British fugitive Shane Ian Murphy held in The Bahamas on fake ID and money laundering charges

NASSAU- A British fugitive has been arrested in The Bahamas, where he was living under a false identity.

Shane Ian Murphy allegedly obtained fake Bahamian documents in the name of Shane Harrington after fleeing Cambridge in 2019.

Murphy was sentenced to four years and four months in prison after he admitted to abusing his wife.

He broke her leg while she was pregnant, called her names and locked her in rooms, knowing that she was afraid of confined spaces.

Murphy was released on licence halfway through his sentence. Murphy has been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of his release.

Local prosecutors say that the wanted 45-year-old man fraudulently Bahamian IDs under his false name after coming here.

Murphy is accused of obtaining a Bahamian passport, National Insurance Board smart card, voter’s card Bahamian driver’s license under his false name by using a forged Bahamian birth certificate.

Murphy is also accused of laundering €398,000, between 2019 and 2020.

Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis has remanded Murphy to prison, pending his trial in October.
