Bahamas Press is reporting the shooting death of another proprietor in the Yellow Elder community.

BP reports that shortly after 12AM this morning, a man believed to be in his 30s, was fatally shot just outside his business on Major Road in the Yellow Elder.

A source tell us owner of the convenient store and number house had just left his establishment adjacent to his home when a gunman opened fire on him hitting him fatally in the head.

The gunman fled the area. The motive is still unknown.

The incident becomes the 249th murdered victim since 2009.

POLICE CONTINUE TO CITE TRAFFIC OFFENDERS

Police here in New Providence continue to issue traffic tickets to motorists who fail to adhere to traffic rules. During the past week, police throughout the capital cited five hundred and fifty-nine (559) drivers for various traffic infractions and placed four hundred and seventy (470) matters before the Traffic Court. Some of the offences for which persons were cited for included: Unlicensed and Uninspected vehicle, driving on a Closed Street, Failing to keep left, Parking in a no parking area, Parking on a bus stop and Failure to have windows of transparent view (tinted windows). The police commend members of the public who continue to adhere to the traffic rules and regulations. Additionally, we wish to encourage members of the public to be alert to your surroundings and to obey all laws as police will continue with their efforts to make this Bahamas a safer place for all.

POLICE INVESTIGATES BOAT EXPLOSION

Police along with the local residents of Ragged Island are today continuing with their search efforts after a boat exploded off the Ragged Island Chain. The incident reportedly occurred sometime around 10:15 pm on Monday 27th June, 2011 some fifteen (15) miles off Bonavista Cay. According to police reports the sixty (60) ft. Bahamian owned vessel was on a fishing expedition when the incident occurred. Police are investigating and will keep the public updated as additional information regarding this incident becomes available.

POLICE INVESTIGATES TWO (2) RECENT MURDERS

Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating the person/s responsible for two recent, but separate Murders. The first incident reportedly occurred sometime around 11:20 pm on Sunday 26th June, 2011 at the rear of Gibson’s Liquor, Carmichael Road. On arrival to the scene police discovered the lifeless body of a male, believed to be in his early twenties (20), with gunshot injury to the upper body. At present the circumstances surrounding this incident is unknown.

The second incident occurred shortly before 1:00 am on Monday 27th June, 2011 at Allen Drive off Carmichael Road. According to police reports the victim was attending a party at Allen Drive, when it is reported that a fight broke out which resulted in the 16 year old being stabbed to the neck. Police are investigating and appealing to members of the public who may have any information regarding these incidents, or any other incidents to call police at 911, 919, CENTRAL DETECTIVE UNT at 502-9991, 502-9910, SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION at

THREE (3) MEN ARRESTED AFTER OFFICERS UNCOVER HANDGUN IN VEHICLE

Officers of the Mobile Division arrested three (3) males after a search of their vehicle revealed a handgun and ammunition. According to police reports, sometime around 9:00 pm on Sunday 26th June, 2011 officers of the Mobile Division were on routine patrol traveling west along Tonique Williams Darling when they observed a gold hatchback Honda Accord occupied by three adult males, acting suspiciously. The men ages, 27, 29 of Fox Hill and a 38 year old of Danottage Estates were taken into custody. Active police investigations continue.
