Oswald Brown Writes
By OSWALD T. BROWN
I’m checking to find out if it is true, as Bahamas Press is reporting, that the Our Lucaya Resort in Freeport is about to layoff a number of workers, starting as early as Friday. If this is indeed true, then this is another indictment against Hubert “THE DICTATOR” Ingraham and his FNM Government.
All five FNM Grand Bahama members of Parliament should hang their heads in shame for allowing Ingraham to vindictively do nothing to help Grand Bahama survive during these tough economic times, primarily because of his ongoing feud with Sir Jack Hayward, one of the principal owners of the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA).
There is an overriding consensus in Grand Bahama that Ingraham’s arbitrary decision two years ago to not renew the work permit of Hannes Babak, the then chairman of the GBPA, is the core reason why Grand Bahama is such rough economic waters. Babak along with GBPA President Ian Rolle and other members of a newly installed management team were doing a great job of putting Freeport back on track to being an attractive destination for potential investors. Babak is well known in European economic circles and he had made several trips to Europe which were about to produce good results before Ingraham, for reasons only known to him, decided not to renew his work permit.
Indeed, it was reported that then Immigration Minister Branville McCartney read about the permit refusal in the press. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on The Dictator. Voters in Grand Bahama clearly must now teach him, Zhivargo Laing and the others a lesson in the next election.
If a nation cannot provide family supportive jobs for it’s own citizens, regardless of the pretend jobs any government makes, the unemployed might as well be living in any bankrupt country. All of this is happening while a chosen group of our politicians, and their select group insiders, grow richer, way beyond any visible plowing they have done. The government owns no property. It has no money. Each dollar, every plot of land, belongs to every living Bahamian, yet it is being sold to foreigners, for pennies on the dollar. The Honorable Branville McCartney seems to not understand that; when you tell someone to go to Hell, you cannot just say it. You must show them the way.
It is so good when persons like Brown and Shane Gibson who were once in the bowels of the FNM speak to matters of concern. The blind can no longer dismiss the criticism as a move by the PLP to tell lies on the Govt.Stop,Cancel Review has brought us to the state of affairs we are in so GB must send the FNM a clear message next Gen Elects.”you are fired for incompetence”.
GRAND BAHAMA WAS ON IT’S KNEE FROM THE HURRICANES OF 2004 JEANNE AND FRANCES AND THEN WILMA IN 2005
