Here was another beautiful day in the raising story of Atlantis when another property was going up. It meant more jobs for Bahamian, more guests for the country and more hope for the future. Hubert Ingraham brought the Atlantis story to the Bahamas, but take a closer look at this photo and analyze what is wrong. Butch Kerzner, the heir apparent has since died in a tragic death. Members of the Christie government seen here are all now out of power in opposition, with Christie on political life support. And old pap Kerzner is now focused on his new property in Dubai.

Paradise Island, Bahamas: Bahamas Press has learned that operations at the world famous Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island is being crippled by the global economic collapse, and therefore the resort management has decided to let go 10% of its workforce. If this is correct as announced by management at the resort, some 1,000 persons will be out of work this week.

Bahamas Press has learned that some workers would be sent home today. Another resort on Cable Beach has already been advised by its Jamaican head office to begin termination rounds of its employees, many of whom are already struggling on two and three work days.

Atlantis however saw brighter days when Christie was in power. Who remembers the opening of the Cove when some 2,000 employees were added to the property at the end of Christie’s term? However there is a story of Atlantis that is not being told and it is how the city fell.

The story is told how over 11,000 years ago there existed an island nation located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean populated by a noble and powerful race. The people of this land possessed great wealth thanks to the natural resources found throughout their island. The island was a center for trade and commerce. The rulers of this land held sway over the people and land of their own island, which went well into Europe and Africa.

For generations the Atlanteans lived simple, virtuous lives. But slowly they began to change. Greed and power began to corrupt them. When Zeus saw the immorality of the Atlanteans he gathered the other gods to determine a suitable punishment.

Soon, in one violent surge it was gone. The sea swallowed the island of Atlantis, its people, and its memory. Can this story be a repeat of what is unfolding before our eyes at Atlantis Paradise Island? The book of Solomon says, “There is nothing new under the sun.” We shall see.

  1. Bp, I must agree with you…Many have already died….Yet this Wutless govt tried to blame the PLP and after that didn’t work, they put all the blame on the US. They still can’t see that they also had something to do with the SWIFT down turn in the economy!!

I hope that the PM was not just playing LIP SERVICE tonight…We need those projects, the ones that have not started as yet,to get started right away!!

  2. To all of you who suggest “This Economic Crisis” will pass I do agree, The Bahamas will survive this, but it is sad, Many Bahamians, many will not live to see the rise. Some today are loosing their minds, AND some everything else, and for many death will be their only way out!

    BP

  3. rb75 despite how difficult the situation seems all is not lost. God have continued to bless our nation and we have so much to be grateful for. We just need to be optimistic and believe that better days are ahead for our country.

  4. rb75 I have no doubt that we will survive this crisis even stronger than before. My only problem is that this present government is not the best to lead us through and beyond.

  5. Kim and wow the best days for our country still lies ahead of us …I do know in my heart that we will rise like the phoenix and live agin stronger and wiser we have a lot to thank God for in the Bahamas and we have a lot of work ahead of us as well….We are in a hard spot here right now and we must face them together.

This said we must begin the process of rebuilding and renewing of our country and the only way this can be done is by replaceing the current administration in office …..

Remember that old saying “that it is not the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog that matters.”

  6. Thanks Joe Blow you have just given me an idea. I agree it doesn’t have to be anything costly it could be just a kind gesture, like some cookies (like you suggested) or something simple but nice. This will definitely be a shocker to some of my friends, they are so used to me buying expensive and quality gifts, but everybody is fully aware of the state of the economy they should not expect so much this time around. Joe Blow I will keep it simple and whatever it is it will come straight from my heart. This holiday, I am taking it easy and I don’t want anyone to be stress out about what to get me. My main concern is just spending time together and letting people know what they mean to me.

  7. This saddens me because of what Atlantis means to the country as a whole and is a signal of the rough times ahead. At the same time I can’t help but smile at the irony. During the last election, high level executives, both native and foreign, warned the low level staff against voting for the PLP and threw out all sorts of empty threats and warnings about what would happen if the PLP returned to power. Sol was happy to have is “delivery boy” Ingraham back in power. Now with threats to his local Kerzner empire from crime, a dilapidated down town, bad roads, and a poor economy all watched over by a visionless and clueless FNM/Ingraham government, I wonder how he feels now about his delivery boy?

  8. Great idea Kim. We must all get back to the message “goodwill” towards our fellow man.Since you are a baker at ray of Christmas cookies will be much appreciated.

  9. More people on the unemployment line just before Christmas, I could imagine how devastated some of them must be. This is an eye opening experience for all of us and I hope we have learned a valuable lesson about saving for hard times, because you never know when it will hit. Last year this time I had already began my holiday shopping spree and home renovations. Last year monies were no object, this year it’s a completely different story. All my family, friends and church members know I love them very much, but this year I will have a stress free Christmas, because I will not be stressing myself with buying gifts. My main focus this year is to make sure all my bills are paid up to date and to spend some quality time with my family and friends.

  10. Butch Kerzner made valuable contributions to the growth of the Bahamian economy . Since the death of this “great visionary” Sun Atlantis and Sol Kerzner have never been the same. Butch Kerzner may he rest in peace, will always be remembered in the hearts of many Bahamians.

  11. I keep thinking about all those investments that were turned away. Surely some of those would have helped.

  12. We sure as hell better hope that it, “is not” or “will not” be the story of Atlantis. We will all be knowing at the U.S. door hoping for a hand-out from Obama to feed our sorry asses.
