  1. @ Bamboo Town Resident
Where were you when the PLP elected MP for Kennedy resigned from the PLP and joined the FNM. I can’t recall your clamoring for a bye-election then. Perhaps you were out of the country at the time or busy celebrating the PLP’s misfortune and considering that the majority of voters in Kennedy didn’t vote for the FNM but they are “represented” by one in the parliment.

  2. What I wouldl like to know is if a M.P.resigns from the political party with whom he won the seat does he still represent the majority of the residents in that particular area? If not shouldn’t the seat be vacant and a bi-election held to determine if the majority of the constituents still support the M.P.

  3. US AS FNMs DONT NEED BRANVILLE IT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE HIS YOUR POLITICAL CAREER TRUST ME NOW ALL WE WILL DO IS PUT SOME ONE THERE IN THAT SEAT AN BEAT HIS PANTS OFF HE IS JUST ANOTHER ONE OF THOSE CONFUSE ONES.

  4. GO! GO!! GO!!! BAMBOO TOWN 2012 VICTORY BEYOND THE FAR HORIZON…………MR. MCCARTNEY FOR THE PEOPLE, MR.MCCARTNEY FOR THE PLP!!!!! OH HAPPY DAYS ARE COMMING

  5. Branville’ resignation represents a major setback to the campaign strategy of 2012, during which the FNM wants to make a strong case that they are the party for the young, educated, successful, “family values” oriented Bahamian. The most out spoken operative of the party, Calvin Farquharson, has been on radio talk shows pleading with Branville to remain with the party because his presence is key to the success of the strategy. He has become the poster child of this message and it is common knowledge that most females think it helps the case by him being easy on the eyes.

HE CANNOT FIT INTO THE PLP BECAUSE THEY HAVE A “PECKING ORDER” THAT TAKES NO ACCOUNT OF SUCH ATTRIBUTES. THE IDEAL OUTCOME FOR HIM IN 2012 IS TO MAKE AN ARRANGEMENT WITH THE PLP (JUST LIKE WELLS BEFORE HIM DID) TO BE UNOPPOSED BY THEM. WHILE THE FNJM WILL CAMPAIGN “HARD” AGAINST HIM ON THE GROUND, IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT ON A NATIONAL STAGE THEY WILL DO THE SAME. THE “BLOW BACK” WOULD BE TOO STRONG TO JUSTIFY OPPOSING SOMEONE AS “PRINCIPLED” AS HIM, AND SOMEONE AS “EFFECTIVE” IN HIS JOB (EVEN IF THE MEDIA IMAGE BECAME THE PUBLICLY ACCEPTED REALITY) AS HIM. THE FNM WILL PROBABLY SEND SOME LAMB TO THE SLAUGHTER IN BAMBOO TOWN. REMEMBER, EVERYTHING IS RELATIVE, AND WITH THE CURRENT CROP OF FNM MPs NOT SHOWING A “SPINE” IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO LAND BLOWS ON BRAN. WHAT WILL THEY SAY OTHER THAN HE IS AMBITIOUS. SO WHAT? MORE BAHAMIANS NEED TO BE THEN WE WON’T HAVE TO BE PERSUADED TO THROW OUT THESE “WUTLESS” PLPs AND FNMs WHO DO NOTHING TO FACILITATE THE AMBITIOUS BAHAMIAN (LAWS, CONCESSIONS, LAND GRANTS, ETC.)AND EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWERS TO ADVANCE “OTHERS”.

WE NEED TO ADDRESS THESE POLITICAL HACKS (LIKE ALTEC) WHOSE ONLY DESIRE IS TO GET THE PLP ELECTED. ALTEC HAS NEVER SEEN A PLP CANDIDATE THAT HE DOESN’T THINK SHOULD WIN IN AN ELECTION OVER AN FNM CANDIDATE. YES, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE. DON’T BELIEVE ME – ASK HIM. THIS “IDIOT” REPRESENTS “THE EPITOME OF STUPIDITY” BECAUSE HE WOULD RATHER SEE ANOTHER FOOL IN THE PARLIAMENT, JUST BECAUSE HE IS PLP, OVER SOMEONE WHO HAS IDEAS, ENERGY AND A SINCERE COMMITMENT TO MOVE THIS COUNTRY FORWARD, BUT IS FNM. THE SADDEST PART IS THAT ALTEC AND ALL THE OTHER ALTECS OUT THERE THINK THEMSELVES TO BE “SMART”.

MY ADVICE TO YOU IS WHENEVER YOU READ A POST IN WHICH INFORMATION IS PRESENTED AS “FACTS” ASK YOURSELF THE QUESTIONS THAT REPUTABLE JOURNALISTS THE WORLD OVER PUT TO THEMSELVES BEFORE THEY EMBRACE AND PRINT STORIES. ASK YOURSELF, “WHO IS THE SOURCE” AND IF IT COMES OUT AS ALTEC, OR ONE OF THE MANY OTHER ALTECS THAT FREQUESNT THIS SITE (FROM BOTH SIDES), WELL THEN… LET COMMON SENSE PREVAIL IN YOU AND REPUDIATE THEM USING THE STRONGEST LANGUAGE PERMISSIBLE.

  6. Here is a man that made his best decision which was to vote his conscience … Had Mr.McCartney voted against the sale of BTC as a FNM MP, the party would then call for his resignation and say … “it’s the honorable thing to do” the people of Bamboo Town hold a great respect for this man, and will support him. The mindless FNM’s that require the party to tell them what to think and say will continue to do so even though their mad leader is hell bent on causing this entire nation to “Suck Sorrows”

This Nation now more than ever need Men … Men who are true to duty … as the needle to the pole, … Men who see pain and try to heal it, men who see wrong and try to right it … men who stand for RIGHT … even if the heavens fall.

Branville Mc Cartney, THe nation will show it’s appreciation to you because your principles and your commitment to your PEOPLE far surpass selfish pride and ego. God bless my Friend

  7. So Bran has finally discovered what a 13 year old mentally challenged student said when identifying a picture of HAI at MOE headquarter “He’s mean and he say things.” He chose this day who he would serve. Oh but it’s the people’s interest. Bad, bad Bran!

  8. Now what will we do in Bamboo Town, the last Independent Candidate did not work out, so why does Bran think he’ll work out. Bamboo Town Constituency has been an FNM subdivision for many years now. So Bamboo Town need to now ask the question, “What can Independent do for us?” Mr. Wells didn’t have the answer either, and further more Mr. McCartney should have consulted with the Bamboo Town Community before he decided to resign, cause surely he consulted before he was elected. But either way Mr. McCartney better hope that the PLP rejects Bamboo Town in the next election, that’ll be the only way he’ll win. Surely Sir resigning does not show balls it show that you have no respect for leadership………

    • how could you say bran have no respect for leadership, you crazy, how you could expect him to sit there and take foolishness from that bully called ingraham, any person of intelligence would want to leave that situation

  9. FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
In 1927 Stalin succeeded in defeating the entire opposition and in eliminating its leaders from the party. He then adopted much of its domestic program by starting a five-year plan of industrial development and by executing it with a degree of recklessness that angered many of his former supporters, who then formed an opposition to him. This opposition, too, was defeated quickly, and by the early 1930s Stalin had gained dictatorial (total) control over the party, the state, and the entire Communist International.

  10. Way to go Bran…finally we know that someone chosen by Ingrum has balls!! History will record you as a man true to yourself and true to yuor country. Let the other spineless eunichs sunk on that boat by themselves. History will not be kind to them as they are clearly prepared to sell their birthrights for a bowl of porridge.

  11. While I appreciate that Mr. McCartney made a choice of conscious, I can’t say that his was a decision worthy of heroism. If he truly believed in his position, the uncowardly thing to do would have been to stand, even if he had to stand alone. If the party then wanted to punish him for his stand, as has been done many times before, under the Pindling Administration, then so be it; but to dovetail and run speaks volume of his abilty to stand against all odds and instead proves that he is one who “when the going gets tough, the ‘tough’ get’s going”. My understanding of those who have stood alone and on their conscious, to represent the people, stood despite the noise in the market, as was the case with Mr. Christie, Mr. Ingraham and of recent, Mr. Dupuch and Mr. Turnquest…none of those “real men” left their party, though thier opinions differed from that of the majority in their party. Notably, there we all expelled and/or suspended from their parties, and went on to be figures to be revered by the parties they were cast from. Mr. McCartney on the other hand totally destroyed his creditability and his serious contention for leadership of any party, in this Bahamas….ALONE, HE IS DONE!

  12. The posts above are all very thoughtful. In the Westminster system of Government which by and large we in The Bagamas follow, resignations are really fuelled by points of principles and by lack of confidence in the leadership. Bran has shown that he is concerned about both. When he resigned as Minister of State it was undoubtedly a point of principle; he was disgusted over the way the country’s immigration policy was being directed and hijacked by the Cabinet (HAI). His resignation from the FNM Party over the BTC issue is about confidence in the leadership of the FNM. A leader must respect the winds of opinion, especially on something as fundamental as this one and clearly the handling of this and other and past events by the PM has caused him to lose confidence in his leadership. Bran has shown courage, and even if his political career comes to an end (although I doubt it will)it is not the end of the world – he will be able to sleep better and face himself in the mirror. That is a real man. He has said “Enough is Enough” and took a real stand. No one in his right mind would countenance the sale of BTC in the manner in which it is being done.

  13. I think Bran is acting foolishly and being very petty, his resignation cannot be compared to Hubert’s resignation from the PLP…….it can’t be because the FNM wants to privatize BTC – the PLP did as well. Privitizing BTC was a part of the FNM’s camaign agenda…..which we all were quite aware of!

Bran has lost my support – he must be prepared to be honest with himself…….it’s not the BTC issue…he wants to be leader and Prime Minister…it’s all about him – now acting like a rude child kicking and fussing because he can’t get his way or like a sweetheart who crashes a party at the husband’s house!
He will soon find out that he’s not really all that….Ken’s departure from the PLP caused more “stir” than his departure from the FNM.

    • Now why you don’t leave Ken outta this, cause you know yall gat something coming for him also.

      BP

  14. It is obvious that H. Ingraham didn’t want to mar his reputation by FIRING Bran McCartney…so a short respectful resignation seems to have been the compromise…although Bran remains intact with dignity and track record…Ingraham has accomplished his ulterior plan to black ball and remove him without tarnish to him politically…another suave, slick underhanded move on the part of H. Ingraham and a GREAT LOSS FOR THE FNM AND BAHAMIANS! ALL THE WAY BRAN…GO FOR THE BLUE AND GOLD!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 Certainly…Uncertain.

  15. i wish you had done this from you resigned as a cabinet minister but better late than never , you are truly a man of great integrity i say your constituents are luck to have you continue to stand for what is right all others you have left behind should feel less than a man but we all know that they are all there for personal gain. God will guide you continue to do what is right in his sight and you will be around serving this bahamas for a long time

  16. The BIBLE and CONSTITUTION affords Branville McCartney the right to resign from the FNM. The Constitution allows him to support a political party, leave that party, join another party or have none at all. The Bible says “LET EACH BE FULLY PERSUADED IN HIS OWN MIND”. I SUPPORT the FNM and thats my RIGHT and if Branville wants to leave the FNM it is HIS RIGHT!For those consumed with POLITICAL PUNDITRY, I assume this is a pivotal time to engage in political debate and analysis. At the end of the day, this is a simple case of Branville McCartney exercising HIS GOD GIVEN AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS as a matter of PERSONAL CHOICE.

  17. This is the second time im posting on this website although I must submit that I am an avid reader. As a young person under 23, im of the opinion that what Bran did is in a way inspiring. For the life of me I dont understand how any MP in both parties could honestly be in agreement with everything that their leader does. If u dont agree, i prefer you come out and be a MAN and say it, as oppose 2 lying to the public. At the end of the day you represent the ppl who elected you, NOT YOUR PARTY OR THE LEADER.
If persons believe that the gutter politics of the past is going to prevail in years to come they are totally misled. Mr Mac brings a new, refreshing style to politics in my view. Some may say he is only interested in PR, but it is nice to see someone who isnt going to simply go along with the party. In the US there are democrats who oppose some of Obamas policies..but that doesnt mean they are not Democrats…we need to grow up and be more mature with our national debates.

I was amazed that the PM would assert that becaz the manifesto said that BTC would be privatized, and MPs who ran agreed to that manifesto they MUST vote yes!! While they may all want to have BTC privatized, that doesnt necessarily imply that they MUST agree to the present deal or even to sell to Cable n Wireless for that matter. I think that the PM insulted our intelligence by making such a statement. I guess once we vote…we have no more say, if thats the case then plz MP’s…refrain from saying at the beginning of your contributions, “I rise on behalf of the ppl”…bcaz really n truly…you rise on behalf of your party and your leader

    • I am inspired by your contribution. Well stated and I completely agree with you.

The distinction must be made though between disagreeing with one’s Leader on a single point(s) and losing confidence in that Leader.

Clearly when you disagree with a point then resignation may be premature and unnecessary. If however you lose confidence in that Leader’s ability, then you are duty-bound to resign.

Based on things Mr. McCartney has said over the past year or so, he clearly lost confidence in Ingraham’s ability and in my opinion he did the honourable thing.

  18. Homeboy resigned without voting? And ppl think this means he has backbone??? HA! If he had backbone and was so much against the sale of BTYC he would have voted NO and then resigned, not act like a little spineless puppy running from conflict.

    COME ON MAN!!!!

  19. PLEASE Resigning DOES NOT SHOW BACKBONE it actually shows he can’t stand the heat..I am apart of an organization and I WILL NOT LEAVE When I have to make hard decision. I will STAND in the ORGANIZATION and voice my disapproval and endure the the heat and show that I am able to be APART and still have MOUTH that represents my constituency.
THE BAHAMAS is NOT the WORLD we are APART of the WORLD and we DID NOT LEAVE the UN when we did not support some of the RESOLUTIONS they presented. WE VOTED NO to some of the propositions.

LAME EXCUSE For showing BACKBONE @HOUND FROM HELL!

STAND UP IN THE GROUP AND YOU SHOW THAT YOU ARE MAN ENOUGH TO STAY AND ENDURE THE HEAT!

    • Perhaps his personal convictions are not just relative to the proposed sale, but reflect a parting of ideological ways with the FNM. That being said, he would have done the right thing.

Funny how, this FNM MP is painted coward, however, when spinless Kenyatta Gibson crossed the floor, this was hailed as a brave move on the part of the MP. Politics is yall all!

PM Ingrahams comments were threats, and Bran seems like me, we dont take kindly to threats. THe BTC sale is not about towing the party line, but securing the future for Bahamians.

  20. Their’s only one comment I wish to make about this story, if true Bran need to choose which Party he will associate, because delay at this time in our political history could mean political suicide, I submit Bran needs to come home to the PLP, his future will be great and many I believe will respect him. I am reminded during 2006 when a political giant the former representative for Marathon, when at his rally at R M Bailey was seen as that turning point, but he did not capitalize and eventually suffered defeat at the polls and could not rejoin his original party because it’s leader who is a dictator saw him as a threat.

  21. Well at least history will record that he has back-bone, and refused to drink Ingraham’s rum. He has made the remaining FNM M.P.s look bad because there are three more there who oppose the BTC giveaway but fear Ingraham. Stand up men!!! You can remove the mill-stone from your necks by voting against the deal.

  22. You know something, I really used to respect Branville back in the day. Mind you, he wasn’t doing anything extraordinary, but he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders. But, he has changed. He’s now arrogant, obnoxious and disrespectful to the people who came before him. God knows Ingraham makes me sick sometimes – he too is rude and doesn’t know how to speak to people, but at least Ingraham paid his dues. What dues have Branville paid? He’s a neophyte politician who couldn’t even make it through a full term as a junior minister. I can’t respect that. Ingraham has dogged out many people, that’s not to say people should stand for it, but dammit stand up to him, hold your ground and look at the big picture. It’s called thickening ya skin.

The lousy PLP, I’m sure, will try to swoop him up. Branville, Kenyatta and Malcolm Adderley needs to form their own party. “The Sitting Down On Do Nothing Seat Party”

  23. NOT A Big surprise! The Bahamian people understand his position which MAY be that of BAMBOO Town..
REMEMBER That seat has a curse…per se. Every MP That resigns and goes independent usually gets retired by the PEOPLE!

Thanks BRAN you had a great POLITICAL FUTURE in the FNM and that is not to say you are NOT WELCOME BACK!

  24. What a dumb***. I’m glad he’s gone. What a waste of space. Ingraham those are better off without this egotistical moron. He can’t seem to decide what he wants to do. Here’s a tip, Mr. McCartney, you are not going to become PM as an independent and if you join the PLP, you damn sure won’t become PM…too many people to crawl over. Good riddance.
