Nassau, BAHAMAS – A $2.6 million dollar technology upgrade is boosting connectivity and technology access on the Northern Bahamas and Oakes Field campuses. The upgrade includes:
* Six general use labs outfitted with 12 new printers.
* 30 new Mac computers for the School of Communication and Creative Arts’ Journalism Department.
* Print facilities on every floor of the Harry C. Moore Library and Information Centre.
* Upgraded printing, scanning and copying facilities around campus for staff and faculty use.
Chief Information Officer in the Office of Information Technology Elgin Smith said he is pleased with the upgrades and focused on continuous improvement.
“We are now in the early stages of upgrading computing environments, printers, scanners, copiers, networking and wireless infrastructure to better serve the needs of our students, faculty and staff. This is only the beginning as we will need to find more funds to not only ensure the ongoing maintenance of our environment but to allow us to keep pace with technology and its various applications as they support higher learning,” explained Smith.
According to Smith, the Office of Information Technology anticipates upgrading computers, laptops and wireless connectivity in Nassau and Grand Bahama by summer.
The College continues its improvements with several capital works projects underway including the construction of the new entrance for the institution.
This year, The College also anticipates the construction of the long-anticipated G.T.R. Campbell Small Island Sustainability Complex; groundbreaking for the 88-bed residential hall at the Grand Bahama campus, and the completion of the F. R. Wilson Graduate Business Centre.
