Nassau, Bahamas
— Two people were stabbed and died at 3pm today. Information is still sketchy. Scottland Yard is on the case and will report later.

It is official. As of 3pm today November 27, the murder count in the Bahamas has now reached 79.

Instead of debating or causing a debate on amendments to the crime laws, this FNM government decided to cause a public debate on a martial rape law. That tells you how out of touch they are. Blind Bartemus could have seen that with the slowing economy, crime would increase. A responsible forward looking government would have prepared the country for these tough times.

The truth is, the FNM met a bountiful treasury in place, billions of dollars of investment projects and they were just blinded and failed to watch the trends. But with a Prime Minister who opened his mouth and said the wrong things to investors; whose government told investors that they would have to stop review and may cancel contractual obligations left in place … is there any wonder the investors packed and left?Bahamas Elections

So, while we debated if a man can rape his wife, the economy began to crumble and, naturally, crime began to increase. Instead of taking steps to amend the Bail Act and the Criminal Procedure Code they let out 200 felons in April. And the FNM say they are not responsible for the increase in crime. Instead of strengthen the Urban Renewal Program, they cancelled it. The FNM has done all the things that would cause an increase in crime, and cancelled everything that would have contributed to a decrease in crime.

Instead of institutionalizing law enforcement presence on school campuses, they took the Police out. I hear that the Police are back.

Slowly but surely, the FNM is SNEAKING back all the things that they changed when they came into office. But, it is a little too late. We need to do all we can to show and demonstrate that the FNM has no solution to the crime problem. We need to prepare impeachment documents against the Prime Minister and his government, (especially Tommy Turnquest) who are constitutionally charged to protect the Bahamas.

The Bahamian public has suffered enough. I can hear their VOICES calling for change … D Day 2012. “we gat dis!”

  1. the FNM say they are not responsible for the increase in crime….Instead of strengthen the Urban Renewal Program, they cancelled it.So what the hell are they responsible for?! YOU BAHAMIAN PEOPLE voted these clowns in. I’ve NEVER, underline NEVER, voted in my life bcz both sides suck. i dont just blame them, but the idiots that voted for these idiots! they get in with big promises and when they’re in, they’re like ghosts; you don’t see them. all they’re doing is filling their pockets with money behind closed doors.Naomi i totally agree with you that both are as bad. but i will prefer plp anyday over this silly fnm. the plp at least try. i think christie has a good heart to do well. they began the urban renewal (which by the way was working so well, it breaks my heart that the ignorant, petty fnm stopped it), e.t.c. so they do try. but they’re still faliures like the fnm. why the hell are ppl voting for either party?? when election time comes, i say no one shows up, and no one votes. wake up Bahamas! we have the power to say who is the leader for this island. if these clowns get voted in AGAIN, the only ppl are to blame are the Bahamians themself. bcz u know what they’re about. fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

  3. Tommy says that our crime problem is actually a parental problem, well blow me down!!

I wondered about that and even I couldn’t understand why I used to hold the same view!! While parenting might be the root cause of the problem, it does not end there.. We chose a govt to provide the necessities, instruments, tools and LAWS that our country needs in order to keep us safe! It is quite simple. When parents fail to do their part and the church can’t pick up the slack then WHO is responsible?? The govt does not have a choice in this matter. It HAS to pick up the slack!! The govt can’t be pointing fingers at us when we put them there to PROTECT us!!

I have one question for Tommy and all those who supports his views on this crime issue…. When in our lifetime have you ever heard an owner of a basketball team, baseball team etc blame the fans for causing their teams to lose or never win a championship???

Owners (we the public) always blame the head coach (HI) and the players (the CABINET and in this case Tommy who is a member of this “FNM team”)who are responsible for whether the team wins or loses!! That’s what we the fans (the public) pay them for!!! If you all can’t do the job at the end of this season (which lasts 5 years), you all will be FIRED!!!

    DO YOUR JOBS!!!

  4. @PITBULL
The problem aint sending the police out you know, the problem is getting them to do their jobs. Just this week, I was so scare when I stepped out my car and this police vehicle swing around me with two officers in it and they were dressed in their uniform, I was trying to figure out what I did, until the driver asked me, what high school I graduated from and I was like, why? Then he told me, my face look familiar, I was like ok, anyway I running late for an appointment you guys have nice day and started to walk off and that’s when the driver shouted out and ask me if I was married. At this point, I was trying to figure out what kind of police they were if they couldn’t see that big bling on my finger. Now, I hope you see why they are messing up some of these investigations? Anyway, what I am trying to say is these police should take their jobs more seriously and stop trying to pick up women, buying numbers and hanging out in these bars while on duty and just maybe they would be able to catch some of these criminals.

  5. PITBULL :only one person died yesterday
    [Reply]

Only one? Tell that to the victim family and that’s how it is start with one here and one there, before you know it you have a heap of unsolve murders on your hands. They need to do something with this crime situation buddy. These criminals getting bolder by the day and it is obvious Tommy don’t know what to do. He talking about he know where is children are, when people getting shoot and stab up every couple of hours.

  6. I PUT IT TO THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, IT CAN NO LONGER BE BUSINESS AS USAUAL, WE HAVE A CRIME PROBLEM, PUT THE ROYAL BAHAMAS POLICE FORCE ON 12HRS AND LET US LOCK DOWN THIS 7 BY 21 AND WEED OUT THESE CRIMINALS WHO HAVE ILLEGAL FIREARMS AND RECKING HAVOC ON OUR VERY EXSISTANCE. WITHIN A MONTH TWO OFFICERS ARE SHOT AND WE SITTING BACK PUSSY FOTTEN AROUND. IN THE SPACE OF TWO WEEKS OVER TWENTY TOURIST ROBBED AND ASSAULTED AND POLICE COULD GO HOME. MR. FERGUSON NEEDS TO EQUIPT HIS OFFICERS AND SEND THEM OUT. NO LONGER CAN .38 BE USED TO COMBAT MACK TENS, TECH NINES, AND AK-47S, NO LONGER CAN COROLLAS BE USED TO CAPTURE MUSTANGS AND MAXIMAS. WHERE IS THE VISION, LEADERSHIP ON OUR POLICE FORCE. LETS MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE FOR CRIMINALS TO EXSIST ON THIS ISLAND AND COUNTRY, LETS HAVE TWO MONTHS OF ZERO TOLERANCE AND SHAKE THE VERY FOUNDATION ON CRIME. I DECLARE WAR ON CRIME AND THOSE WHO INVOLVE THEMSELVES IN IT. IF YOU AGREE DO SO BY COMMENTING.

  7. I THINK IT WOULD BE UNFAIR TO ARGUE THAT URBAN RENEWAL REDUCE CRIME DUE TO THE FACT THAT BETWEEN 2002-2007 THIS COUNTRY WAS IN AN ECONOMIC BOOM. WE ARE NOW IN A RECESSION WITH UNEMPOLYMENT IN DOUBLE FIGURES AND ITS BAD ALL AROUND EVEN FOR THOSE WITH JOBS SO DURING THE REIGN OF THE CHRISTIE ADMINISTRATION THE TIMES WERE NOT AS HARD SO THE DESPIRATION WAS NOT THERE AND MONEY WAS FLOWING. SO WE CAN NOT RIGHTLY SAY IT WORKED OR IT DID’NT

  8. Tommy Turnquest started the “blame game” when he politicized crime, and made mockery of Mother Pratt’s strategy. Now that he is faced with the same task, he is failing, and now (OF COURSE) we cannot blame the government for the criminal element in our society. I am tired of the rhetoric. The level of crime has risen drammatically under Tommy’s watch. I know that you cannot change the intent or actions of a person, but it was Tommy T who claimed he knew all the answers to our problem. The same Tommy now that he is faced with challenges refuses to admit that he has no clue about how to combat crime. Every month there is some new plan, some new strategy…….ALL FAILURES. I think Tommy knows that he is failing and does not care enough to try to do better. The FNM’s response to the state of this country is lackadaisical, and we wonder why we cannot do any better…..

  9. NAOMI, PLEASE SEARCH THE OFFICIAL RECORDS ON CRIME AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY IN THE COUNTRY FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS AND YOU WILL FIND THAT THE STATS UNDER THE FNM WERE AND ARE AT RECORD HIGHS, COMPARED WITH THE YEARS UNDER THE PLP. URBAN RENEWAL, PERRY CHRISTIE STYLE WE BELIEVE, HAD A HUGH POSITIVE EFFECT ON REDUCING CRIMINAL ACTIVITY WITHIN THE HOT SPOT AREAS OF THE COUNTRY AND THEREFORE REDUCED, ALL AROUND, CRIME OVERALL. THE FIGURES ARE THERE FOR ALL TO SEE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE COUNTRY’S OFFICIAL RECORDS SUPPORTS THE CASE FOR THE PLP AS OPPOSED TO THE FNM- THE FNM HAS THE WORSE RECORD, BY FAR, ON THE CRIME FIGHTING FRONT; NO QUESTION ABOUT IT.

Crime is a product of a broken and troubled society, this was coming a long time ago and the bottom is falling out finally. Bahamians don’t respect laws, the police force is corrupt together with those who make the laws.
    [Reply]

@naomiYou are answering your own question Babe, the government controls the police force, the government has the means to make things happen in any community in this country, the government has the means to truly invest in it’s people, these few points, and there are more, is how a government can slow down crime, Urban Renewal did some of those things, if it was honoured by internationally, the something must have been legit about it, governments can use their culture departments to boost their citizens moral, governments can work with the private sector to invest in communities, if the country isn’t safe, their businesses would not be profitable, the way you describe things, it seems like the Bahamas is going to hell in a hand basket, if we can help it,(me & you), I know that won’t happen. Love ya Naomi!!!!

  11. The most revolutionary social programme ever implemented in the Bahamas was tweaked so seriously by the FNM Govt that it can no longer be recognised by anyone.Havimng been a volunteer in the programme I can say that it was going a long way at reducing criminal and deviant behaviour in our country. Some Govt Ministers are of the view that Poliocemen should only respond to crime and not try to prevent, obviously they are not in step with modern policing.Assumptions that this crime wave would have occured no matter who is in power is ludricous.Urban renewal PLP style reduced the fear of crime and was getting communities to trust the Police. The FNM govt fired persons from depressed communities thus leaving them jobless and adding to criminal behaviour. The Govt must admit its mistakes and only then can a consensus be arrived at.FNM say you are sorry and mean it b ut I will nopt hold my breath..

  12. @Awakened
So you are saying a government can control people’s mind so that they would not want to commit crimes, is that it. In order to establish a criminal offense there must be the intent i.e., in the mind and the action. I find it hard to believe that governments can stop people from committing crime. They must be going to install a police in each household. Crime is a product of a broken and troubled society, this was coming a long time ago and the bottom is falling out finally. Bahamians don’t respect laws, the police force is corrupt together with those who make the laws. We are in trouble, we have to all come together as a nation and do something. I am not blaming the PLP far from it, my only beef is I am tired of the blame game!! If the PLP was in power right now, we would be having the same problem!

  13. @naomiBabe, Urban Renewal did something, that is the point, there is one government at a time and the present government isn’t doing a good job, they are just blaming parents, parents who have to go out and work, under these economic conditions, one or two jobs, or should they stay home with their kids and starve, Tommy is the Minister of National Security, no one else is, he has to find a solution, Hubert is the “Prime” Minister, when he fails, that means the party isn’t doing well, so don’t point at the PLP, they are out, people stop being distracted and stay on the mark, the government of the day is the FNM, tell them to do their job, better yet, make them do their job, they are being paid well.

  14. @ronica7
I agree with you all counts, it is just that I don’t think the argument can be that Urban renewal reduced crime. I think abandoning the program was a bad decision, but I get tired of hearing that it was somehow a solution to crime.

  15. Naomi, it still boils down to who left a social program in place. We have to start somewhere, quashing Urban Renewal, and the National youth service, and saying $1,300.00, per boy is to expensive is foolhardy.

We must begin to look ahead, say wht you like about Sir.Lynden, but he sure looked ahead. The many un-employment benefits to be had, has come about because of National Insurance The College of the Bahamas, et, al would not exist today, if the PLP, had not looked ahead.

  16. @ronica7
I agree with you, long term it would perhaps serve as a deterrent. Right now there is no quick fix. Both parties should be getting together instead all we hear is blame, blame and more blame. PLP just as bad as the FNM, the FNM called for Mother Pratt to resign and in fact a lot of PLP’s saw her as joke and out of her league. Now the shoe is on the other foot the PLP doing the same thing. While we perish these jokers shoot off their big mouths.

  17. Kim Sands :@naomiAmen. You are speaking the whole truth and nothing but the truth, which is no political party, has the solution to crime. While, I agree with your comments, one would have just expected Tommy to be doing more to combat crime, especially after dissing the PLP for the way they were handling things when they were in power. This is why, I always tell people do what you have to do to the best of your abilities and once you feel comfortable and you know that you have put out your best, don’t let nobody diss your efforts, because people will always tell you if it was me, I would do it like this or I would do it like that and when it is their time to deal with the same situation all of a sudden they don’t know what to do.
    [Reply]

AND NOW THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT(FROM MOTHER PRATT-TOMMY)AND IT TIGHT AS HELL…MA ALWAYS SAY DON’T THROW STONES IF YOU LIVE IN GLASS HOUSE, NOW TOMMY TOTTING BLOWS….TOMMY WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND LET ME SEE YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS CRIME DILEMA OTHER THAN TALK…..

  18. Naomi, at least one party tried to put in place something that may have helped as a deterrent to crime, in the long run. The fact is, there are no short term solutions, But! Giving our young people something to do, and something to look forward to, especially our boys, would have gone a long way in preventing some of them from falling through the cracks.

Urban Renewal, according to Bishop Gomez, and i am paraphrasing, ” single social program since National Insurance” Go, figure!

  19. @naomi
Amen. You are speaking the whole truth and nothing but the truth, which is no political party, has the solution to crime. While, I agree with your comments, one would have just expected Tommy to be doing more to combat crime, especially after dissing the PLP for the way they were handling things when they were in power. 20. @FDORRESTER J CARROLL J.P
Do you think the PLP will do a better job? I think as far as that is concerned we will just be replacing one face with another. Crime has been escalating for a while. We are a lawless society, we need to fix our people first and for some it is far too late. I think it unfair to blame Tommy, we need to blame so many others, like parents, the church, the school, the economy. Both parties have politicized crime and both of then know that they can do no better. Mother Pratt sure didn’t. That urban renewal stuff is just a band aid and I don’t think it really helped as far as crime prevention. I am sick and tired of hearing them both blame each other.

  21. THIS IS A HAPLESS BUNCH, THIS FNM CREW. IN AUGUST THE FAMOUS FOUR POINT PLAN WAS UNVEILED, FOR TACKLING CRIME; AND THEY KNEW WHO THE CRIMINALS WERE AND THEY KNEW WHERE THEY OPERATED FROM, REMEMBER? SINCE THEN WE’VE HAD TWO GROUPS OF 11 AND 18 TOURISTS HELD UP AT GUN POINT AND ROBBED, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT AND IN PROTECTED ENVIRONMENTS, NO LESS; MY GOD WHAT’S NEXT? THIS FNM CREW SIMPLY NEEDS TO GO, BAHAMAS. SINCE AUGUST I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY MURDERS, STABBING AND ROBBERIES OF ALL KINDS; WILL HAVE TO GET THE CALCULATER. CAR THEFTS, RAPES AND ATTEMPTED RAPES WE DON’T EVEN COUNT OR TALK ABOUT THEM ANYMORE; YOU NOTICE?

  22. @Bahamasyouth
I know that you missed this point so am putting it where you can see it,”The truth is, the FNM met a bountiful treasury in place, billions of dollars of investment projects and they were just blinded and failed to watch the trends”.So instead of beating my now favorite target wannabe leader Tommy T accept the facts that the whole Govt. needs to go.Tommy T is just on the poster but PAPA placed him there and is more to blame than hapless Tommy T who is now acting PM.I warned everyone to stay inside until Monday as a scary man is in charge and the criminals know.I love your quote,” there’s no room for weak administration”.

  23. And want run the country… Tommy needs to go find Dick and Harry because there’s no room for weak administration.
