Trouble is brewing in the PLP’s NPI and democracy is in question in the organization – WHAT IN THE HELL IS DIS?
Nassau, Bahamas — The victory of knowledge over ignorance was clearly demonstrated this evening when NPI Member, Ms. Lisa La Fleur- Major, gave basic lessons in Parliamentary Procedure to Latore Mackey, the embattled Chairman of NPI, who is being charged with employing un-demoncratic tactics to retain the post, after the majority of NPI Members had resigned in protest of Mackey’s narcissistic leadership last year.
The determined remaining NPI members declared that ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH! No longer would the usual delaying tactics of ensuring the absence of the NPI Secretary, incomplete Current Financial Membership List, nor the inarticulate filabustering of Latore Mackey be tolerated. NO SIREE BOB!!! The motion to elect Ms. Cassandra Wilson to head the Audit Committee was put and seconded. However, true to his usual form, Mackey began stating a series of objections as to why he thought that an Audit Committee appointment should not proceed at last night’s NPI meeting.
Well versed in the rules of Parliamentary procedure, Ms. LaFleur Major stood her ground, insisting that no new motions may be entertained until a vote had been taken for the appointees to the Audit Committee, established during the previous NPI monthly meeting and which was moved and seconded, in accordance with the rules.
Well, all hell broke out in the minutes which followed Latore Mackey’s refusal to proceed with the voting. Having produced a Members List which totally ignored many members who had paid their dues into the following year, the shameless exposed chairman then questioned who could prove that they were currently financial – the proverbial straw that ‘broke the camel’s back! .
With all the overtones of a TV Reality show, the NPI Members began shouting “LATORE GATTA GO! LATORE GATTA GO! Unashamed by this open display of disrespect for his obvious ignorance of the rules governing formal business meetings, the embattled chairman called for a 10 minute recess.
Grossly outnumbered at last night’s NPI sitting, Mackey’s contingent of FNM attendees had not re-appeared since their coup de etat in April, when they had paid a nominal fee to join NPI, merely to vote for their friend and colleague from the Free National Movement, Latore Mackey.
Mackey conceded the defeat of his plan to prevent the Forensic Audit of NPI’s finances during his stewardship and abandoned his plan to appoint an Executive Board of NPI members, whose majority would always outnumber the will of the membership, as he had done during his previous tenure.
Now faced with an overwhelming majority of knowledgeable members of the PLP whose ardent desire to restore NPI to its former glory was clearly displayed, the silence was deafening as the NPI Chairman stood motionless and silent at the podium, until an altercation of heated words between a supporter of Mackey and a PLP Party Stalwart nearly came to blows. With tones parallel to a Ms. Lundy tirade, the irate female long time PLP – member continued to ask the Mackey supporter: “Who the hell is you and when did you join the PLP?
The meeting ended abruptly.
