Nassau, Bahamas – At approximately 2:30pm on Sunday, BEC made the following statement on their Facebook page:
“BPL is presently experiencing a shutdown of its generation, transmission and distribution networks in New Providence.
An initial assessment is underway to determine the cause of the failure and to begin repairs/restoration as soon as possible.”
On other social media page, there were reports of an island-wide outage.
Just before 3pm, BEC posted this message:
“BEC/ BPL has started restoring supply in New Providence following the islandwide outage earlier Sunday afternoon.
“BEC/ BPL is in the process of restarting engines and restoring supply to impacted customers. 25% of customers have had their supply so far.
“Crews will continue to work throughout the afternoon until restoration is complete.”
