This is the second incident in days…

De Havilland Dash 8 aircraft

Fort Lauderdale, Fl. – Some 30 passengers of a morning Bahamasair flight into New Providence from Fort Lauderdale again got the scare of their lives when the Dash 8 aircraft they were flying on lost one engine en route.

This is the second scare involving a Bahamasair aircraft in just over a week, and some passengers are wondering if it is indeed the same aircraft.

Just over a week ago a Dash 8 aircraft was coming inbound from Marsh Harbour connected at LPIA and heading to Freeport Grand Bahama when it also encountered engine problems and had to turn back to the capital less then 20 minutes into the flight.

No explanation for the engine shutdown was given.

This morning’s flight #142 returned safely to Fort Lauderdale International Airport with one engine out around 10:28am. All 30 souls were unharmed.

With the busy travel season upon us – when thousands of Bahamians will be using those Dash 8 planes for travel – we wonder how safe are the aircraft? Bahamas Press is asking when last has the Dash 8 fleet had an upgrade and maintenance done on them?

Are they being maintained? And we wonder if it is time to purchase a new fleet.

We report yinner decide!
