KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, Grand Bahama Council, are joined by parishioners of Mary, Star of the Sea Parish for the recent unveiling and blessing of a new church sign. Monsignor Ambrose MacKinnon, Pastor, did the honours following a Corporate Mass commemorating Columbus Day. As a part of the activities, the Knights staged a march to the parish from the Ranfurly Circus, and on the actual day sponsored a Family Fun Day for parishioners at the Williams Town Beach. COLUMBUS DAY MARCH. Members of Knights of Columbus Council 10647 begin their march to the 9:00 am service at Mary, Star of the Sea Parish marking the annual commemoration of Columbus Day. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal service organization named for the voyager, Christopher Columbus. The first Columbus Day celebration was held in 1792, when New York City, USA, celebrated the 300th anniversary of his landing in the New World. Knights of Columbus in The Bahamas have been marking the occasion since the 500th Anniversary of Columbus’ landing in 1992 when Councils were first established in The Bahamas. PHOTO BY GRECHRIS.
