FT. PIERCE, FL: A Bahamian man will spend the rest of his life in jail for charges relating to drug, migrant smuggling and murder.

Rickey Thompson was this week sentenced to six life sentences plus a consecutive 32- year term of imprisonment for his participation in alien smuggling and narcotics trafficking conspiracies that resulted in the deaths of three migrants.

Thompson’s sentencing comes more than a year since his conviction by a jury last July following a three week trial before United States District Judge Daniel T. K. Hurley of three counts of second degree murder, three counts of alien smuggling resulting in death, 15 counts of alien smuggling placing the lives of migrants in jeopardy, six counts of narcotics trafficking, two counts of possession of firearms, and one count of illegal re-entry after deportation.

His six life sentences were for the second-degree murder and migrant smuggling resulting in death counts. The 32- year consecutive term of imprisonment was for using firearms during the commission of a crime of violence.

Thompson also received sentences between five and 20 years on the remaining migrant smuggling and narcotics trafficking counts. Thompson was ordered to pay a special assessment of $100 for each of the 30 counts of which he was convicted, for a total of $3,000.

According to the evidence presented at the sentencing hearing, Thompson and his co-defendant Leon Brice Johnson, formerly a resident of the Bahamas, who previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 22 years imprisonment, participated in two separate smuggling trips – one in August 2006, and a second in December 2006.

During each trip, Thompson, the boat captain, and Johnson, the co-captain, transported a group of illegal migrants and narcotics from Freeport, Bahamas, to Jupiter Island, aboard Thompson’s 33-foot speedboat. The migrants paid Thompson fees ranging from $1,500 to $4,000 for the trip and were assured that Thompson would drop them off on the beach or in water no higher than their knees.

  1. In life, there are no rewards or punishments …. you simply suffer the consequences of your actions.

  2. GeneralCrazy listen man, The real terrorist are those in power hiding under the political radar, victimizing citizens, corrupting and abusing various departments in government with personal hiring of family and friends into their Ministry(Housing, I have proof) to pimp for them.

  3. Obama, wat yer terrorist buddy sayin dese days, ayers is be all over tee vee now dred.

  4. Obama: you only could be joking, how could those dry eyes crooks represent anybody? They have their own allegations to deal with.

If there is any truth to the scandal originally spread by the wutless Tribune about a PLP minister who have defrauded a large sum of monies from the government. They need to jail that minister and the government need to make him cough up that money so it could go toward helping the unemployed.

The other minister from the FNM who been down in Freeport whining and doing his hand motion like a woman. He needs to pay the monies he defrauded from the government by not making National Insurance Contribution for his employee. That same thieving hand he was showing people, the government needs to put in handcuff and put the money into NIB that is currently struggling to assist with society problems.

  5. I demand we negotiate a prisoner’s exchange program for this man. My proposal is the thieving former PLP Cabinet Minister for Thompson and A FNM “tax ducking” Cabinet Minister for his accomplice.
