With all do respect Sir…

Considering the fact that the FNM has been in power for at least 12 of those 20 years…and most importantly. are in power today…I think that question is directed at the wrong Party.

I am not in anyway stating that the FNM did nothing, but considering these factors, the questions should seriously be redirected.

The problem with our country today is that when a Party gains governance, they are quick to spend 5 years blaming their predecessors as opposed to distinguishing themselves through their actions.

When the PLP regains governance, we should ask them this question…but the FNM is the governing Party! I won’t bother to ask what the FNM has done…better yet I am more interested in what they are doing!

Really? Mr. Johnson. Let’s see. They promised to extend the Port Authority concessions to east and west Grand Bahama. Not done. They promised “unprecedented economic growth and development”. Not done. They promised massive development in west Grand Bahama. Not done. The Royal Oasis closed under their watch. They claimed that construction increased under their watch between 2004 and 2007. But that was due to insurance payments for hurricane repairs and re-building. The question was a genuine one, and I could not answer it. Obviously you can’t either.

Keenan S.P. Johnson
My statement was not in an effort to defend the PLP which is why, as you may have seen, I did not bother to answer the question at hand.

Grand Bahama has suffered over the past 20 years, there is no question about that. Personally, I think it is due to the lack of initiative by both parties during their respective terms. But Mr. Bethell, your comment has proven my point. You have still decided to focus on what the PLP has not done as opposed to what the FNM IS doing (emphasis on IS).

My comment was not to spark a debate about who has done the worst job. The point still remains that your Party is the governing Party. Instead of you educating me on the downfalls of the PLP, why don’t you educate me on what is being done and what is to be expected by the current administration.

Mr. Bethell, you are a well respected politician in our country and very intelligent. I am not seeking to engage in any political debate with you on this matter. I am simply suggesting that you use your influence in your capacity as Chairman of the governing Party to spread positive news of what is being done…as opposed to negative news of what hasn’t been done.

NB: I am in no way stating that the FNM did nothing for Grand Bahama!

The FNM’s record speaks for itself; as do our immediate plans to spur growth and development in Grand Bahama.4815_220662615362_838030362_7450281_1557537_n

Past achievements are: The container Port. The re-development of the Lucaya strip. Our Lucaya Hotel. Bradford Marine. Polymers International. Local Government. New Court Building (Garnet Levarity Justice Centre). New Police Headquarters Building. Re-opened Syntex Pharmaceutical factory. Sister Mary Patricia Russell Junior High School.

Present plans and initiatives: South Riding Point transhipment facility to be significantly expanded. A new Port faciity for cruse ships (that will allow them to be comfortably berthed in a purpose-built port development) is going to be built. A new $16 million government complex is about to be built, thereby creating new construction jobs. The development and construction of Ross University Medical School. The expansion of the Rand Hospital.

Hopefully this answers your question.

Mr Bethel, truth is the people in Freeport are really hurting.

This silly debate does not help them.

I repeat – will this imposter remove Sir Lynden’s portrait – Sir Lynden was never a coward. Bahamian Voices, whether you are a he, she, or an it, you are a coward. If you wish to attack, reveal your identity

In the last 20 years the FNM reigned as Government responsible for 13 years out of the 20. Now by percentage that is 65%. Before Sir Lynden was defeated by the FNM in 1992, he kept his people employed especially in the Tourism industry when the Govrnment took responsibility of the Lucayan Beach hotel on Port Lucaya. He maintain good governance and ensured that the GB Port Authority did what they was mandated to do in GB. In 2002 under the PLP Construction totalled 80M and by 2006 it was 180M. Now the only construction in Freeport is by FES Construction. We all know who have their hands in that. The Container Port experienced a 25% in TEU throughput and increasing employment by over 300 hiring 10 persons a week consistently. The Billion Dollar investment in West GB which was spent Millions in west end improving the lives of the natives there whom was ignored by the FNM for 13 of those years because it wasn’t an FNM territory. Sad! The agreements with Barbary Bay development along with the Port Authority but was sadly paused by the FNM stop cancel and review policy. The 6M paid severance package paid to the Royal Oasis staff after the investor pulled out whom was brought in by the FNM government. But what I dont understand is if Freeport is governed by the Port authority, why was this question relevant. Well because the PLP have seen the incompetence of the FNM and the Port Authority, we had to create a plan and form a Vision for the people of this island because no matter what creed, race, political affiliation, we are BAHAMIANS!!

Carl W. Bethel
The PLP only made a partial payment of severance pay to dismissed Royal Oasis workers. It took the return of he FNM for them to be fully paid. Grand Bahama is bigger than Freeport; one the island, and the other a city as you well know. The qustion related to Grand Bahama as a whole.

The start of the decline of the Port Authority seemes to me to have begun when certain PLP Senator and public figures started to make public criticisms and seemed to be setting up to try and have a takeover of the Port. I was in the Senate at the time and I criticized that PLP Senator for meddling in the affairs of the Port.

There was one significant item that I can recall the PLP Government doing (Mr. Chairman please correct me if I am wrong) and that was the exemption of stamp tax for first time home owners. This proved to be a significant savings for persons purchasing homes.

The glitch (as I heard) was that home owners had to pay the stamp tax (depending on which attorney prepared the mortgage papers) then request reimbursement from the Treasury while others stated that the exemption was automatic provided the appraised value of the home did not exceed $250k. The FNM government was later criticized for not continuing this exemption plan when in fact the exemption had a deadline.

I often brag about the power of my vote because when I voted for the first time,I changed the govt. from PLP to FNM. David Thompson was the representative then.

When I voted for FNM it was an informed decision. My mom is FNM and my dad is PLP (hardcore) so I heard both sides. And then there is the truth.

I voted FNM because as a former student of Hawksbill Senior High that spent her summers in Abaco with no electricity, cable, running water, indoor telephone, paved roads, I wanted a change. I wanted better……..and to be honest I got that. But there is sooooooo much more to be done!

Currently, the FNM is long on talk when it comes to Freeport. But, they want bragging rights? For what? People are hurting and the few jobs are a pittance! In Freeport (or should I say Grand Bahama) they know what they have to do…come 2012…D day…”we gat dis!” Grand Bahama is tired of the FNM talk, small things and big promises!

Bahamian Voices, I live here in Grand Bahama and indeed the island is hurting. I agree with you 100%. There is so much that can be done on this island but the powers that be (and not Govt) must allow it. The island has the space, infrastructure, capacity and the money to do it. You and I may not have it but others do and they just need the right cause to invest in. Believe me, investors need not be foreign, we just need to embrace, empower and appreciate what we have at home.

I am so sick and tired of Bahamians always looking to “the gov’t” or “the powers that be” to employee them, educate them, raise their children, provide them with realiable transportation, keep the criminals out their homes, feed them, etc… When are we going to get together as friends, partners, whatever and start doing these things for ourselves and our family. Who was doing these things when Colombus came here? Get back to basics people.

Carl W. Bethel
Political rhetoric is no answer to facts. The FNM doesn’t talk plans, the FNM implements plans and brings real development and empowerment. The track record is clear. Grand Bahama can count on the FNM.

Where is Andre Birbal? The man who molested more than 20 boys on Grand Bahama along with his clandestine pack of pedophile lovers whilst you was Minister of Education? You should hang your head down in “DUTTY” SHAME to have come on here to ask about 20 years of the PLP when more than 20 boys were molested on Grand Bahama when you was minister. … Birbal was released under your watch and has yet to face JUSTICE! How about the question being, what kind of JUSTICE was delivered for the CHILDREN of EIGHT MILE ROCK HIGH SCHOOL in the last two years of the FNM?

Debbie you said a mouth full. I agree with your statement about coming together. This is why I said investors need not be foreign. Investment doesn’t have to be financial either. How many of us have ever taken the time to read our constitution? (its online) or the laws of the bahamas? (its online)

I am frustrated at times too yet I can only … See Moreimagine what the Government has to go through. But there are still a few of us out there that seek to inspire our children and others by letting them know the Bahamas is still a great place to be.

EXACTLY!!!!!…. Its very hard to get pass MOST Bahamians who are either FNM or PLP… instead of being BAHAMIAN.

  2. Carl Bwethel says,”Political rhetoric is no answer to facts”.Without explaining he then says,”The track record is clear. Grand Bahama can count on the FNM”.Well muddo if you live in GB then you better get out as nothing has happened for you in 2 and a half yrs.The Minister has contradicted himself and knows it.Wutless.inexcuseable,treacherous.If the Gpvt can punish GB then we see why they screwing the rest of the Bahamas.

  3. @Tink we fool
“lets have trivia which minister of state has not finished his degree in economics? tick tock.
I will close my eyes and answer,10/45 aka weasel aka crybaby aka the name of that juice lolo lolo.Am I right so that I can go to the head of the class?lolo lolo that was too easy.

  4. Carl should now be known as the cowardly lion as he shows his colours by backing down from bloggers and using the words of Bahamasyouth,”.”lil red potcake…. yal gat a pitbull who can chew him alive… LET YAL PITBULL CHEW “lolo lolo. And this is who is trying to run interference for the FNM.Too much pressure is on but b4 you fight someone check their record or be eaten alive.Poor Carl I heard he even block his former Cabinet colleagues.OK bahamasyouth I will leave you alone provided you behave but you sure provide me with lots of fodder.

  5. moses leading the people to despair when pappa finish we ain ga even be able to blog no more yinna don vex certain high flyin individuals on both sides fnm and plp in a country were wiretapping is the norm vat next ip protocal and database orders and youll stop talknin bout broken promise and promise cause every one know promise is a comfort to a fool and a broken promise is comfort to a broken fool

lets have trivia which minister of state has not finished his degree in economics? tick tock

  6. EVERY TIME THE FNM IS BEING CHASTISED FOR THEIR INCOMPETENCE, LIES AND BROKEN PROMISES, AN FNM APOLOGIST WOULD COME SPRINTING TO THEIR DEFENSE. THEY USUALLY BEGIN WITH,”WELL THE PLP DID THE SAME,” OR THEY WOULD DEFEND THE FNM BY SAYING, “BOTH PARTIES OR BOTH GOVERNMENTS DO THE SAME THINGS;” THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM” UNQUOTE. BUT LET US NOT BUY THAT SUBTLE CRAP FROM THEM, THERE IS A CLEAR, PRECISE AND DISTINCT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE FNM (THE WAY THEY THINK) AND THE PLP, (THE WAY THEY THINK ABOUT LIFE); THE PLP THINKS ABOUT AND CARES FOR SUFFERING BAHAMIANS; THE FNM CARES FOR THINGS AND THINKS ABOUT WHAT IS BEST FOR THAT BAY STREET GANG; WHY ELSE WOULD BAY STREET SUPPORT THEM, POLITICALLY AND FINANCIALLY, SO OVERWHELMINGLY FOR ALL THESE MANY YEARS?

  7. BAHAMASYOUTH, I WITH YOU. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP MAKING THIS A PLP, FNM ISSUE. IT’S A BAHAMIAN ISSUE!!! UNTIL WE SORT THAT OUT, THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE IN THIS COUNTRY OF OURS. THE ELECTION WAS OVER LONG TIME, MAYBE IF WE TRY OT WORK TOGETHER AS MP’S THEN WE MAY BE ABLE TO PASS SENSIBLE LAWS AND SPEND THE COUNTRY’S MONIES WISELY. WE NEED ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE CUZ I TIRED OF BOTH PLP’S AND FNM’S. BJ, YOU SHOUDA STAY WITH CDR THEN BY NOW YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN A VIABLE OPTION. BOTH PARTIES ARE DEVOID OF 21ST CENTURY IDEAS THAT WILL HELP OUR YOUTH, THEY ONLY CONCERNED WITH GETTING CRONIES STRAIGHT…CROWN LAND ANYONE?

  8. @Bahamasyouth Russell is correct, the FNM is the government of the day, so comparing them is just a cop out, again Obama, takes the fall for whatever happens in America today and never once has he blamed the previous government, “DATS A MAN”, the opposition basically has no power in our system of government, in our system the leader is held accountable, but our media seems to be own by the FNM(UBP)?, let’s be fair, if the PLP were in power, I would lay the smack down on them too, if they were this inept, and when they were in power I had my complaints, but again hold the leader accountable, ………..and Bahamasyouth the word “YAL”, I think it should be spelled y’all or for slang purposes yall, rhyming with fall, just a heads up my boy.

  9. @Bahamasyouth
Why dont you go on vacation or change your name? Its a stupid question and the former Minster must be moping and bored to even put the question on his page.Bahamsyouth has the answers and should show confidence by truthfully answering. He was afraid to answer when futurevoice called him dumb so I dont expect any sensible response. Then he called Carl a red little poodle, well all saw what the cowardly lion did when responded to.

  10. Bahamasyouth :@RodneyOh wow I didnt know… Well hey if you cant stand the heat so why dont he get out of the kitchen. He should be ashamed though… I actually thought he wouldve done a good job since he has EXPERIENCE but ironically the ones who have experience are doing the worst… Him and Tommy gats to go!
    [Reply]

the entire Govt has to go I say all or none because of a feather flock together..

  11. @Bahamasyouth
The FNM is the Govt.so they must be held accountable, this ptactice of blaming an opposition for the dire predicament of the Govt. is ludricous.Stop masking your love for the FNM and come right out and say who you are.Attacking certain of the Ministers will not get you and them off as Cabinet decisions are a collective responsibility.Stop putting just two Ministers out for ridicule as the entire Govt has failed.I just love to invoke your ire by speaking truth so dont try to sacrifice two from the rotten lot.And look at how you describe Carl.”lil red potcake…. yal gat a pitbull who can chew him alive… LET YAL PITBULL CHEW “,bahamasyouth you are a sick puupy lolo lolo.

    [Reply]
    “.

  12. @Russell Johnson
RUSSELLL put a screw on it… You just like to comment on THE NEGATIVE things of the FNM…. Your Bahamian too so PUT ASIDE your child-like tactics and put it to GOOD USE…. FNM and PLP are the same!!!

18 POINTS of achievements so ask yourself this why yal didnt WIN in 2007?…. You always making everything PLP vs FNM instead of RIGHT vs WRONG….. People like you really turn me off against that party and its USUALLY THE PLP. Yal had your chance yal blew it… Now if FNM want join the band then hey THEY WILL BLOW IT TOO….

POINT BLANK… Alfred SEARS was a bad minister and Carl Bethel was a worst Minister…. Mudda Pratt was a bad minister and Tommy Turnquest was a WORST Minister….

STOP WITH THE STUPID TACTICS in all my life on this board I’ve never heard you say ANYTHING bad about the PLP whereas in reality they are just as screw up as THE FNM… But your too close minded and to bias to see that!

  13. @Rodney
Oh wow I didnt know… Well hey if you cant stand the heat so why dont he get out of the kitchen. He should be ashamed though… I actually thought he wouldve done a good job since he has EXPERIENCE but ironically the ones who have experience are doing the worst… Him and Tommy gats to go!

  14. puppet politics nepotism and all things bahamian haha sound like a good book title followed by bitterness, vendictive and greedy a story of bahamian growth haha two number 1 titles

  15. Given the state of the world economy being bad and the fact that pappa callin the shots its not mucch that messers turnquest and bethel can do they can do the honourable thing and resign on principal or tow the party line as they have no stomach for the former the latter is the part they choose. so i wont lambast them in the premises. I just wish they would show some independance and abandon their presidential style aliegance and speak out.the people aint stupid….

  16. lolo lolo Carl can run but cant hide,he is only resigning today as the Minister of Education and was chewed up even b4 he got in the ring with BIG BAD BRAD.If I was Carl I would tell PAPA to get me out as its too hot in the kitchen.

    @Rodney
Can you possibly supply the rest of the conversation with the cowardly lion Carl.Yes that a good name for him lolo.I shall use from now on.

    @Bahamasyouth
Maybe you can present your party memeber with the 18 point achievement of the PLP that I sent to you three weeks ago and you havent had the decency to say thanks.Everyone can get a piece of Carl so who are you to try and run interference for him?Attacks will come from all fronts so pull up your nightstand and weep.”lil red potcake…. yal gat a pitbull who can chew him alive… LET YAL PITBULL CHEW “,bahamasyouth you are a sick puupy lolo lolo.

  17. How quickly Bahamian forget.Remember the meeting in Eight Mile High School when the Teachers in Grand Bahama Showed Up for a meeting with the former Ministry for Education and CARL run away. Hes is a big time coward> So don’t be surprise if he not prepared to debate the real issues

  18. Bahamas Youth, I was one of those persons Carl blocked and I don’t call myself a PLP. I asked him a simple question and apparently, he wasn’t prepared to answer it so his answer was to block people. I have a vote or two and won’t be giving it to Carl the Cowardly Lion in this lifetime or the next. He just lost some independent support over that performance. Why ask questions if you don’t want to hear answers? Coward. I know Carl reads this blog so I hope he see that BP posted it for the rest of you to see. Too bad BP only posted up until his last post but I guess if Carl blocked him, that was all he could get. Needless to say BP, Carl got a good cutskin on his own page after you left. In fact, the cut ass was in session from the first comment from Keenan SP Johnson. Imagine a young law student running those kinds of circles around the Minister and former AG! Shame Carl, Shame.

  19. @FDORRESTER J CARROLL J.P
Now now… I dont blame the guy from blocking some PLP’s who is only there to cause problems with NO SOLUTIONS. Yal expect too much from this lil red potcake…. yal gat a pitbull who can chew him alive… LET YAL PITBULL CHEW HIM ALIVE and stop bashing and abusing his power.

  20. Oh boy Carl does it again, ducking and dodging. Is he really going to ,live up to his facebook motto, Can you hear me now?Like a coward he is running and am ashamed bcos I always thought he had backbone.Being Chairman aint easy especially if you have Big Bad Brad who is a facebook entity. He block everyone so bahamsyouth you better tell him we want to talk and now/

  21. BP, Several persons(PLP’s) have told me tonight that wutless Carl has blocked them from his blog; doesn’t he wish to debate Bahamians? I thought that was the whole idea for making him chairman, so that he can make the case for the FNM or am I wrong about that?

  22. Carl Bethel is only trying to find his voice as FNM Chairman, after it was rammed down his throat. The FNM is not responsible for any business at all coming to Freeport; It’s the Grand Bahama Port Authority Ltd who is to be given credit for whatever takes place or does’t take place in Freeport. The other parts of Grand Bahama they can take credit for, so lets see; what has the FNM government done in Grand Bahama(not Freeport) within the past 13 years of their tenure as government? It was Perry Christie and his PLP government who brought Ginn Sur Mer to West End and apart from that project I don’t know of any other project coming to West, East or Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama under this FNM government in their 13 years sitting in the driver’s seat. Carl Bethel boasts about the re-development of the Lucayan Strip, but if the truth was known what the FNM facilitated the Port Authority in doind was a disservice to us. They allowed three hotels, which were in full operation, to be demolished to make room for one; three Investors operating three different hotels, replaced by one chinese Investor operating one hotel. The PLP contended at the time that it was to our advantage to have the three hotels operating by three different investors because if an employee either left or was fired from one hotel they had two other choices for employment. As it stands. now, if an employee is fired from the Our Lucaya Hotel they have no other options. Carl Bethel should be reminded that it was during this time that Ingraham took pride in telling all those 1500 Bahamians, who were working at the Holiday Inn at the time, that while he was standing they were hired but that when he took his seat, they were fired; he sat down immediately after preaching that sermon to those poor Bahamians. I know of one of those employees who told me that when the FNM came to her house campaiging in the last election, she reminded them of that statement Ingraham made to her and then she said she shut the door in their face. People will not forget those things, Carl. Right now 90% of Grand Bahama don’t wish to see your colours Carl, so if you don’t wish to have stale urine thrown in your face, you had better stay away. Five FNM MPs; Two Senators and three cabinet ministers and what do we get? 30% unemployment and a bunch of excuses from a government who, just three years ago promised us 10,000 jobs.

  23. “YOU HAVE NO SHAME CARL BETHEL/ Perry Christie! YOU HAVE NO SHAME! You should be embarrassed for what you did! Most neglectful government Most neglectful! You are a failure for what you did”…And BAHAMIANS and Hubert Ingraham had good reason to fire you!….

[The words of Hubert Ingraham in the Parliament]

LOL THIS WAS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL…….

  24. Um this wasn’t Called for but I do see that Carl is getting more aggressive and computer savvy… BUT:
    1. Crime is gerin up- Tommy blaming ery1 else but himself.
    2. Tourism is gettin a blow from CRIME.
    4. Education is the same but with MORE CRIME within our Education systems.
