NASSAU, Bahamas – The Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation’s 12-week business empowerment lecture series gets underway February 7 at the College of The Bahamas.

Author and financial planner Glenn Ferguson will speak on ‘Empowering Bahamians – Global and Domestic Perspectives’ during the opening session at 7pm at the Lecture Theatre of the College’s Culinary and Hospitality Management Centre, Thompson Boulevard.

Held in conjunction with the College’s School of Business, the series has been well received by established and budding business persons.

BAIC’s Business Services Department assistant manager Lester Stuart said, “We want to sensitize Bahamians to the many business opportunities available to them now.

“We want to encourage them to exploit these opportunities, and empower themselves to become self employed.”

Topics to be covered include business plan development, government regulations, customer service, e-commerce, accounting, security, linking business with the tourism sector and testimonials from successful businesspersons.

“We want to provide potential business persons with an opportunity to be exposed to proven successful business strategies, best practices and real life business experiences,” said Mr. Stuart.

BAIC is aware of the important role small and medium-sized businesses play in the economy of the Bahamas, especially as they relate to job creation, said Mr. Stuart.

“We therefore remain committed to assisting them in their development,” he added.

A highlight of the series will be a round-table discussion with bankers as entrepreneurs seek to strengthen linkages with financial institutions, with a view to mitigating the process for securing necessary funding.

“This series will especially enhance the capacity of business persons to benefit from the many investment projects throughout The Bahamas,” said Mr. Stuart.
