WASHINGTON, D.C. — During a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, The Bahamas National Children’s Choir and the National Boys’ Choir of The Bahamas staged a delightful concert at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 2220 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., on Friday, July 15, 2016.
Under the direction of General Director Patricia Bazard and Director Audrey Dean-Wright, the choirs performed a variety of popular Bahamian folk songs on the Embassy’s outdoor patio. They were accompanied by Nathaniel J. Adams, Sr. on guitar, Nathaniel J. Adams, Jr. on drums, and Aaron R. Neely on keyboard.
The concert also featured an exciting rake-and-scrape performance by the youth group Rhythm ‘N Youth, featuring Travis Cartwright and Ashton Ferguson on drums, Joey Newbold and Travino Simms skillfully playing saws, and Nathaniel Adams Jr. on electronic harmonica and singing.
Mrs. Bazard said the Bahamas National Youth Choir takes an annual post-independence concert tour to share Bahamian culture and provide exposure for its talented young members.
The group of 39, including some parents and chaperones, arrived in D.C. on Thursday, July 14, and will be here through Tuesday, July 19.
Special guests travelling with the group include H.E. Carlton L. Wright, former Bahamas Ambassador to Cuba, and Mr. Luicito Bazard, former Haiti Consul to The Bahamas.
