPEL TALK SHOW Workers Party
Leader Rodney Moncur will be a quest on Spirits Gospel Radio on Sunday
the 22nd November 2009 at 5pm. The show will be host by Rev. Glen
Rolle. Moncur will discuss the rise in murder in The Bahamas and the
solution to reducing the level of murder which stands at 76.

  15. After reading this on BP, I waked my husband up out of his sleep to show him this and he asked me why I couldn’t wait until morning to tell him about this and I really felt bad about disturbing his rest, because I know how hard he is work, but when he realized how upsetting this was to me, he was very understanding. It’s very disturbing for me to even imagine that it is Bahamians actually doing these things, when they know how strongly we depend on tourism. So many people have lost their job in the hotel sector and now when tourists are gradually returning to our shores and they could go and pull a stunt like this!! What is wrong with these jack*****? It is bad for us to have to deal with these harden criminals ourselves, now they targeting the visitors who are putting bread and butter on our tables? Tommy and Hubert something needs to be done with the crime situation in the country. My suggestion is bring back the Cat O’ Nine tail, so some of these stupid criminals could come back to their senses quickly.

  16. Wat have we come to? Ignorant young men/women that have no hope, lazy, insecure scums, who chose to jeopardize the life line of The Bahamas just to get couple dollars they could easily work for. Don’t they understand they have to live in this country like the rest of us, robbing Tourist which can result in the downfall of the economy, how stupid can these fools be, bet those fools mother, brother and uncles work in the Tourism business….typical black crab, pulling others and themselves down through their own ignorance, thinking they get over on someone…stupid
