Nassau, Bahamas — A Bahamian police officer has been remanded in Fox Hill Prison for the rape of an American woman.

Bahamas Press has learned corporal, Anthony Nyahuma Bastian, was on his police job when The United States Department of Justice listed him as one of the Top 10 most wanted sex offenders in the US.

Having such a slack WUTLESS culture in the Bahamas are told Bastian was still on his police job when he was arrested early Friday morning.

The 34-year-old is wanted by US Marshals to stand trial for the rape of a student in Texas. The incident is alleged to have happened back in 2001.

According to source in the Federal Office Bastian was a student at the University of North Texas when the incident occurred. While there it is alleged he ambushed, brutally beat and then raped a female student who was also attending the university. To evade justice Bastian fled the US and returned home and guess what? He signed on The Royal Bahamas Police Force in 2001 and was accepted.

During his hearing yesterday, Bastian’s lawyer, Devard Francis, pleaded with Magistrate Rodger Gomez to grant his client bail advising the court that Bastian was not seeking to evade justice in the US as he has appeared in a US court on the matter on several occasions. It was noted to the court Bastian could not travel to the court in the US after his visa in the US was cancelled and therefore, he failed to appear for his trial.

BP reminds readers how amazingly, Mother Pratt has been accused of hiring such rogue cops, but we understand in this case the rogue officer, WITH AN INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL RECORD, joined under the first Ingraham government in 2001 and was allowed to work just hours before his arrest.

Bastian also carried a firearm while on duty and was considered by some to be decent lawman. How Bastian got on the RBPF is the $20 million question and how he was allowed to stay on the Force carrying a conviction for rape is a serious thing.

Could you imagine that; the criminals looking for criminals?

Magistrate Gomez remanded Bastian to prison until the date of his hearing for extradition.

  1. B p you are so full of it. You have atleast 2 people on this page that are telling you they know this individual and that he joined the force in 2003. Why can’t you be honest and accept reality. I was told by a STAUNCH PLP in the Summer of 2007 that he was very upset with the administration in power 2002-2007 because they hired so many with Serious CRIMINAL records to work on the Force and the orders to do so he said came from the VERY TOP

  2. To those who is seeking to make this a political issue and BP, for clarification, Bastian joined the RBPF in 2003-2004 which was under the Christie administration. If powers that be within the force knew about the past of now-ex-officer Bastian they should be dealt with i urge BP to advocate for a thorough investigation into this matter and the results be made public, because we can not have law men on our streets who are suppose to protect us, as criminals themselves.

  3. THTAS WHY PEIPLE WHO HAVE THE QUALIFICAIONS CAN NOT GET ON THE JOB CAN NOT GET ON BECAUSE THESE PEOPLEARE LOOKING OUT FOR THERE FAMILIES

  4. Hopefully someone from the Police will speak and advise the public on the circumstances under which the arrest was made. The aallegation occured in 2001 so I guess thats why PAPA and his band of merrymen are so silent.Asst COP McCartney was in charge of training so he should answer as well.

  5. HEY HIS AUNT WORKS AT THE POLICE COLLEGE IN ADMINISTRATION AND HE JOINED IN 2003 HOW FUNNY

  6. HOW DID THE 10th MOST WANTED SEXUAL OFFENDER OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN GET BACK IN THE BAHAMAS AND EMPLOYED ON THE ROYAL BAHAMAS POLICE FORCE?

Questions which must be answered. Bastian was arrested in the US:

    1) How did he get out of the jurisdiction?

    2) who oversaw he vetting process for the RBPF?

    3) Who assigned him as an undercover cop and refused to do a background check?

    4) Was the Police Force aware of his case in the US?

    5) IF YES, why was Bastian NOT placed on leave pending the outcome of his rape case in the US?

6)Who on the RBPF protected this boy and who is he related to on the FORCE?

    7) Is Bastian, who was arrested on the job yesterday, still employed by the Bahamas Government and the constitutional protectors of the STATE; RBPF?

Someone from the RBPF should be speaking to the Press on this matter URGENTLY before BP must take the bold step and begin answering these question for the public..
