Nassau, Bahamas – The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China has donated $20,000 to public charity in The Bahamas.
“It is just a token of friendship, love and care from the entire staff of the Embassy as well as from the Chinese people towards the Bahamian people,” said Ambassador Hu Dingxian.
He called on Minister of State for Social Services, the Hon Loretta Butler-Turner, to make the presentation, Monday, November 30.
Mr. Hu noted that the international economic recession and the accompanying financial crisis has brought tough times and hardship for a lot of people including Bahamians and Chinese.
“I salute you and your Government for the hard work you have been doing in alleviating the hardship on the poor and needy,” the Ambassador told Minister Butler-Turner.
He said charity and poverty alleviation is not the responsibility of the Government alone, but is also that of the entire society.
“We need to enhance the awareness of the whole society to participate in this undertaking and also to encourage everyone to do their part,” he said.
“The Embassy here is willing to do our part, which is why we are here to donate a small sum of money.
“We also know that this cannot help much to solve your problems, it is just a token of friendship, love and care from the entire staff of the Embassy as well as from the Chinese people towards the Bahamian people.
“I am also sure and convinced that with joint efforts we can overcome and get over this hardship and tough times,” said Ambassador Hu.
